All I know is that Axl/Slash/Duff were unable to create new songs without Izzy. He was just as important as anyone else.

Slash wanted to throw away the Sweet Child riff. Izzy is the one who thought it was worth turning into a song.
Slash described the writing of Paradise City in a similar way. They were in a van when Slash played the main riff. Izzy and Duff (not just Duff) started playing along when Axl sang the chorus and it went from there.
Izzy is not overrated, it's the other way around. Likewise with Duff. All of them added important elements to each song. Adler is underrated in that regard because you can tell a huge difference (in a bad way) on Illusion records without him.

It's not GN'R without Izzy. That is not an attempt to downplay the other members. It isn't GN'R without them either. The band was a great mix of different sub-genres in rock and roll. Each of them brought something important to the table, even Adler.

You can call it negative I guess, but the guy did say Appetite is the best rock album ever. I don't blame him for taking a cynical approach.

That Tweet was classic Axl, haha. I like the fact Duff re-Tweeted it. Very likely that he is the reason for the reunion more than anything else. Fuck the rest of the world trying to take credit.

Speaking as someone who never got to see them in my youth, I'll happily go and see this line-up. Because I'm not reliving my fucking youth, I'm creating new and exciting memories.
I wasn't even 2 years old when Appetite came out, so I never saw them either. I am against a reunion simply because they don't need to shit on their legacy together. It's bad enough that Axl actually toured and released music under the GN'R name without everyone else, but there was something legendary about how GN'R exploded onto the scene and then completely imploded in a short period of time.
The only thing I hope that comes out of this is a release of studio material with Axl's voice. He has wasted his talent for a long time.

I think the above article is kinda missing his own point.
This has nothing to do with GN'R selling out or cashing in.
It has to do with the industry putting a lack of faith or financial investment into the rock scene, and so they put it into brand names, because it's stretched thin, no different than the movie/TV industry.
They NEED brand names to make a profit. It's just smart business. And none are bigger in rock than a Guns N' Roses reunion.

You're not wrong. It just seems that GN'R was the definition of a youth band, kinda like the Sex Pistols. It's amazing that the GN'R guys are still alive, but it's also very strange and something will not feel right about watching them onstage in their 50's. And something stinks very much knowing that you pay $250-300 to watch them now when you could have paid 5-$10 to watch them in their absolute prime.

They are a loud bunch though. Go to any reunion article and it seems the Adler or Bust crowd is all over it. Hell, Izzy doesn't even get as much push as he should. Maybe it's because he stays completely out of the spotlight while Adler is always running his mouth, so I guess that is why he gets that support.
Strange though to see so many people think Adler is such a "nice" guy. Woman beater who sued his former bandmates and has repeatedly thrown them under the bus, including about 6 months ago in the case of Slash/Duff. So fucked up on drugs he couldn't even do basic drum tracks in the studio, while the other heroin and booze guys were kicking ass on their UYI parts. I just don't get the sympathy, especially given the fact this dude has received 15-20% of the royalties on Appetite.

I'm in that other 1% club. Whatever Axl puts his name to. Though I also recognize that the original GN'R died in 89. Adler brought important groove.
Doesn't mean I want to hear it again given the circumstances. In a lot of ways that image of the 80s band is best left untainted, can only be tarnished now.
Yes, even if you get them back together it will never be the same. Anyone hoping for the Appetite reunion actually needs a time machine more than the reunion of a bunch of 50+ year olds who are way past their prime.
