#681 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash and Axl friends again? » 557 weeks ago
According to MSL and others there wasn't communication until the Vegas DVD, where Slash, for the first time, allowed for a release for a new era live DVD.
The production company, Rockfuel, was blowing the horn on AFDem in early 2013; their job was done. Late May 2014, the Blu-Ray was announced. These things take a while to move on, so it would be plausible that progress was made with Duff on tour in April.
The earliest clue that things maybe changing, that I recall, was Axl's Golden Gods speech, when he thanked all past members.
That ceremony immediately followed up the South American tour with Duff.
Axl could've opened up to Duff about how bummed he is with the Blu-Ray on the skids. Duff, with his business acumen, could've explained it out to both parties that they'd all make money and benefit from the release. To Axl, AFDem must've been a big thing, it's a transitory release showcasing the band as it was in 2009-14. It was proof Guns had outlived both CD and Slash and were still a competent live band.
The table is rigged yet again in Axl's favour, provided he withholds from shooting himself in the foot again. All he needs to do is to lay low. Slash is the one person that can vindicate Axl in the media. The Swedish soundbyte will haunt him in every other interview from now on. And by the way, the Aftonbladet quote has a precedent.
"I gotta be careful what I say there. I mean, if everybody wanted to do [a reunion] and do it for the right reasons, you know, I think the fans would love it. I think it might be fun at some point to try and do that, but... it just starts to get into a whole complex thing. But anyway, it's really between the guys in the band."
Slash admitted that he and Axl Rose hadn't spoken for "a long time," but that most of their old tensions had eased. "We don't have all those issues anymore," he said. "There's not a lot of controversy. It's something that's more perpetuated by the media than anything."
Axl and Slash may have actually spoken in the times since, through phone or otherwise. But there's decades worth of things to suss out, and one of them is known for his nebulous sense of time. A year after the South American tour, Slash casually makes it known that things have improved between them. Having said that, it's a still long way to the stage.
BTW, the South American tour leg gets a lot of lines drawn back to it.
"[Bumblefoot] quit in South America. He told Axl he was done and (Las) Vegas would be his last run with the band."
Somewhere between South America and Vegas, Axl decided they had toured enough. During the Golden Gods show, he expressed desire to open up the Vault and focus on CD2 again. He would be lacking a guitarist, anyway. Somehow, this mutated into 'Axl's retiring' in the media. He did, however, trademark Stay of Execution during the stay in Vegas, for whatever reason.
What's curious is the history of the trademark. The record shows it was abandoned by the copyright bureau on July 27th, '15. What else happened on that day? DJ announced leaving Guns, for one.
Now, it's plausible that DJ was involved in SOE(tm), as something they came up with while in South America/Vegas. AFDem was happening. Ron was leaving. Axl wanted home. In our sleuth work, SOE(tm) was narrowed down to something relating to a live performance. It could've been a 2015 residency, to kick off CD2.
Late October, the Sixx AM album was released. First week projected sales were at 15-18K. They apparently nailed it with 17K. However, they only toured for a month (April). After that, DJ's been in the studio with them.
"Imagine the next two years filled with world tours, meet n' greets and more new music by Sixx:A.M. than your ears can handle. Well, that's exactly what's about to happen." - Dj ASHBA
However, DJ only announced leaving Guns when SOE(tm) fell through. There's a case to be made that he might've waited on Axl to deliver SOE/CD2 by this summer.
What he delivered, in January, were platinum awards for CD sales to DJ and Frank.
For all intents and purposes, Axl's done with CD now, and apparently wants to move on. Only by his clock.

"He hates my guts," says Slash. "It's over a lot of different stuff; I don't even know. There's just no communication between us."
The odds of a Guns truce:
"I feel that ball's not in my court. I'm surviving this war, not the one who created this war."
“I’m not bored with the fascination with [Guns N’ Roses music]. What I’m bored with is all the brouhaha with stuff the media have no idea what they are talking about.. the causing of unnecessary conflict between the original members... I’m sick of it.”
Duff McKagan has performed a few gigs with Axl’s current lineup of Guns N’ Roses, which leads me to ask: Do you ever foresee a time when you might write and record with Axl again?
People have been speculating about it for years, but I really have a hard time picturing it... because I’m always focused on the next show. There hasn’t been any communication along those lines between he and I.

I already applaud Axl for staying out of this.
It's interesting. Slash says he and Axl have mended fences some. The way I read it, their relations are currently better than, say, 2009.
Then again, this has been a long-term process. Duff first joined Guns on stage in London, October 2010. (I suppose Duff could play guitar on something somewhere... - Axl, Feb 2009)
[Since the RRHOF announcement in Dec 2011, we've] communicated with... former members of Guns N' Roses... and read various public comments and jabs from [them].
On Dec 16th, 2011, Duff played with Guns in Seattle. Axl congratulated Duff and the rest of Guns for the nomination.
Axl and Izzy doing 14 Years live in May 2012, merely six weeks after they blew the induction ceremony.
Duff came back to Guns in 2014. I'd say at that point, Axl and Slash were thawing their issues. Duff could've been the messenger. Close proximity to Axl and a straight line to Slash. There's an opportunity to "dispell some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long".
The fact that Axl passed the chance to hammer down on Slash's brother is telling in itself.

Calling someone a fat bastard is an insult.
True, that's out of line.
The point is, tho, a successful reunion requires Axl to be in fighting shape, sonically and physically. A reunion show with Bridge School vocals would label him a has-been. A performance on par with Bucharest '10, on the other hand...
Would this be sufficient alongside a WOF-era Slash?

He has a point with the weight, all things considered.

Axl in '06.

Axl in '11.
He's still in reasonable shape for his age and profession, but touring and boozing begin to add up.
#686 Re: Guns N' Roses » When's Album? » 557 weeks ago
Well, clearly he can't say more than that. They all seem to have a contract that forbids them to do so.
I would suggest not as much a contract than a general guideline. Dizzy's always been between talkative and mum over the years.
He's just happy to be working, I'd say. The Daisies are currently touring with Whitesnake until mid-Dec.
Meanwhile, Pitman has decidedly moved more towards production and EDM.
With a very diverse background as a guitarist, keyboardist, and songwriter, Chris is making a clean transition into production (skip below to hear their debut tune).
“About five years ago I started doing DJ events in Brazil, and LA... my forte was rock songs that I remixed with house beats, Drum and bass, and gradually I started playing live Bass guitar and synths in the set…added Frank (Ferrer) on electronic drums and so on. Then it evolved into producing music...
It’s always between Logic and Ableton for us. I did programming for Arturia soft synths, which are great plugins. Production wise, the advantages of digital for clarity and transients, as well as clip automation, is unreal now. The technology has made a lot of new ideas possible.”
Remember how Axl envisioned CD2 to be electronica w/ full guitars?
“I didn’t join Guns N’ Roses just to come in as a guitar player... I felt I really could bring something to the table not as a guitar player, but as a songwriter and producer...
If I were to be asked to help Caram out or do whatever they need me to do, obviously, they know I’m there through thick and thin...
That’s what gets me excited about being in the band - knowing that we have a really great shot at putting out something that’s just going to blow people’s mind...
Sixx:A.M. is just me, Nikki and James. We dump our hearts and soul into that band. It’s a labor of love... that’s where we can truly be artists. We don’t have to follow any rules.”
So, DJ left because he was given the short end of the stick? Maybe some gtr to be recorded and patched into existing songs, with the remote possibility that one of his demos would become 'a seed of a song', thus earning him writing credit? Producing CD2 was, perhaps, his best idea to squeeze himself into the royalties of a would-be album. By now, it's obvious that Pitman has a better shot at that post, so... adieu, Ashba.
#687 Re: Guns N' Roses » When's Album? » 557 weeks ago
Dizzy says nothing earth-shattering. In dribs and drabs, he implies CD2, consisting of mostly '98-'01 songs, is being worked on, with a possible release next year. He's sly about the renunion ('We've already got a taste of it with Duff and Izzy), which is certainly different than the company line "focus is on the new band", enforced by Axl (in words, anyway).

Pitman and Axl putting the finishing touches on CD II?
![]()
*exits fantasy land*
If Axl wanted to work on it right now, Pitman would be the obvious choice to be his hands on the mouse, keyboard, and the desk. I understand Caram Costanzo's out - he did live sound for a good while (incl. the AFDem Blu-Ray). Axl's said Eric Caudieux now has health issues. Pitman's currently the last man standing out of the old studio team.
It would be the ideal situation for Axl. He could work at home, never press 'REC', the pressure'd be off. Just him and Pitman, tweeting pics and vids together.
The story behind the video:
"The Los Angeles Daily News is reporting that fire scorched about a half-acre to one acre of brush in the Malibu area today as temperatures hit as high as 102 degrees in the Los Angeles area. The fire hit the 900 block of Latigo Canyon Road about two miles north of Pacific Coast Highway, with crews on the ground and an aircraft quickly extinguishing the flames. Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose lives in the area, and filmed video of the aircraft flying near his home. 120 firefighters were sent to the scene, and Axl Rose’s Paradise City appears to be safe." - http://www.alternativenation.net/fire-b … ghborhood/

Are we going to talk about?
Well,
the original complaint can be read here.
It was filed on Oct 2nd, 2009.
On March 10th, 2010, Schnauss complained the Guns/Geffen lawyers were stalling.
Defendant’s motion to dismiss the Complaint ... is premised on the erroneous contention that Plaintiffs are required, in the initial pleading, to establish and prove every possible aspect of their copyright infringement claim that may arise.
Using the case number (09 Civ. 8400), I found a scheduling for it.
It was ordered on June 3rd, 2011, over a year later. The last date set on the schedule, following "expert" testimonies, was Nov 23rd, 2011 (for serving dispositive motions of liability). That last date was Axl's chance to say they have no case. Ironically, the CD 2-year anniversary.
You can prolly check the court archives with the case number if you want to plough ahead.
