definitely some new wrinkles after the breakdown...

#5942 Re: Guns N' Roses » Just How Long has Paul Huge been around GnR? » 912 weeks ago

Sounds good...I just thought if they wrote that one song together that he must have been around in some small capacity. I know he really had nothing to do with the creation of AFD and UYI. I wasn't arguing that he somehow was a part of the Gnr original band legacy.:peace:

and on 3rd and 4th listen, Finck's solo is pretty damn good....it matches the lyrics, simple and soulful.

This I Love is easily Axl at his most vulnerable. I think it is beautiful and actually don't mind Finck's solo now that the irritating AIM noises are gone. The lyrics are very simple, plain, and honest. In a world of fake bullshit, he really means what he is saying and you can tell....or at least he meant it in 1993! 16

#5945 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chinese Democracy official reviews thread » 913 weeks ago

One thing I will say that disappoints me about the reviews is that it seems that no one has caught on to how overtly fragile Axl is and how overtly open his lyrics are about his broken relationships. He veers from cocksure, to doubting, to lonely, to utterly broken hearted and vulnerable. He did this before but not on this level. Now, that is probably due to not having Izzy as a partner to offset Axl's way of writing. There is nothing loose and fanciful on this record.

As a comparison, Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks is known as the number one heartbreak, lovesick album  over the last 30 years. This sounds crazy, but Axl's album is very very similar in it's overall theme. Actually, I am suprised that someone like David Fricke from Rolling Stone did not pick up on it. Whatever...I am rambling.

I agree with you a large majority of the time...

Maybe you do need to break out that list because besides "Anything Goes" and "Think About You" I can't see CD topping AFD.

your posts scare me....my two least favorite tracks off afd are those two songs. However, AFD is one of the best hard rock albums of all time. No question. Chinese is only comparable to UYI. It stands up nicely with those two albums.

I'm up for action if it's out there.....:mosh:

#5949 Re: Guns N' Roses » BETTER: second single CONFIRMED » 913 weeks ago

The problem with This I Love is that it is just very direct for today's radio. It is piano, orchestra and Axl for 3 minutes...most people would have changed the channel by the time Axl made it to the other instruments coming in. The ballad will be a tough choice. I don't have the answer.

what trick?.....CD was doing pretty well. I agree that Better needs to go to radio. I'm thinking Chinese Democracy was thrown out there because of the name and the fact that it has a little edge. Releasing Better now is a perfect move. It is clearly the most radio friendly track. But, then again, I am not a target audience consumer so I may be way off!:peace:
