#391 Re: Guns N' Roses » When will we hear more vault material? » 299 weeks ago

To me it feels like those Oh my God, Silkworms, Going Down leaks and this much bigger leaker either sets up the release of the next album or is closure. The big difference is in 2000 they playing leaked songs. Even Better. Now they aren’t working Hardschool out on stage. I mean this could have been the Terminator movie.

The problem is that Bucket, Finch etc aren’t there anymore, so all these are more like old demos, ideas that are only possibly in the mix for whatever Slash and Duff are cooking up. I kind of hope that there’s a finished CD II but it seems unlikely at this point.

I get these leaks aren’t what they want to put out as an artistic statement but it is kind of closure of the CD era. So it’s not a negative. I don’t think casual fans or fans that never cared about new Guns are really going to be affected by these leaks?I doubt they are playing Crash Diet on a loop or even knew Shadow was an older song. Touring wise it’s all about the hits. I doubt the fans will stop going to shows because some old Bucket demos leaked.

Any update on Down by the Ocean or any of the Izzy songs Axl got?

He asked them for either 2001 or 2000.

Axl only ever confirmed that Down by the Ocean was a title of an Izzy track, he never said if the tracks ever got used. If they were, they were probably used post these rough mix sessions.

Izzy was saying Axl 3-4 of his songs but didn’t know what would happen to them. Izzy is basically a song writing machine, different from Axl in a way because he plays more guitar and can do vocal melodies. Anyway those 3 or 4 songs could be the missing piece to the next album. With them playing Locomotive you can see why Izzy isn’t touring. The whole thing is much bigger. But for an album to get a couple of Izzy nuggets like DTJ and a Time Gone By.

We don’t necessarily have life left but that is kind of irrelevant to artistic rights.

I’ve bin thinking that if it was that they were about to release this stuff wouldn’t lawyers and rec comp be involved? So it seems more personal or something. But it seems like good promo. However maybe they are playing Locomotive instead of anew track because of the leaks. Maybe the issue is when stuff leaks rec comp loses interest and then they have to do something new.

I could see Soul Monster as like Estranged, a grower that might not be the hit single but 10 years later fans are pleading to hear it live. It is like a darker more haunting Estranged. It has the dolphin guitar and piano breaks. Atlas seems more like the hit ballad. Hardschool or Berlin are great rockers. State of Grace is a cool Bowie pop rock moment before they go epic with Perhaps, Quick Song, Zodiac, Soul Monster.

So Beltrami worked on Madagascar, SOD, Twat, Prostitute, TIL? And Seven, Soul Monster, The General, Thyme?

It doesn't take much to add up to an album.

I don't see it happening, fuck, I HOPE it won't happen that way.
Taking old leftovers and songs that didn't make the cut 30 years ago and use them today (cough shadow cough) ?

I don’t see GNR songs like that, especially songs with vocals. Nov Rain was started in Indiana or something. There’s songs on UYI from AFD era. Everything seems to come out 10 years after they were written. At this point if they worked on some AFD era demo that would be fine. And Axl constructing these epic cathedral songs seems to take 10 years.

But are there any long “epic” songs in this batch of leaks I’m not remembering? Nothing like Coma or Estranged length.

Elvis, Zodiac, Atlas, Perhaps, Quick Song and Rebel are all pretty big.
Elvis has something of that lilting dolphin Estranged thing.

Do you think the song got renamed after Frank added drums?
