#51 Re: Guns N' Roses » Shackler's-When was it written? » 64 weeks ago

Instrumentally we know it's earliest form originates from 2000. But what about the lyrics? Axl said it was written about Virginia Tech which would place it no earlier than April 2007. But I've seen forum users say that was a retcon and the album was already in mixing at that point. I thought I remembered that the band was recording in a new studio in spring 2007 and that the album wasn't mixed until around Christmas 2007? Any GNR historians have some thoughts?

I can say the awful club mix was mixed by Sean Beresford in December 2007, & given that has the vocals in it then it the vocals and lyrics clearly existed at that point.

Brain: Axl is really interested in having everybody bring what they do into the picture. I just did a remix of  "Shackler’s,” - made it kind of more club. And I think he wants to put out a remix album of some of the other songs we did. http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/arti … icleid=175

My friend Brain is the drummer for Guns N' Roses (he also used to be the drummer for Primus). He wrote  two of the songs on the new Guns N' Roses record 'Chinese Democracy" released late last year.
He and his musical collaborator Melissa Reese worked up a hip hop/club version of the song 'Shackler's  Revenge" with programmed beats and additional loops and cool sounds. They asked me to mix it. I've been  chipping away at it for a few weeks over the Christmas holidays and finally I think it is done. I'm quite happy with how it turned out, it is pretty wacky though! (later, sometime in February) Brain called to say that Axl  Rose finally heard the remix and really likes it. Yay!.. (Sean Beresford Sunday,January, 2009)

The remix actually was posted on Sean's profile page for a short time before being removed.  http://www.blightysound.com/Blighty_Sou … %99_Roses_- _Shackler_Revenge_club_remix.html (broken link)

If that interview with Sean was in January 2009 and Brain called him in February then it follows that Brain  and Mellissa Reese made the remix in December 2007. Which proves that at least this remix actually pre dated Chinese Democracy's release.

Oh and if anyone has ever found the drums on the 'Don't ever tell me' part of Shacklers sound familiar then go listen to the 'disco' drum beat from OMG wink

Looking forward to this, original version of the song sounds great. Can kind of see why he may have picked it, don't think the vocals are too taxing. At least we will get an idea of what he has left vocally studio wise

At least we'll find out if he can still sing.

This was rumoured years ago, so if we ever hear it (& who knows if we will) it wont really be a reflection of what he sounds like in a studio now.

I think Axl will be focused on legal stuff too much this year to do much gnr related, wouldn't be stunned if we get Atlas or Monsters or both to tide people over to a more active year in 2025 though, we shall see

Yeah Virgil deserves to be remembered as more than just a meme. Could have done far more with the Soul Train Jones gimick if allowed the time

I've been knowing this for years about Street of Dreams, I don't understand the fuss. I.R.S, it's about Erin Everly when he was in court and watching the news there was a terrorist attack and he didn't understand why the hell he was wasting time there when more important things were happening in the world. And street of dreams is about Dylan, he keeps those father-son memories with a lot of love, but they are just memories that he has, he wanted Dylan to read it so that he would know that for a time he played his father. I have searched for it on Google and It came out the first time, I'll look for something else, greetings to all!

The court date/ terrorist attack song is Oklahoma I believe.
