#7001 Re: Guns N' Roses » *FALSE* "The Collective's" unofficial statement regarding C.D. » 951 weeks ago

Just for the record, I still put the release of the record on Axl.....14 years should have been enough to tie up the details.:haha:

I am not saying lower level to discredit anything....I am only saying lower level to describe their separation from the upper crust inner circle-Jimmy Iovine's immediate circle. That is where anything going on with the band will occur. It will not be public knowledge throughout the company. However, at the pace this record has gone, it certainly doesn't suprise me that the label won't hear from the band for months. 17 The magical mystery tour continues on with no end in sight.:flame:

No offense Russ (an Elvis man is a good man).....but Beta may be a little closer to the fire than some of Russ' lower level buddies at Uni. Unless he is emailing Jimmy Iovine, I simply don't think his contacts have a clue what could possibly be going on. They will find out a release date when we do. 15

Although I like the album Please To Meet Me best, Bastards of Young and Left of the Dial are probably their two best songs. Any Gnr fan who is interested in the band should first listen to those two songs and go from there. The Best of the Replacements is a very good compilation that will show you how they changed throughout their career.

I really wish while Tommy is sitting on his ass waiting on Chinese takeout that The Replacements would put together a small tour to promote their reissues and Best Of album. 22

Brain himself said within the last year that he thought he was on 90% of the material...anybody else remember him saying that because I don't remember exactly where it came from.:haha:

Hands down Madagascar at Rio 2001....I thought I was gonna have a heart attack the first time I heard it. It was that good to me. At that point, it could not have described Axl's feelings and detachment over the past 6 years any better. I truly thought he was back and the album was coming soon. Personally, I don't like the way the song is played now as much as that first vesion. I hope there is a studio version similar to that with the more melodic guitar solo. Bucket just owns that tune when you actually see the video. Plus, Robin's licks are so soulful and are a perfect compliment to Bucket. Not sure what Axl and Huge are doing on guitar though....

#7006 Re: The Sunset Strip » Replacements Reissues » 951 weeks ago

that is true.... if you can be both, they kinda are. They could allegedly put on the worst show you have ever seen, then turnaround the next night and be the best rock and roll band in the world (talkin from 81-87).

what's amazing is that Mysteron or someone hasn't completely called this bullshit yet.:|

Hey, you like what you like and I am not trying to convince you to like them. The lyrics aren't anything special in this song, but they describe kids of the 80's pretty spot on....we had no wars to fight, we weren't the baby boomers, we were just kind of lost. We were just "income tax deductions" for our baby boomer parents. The video is perfect example of what the Mats were about and how anti mtv and stuff they were. Just a speaker and at the end the kid bashes it.:haha:

this video shows you how they became much more poppy after Bob left. They were trying to make it on the pop charts at this point (1990)

The three big bands were Rem, U2, and The Mats....obviously, 2 of them made it big. The Replacements were just Minnesota white cracker odd....they had just as many great songs and albums as U2 and REM, but they were never produced for mainstream radio because the band was so anti establishment. The years when they were at their peak, 84-87, they just had too much punk spirit to give in and conform. By the time they gave in, 1988-1990 after Tommy's brother got kicked out, they were a shell of their former selves. The funny thing is, at that time, they were still getting Rolling Stone artist of the year awards and were all over MTV in the alternative, 120 minutes shows. Tommy's brother was a kickass lead guitarist and was completely out of control. From 81-86, he gave them the edge that was a perfect compliment to Westerberg's songwriting. If you don't like this song, you probably will never be a fan. It describes my generation and high school in the 80's, better than any other song I can recall. 5

God, what a mess, on the ladder of success
Where you take one step and miss the whole first rung
Dreams unfulfilled, graduate unskilled
It beats pickin' cotton and waitin' to be forgotten

We are the sons of no one, bastards of young
We are the sons of no one, bastards of young
The daughters and the sons

Clean your baby's room, trash that baby boom
Elvis in the ground, there will be no beer tonight
Income tax deduction, one hell of a function
It beats pickin' cotton and waitin' to be forgotten

We are the sons of no one, bastards of young
We are the sons of no one, bastards of young
The daughters and the sons

Unwillingness to claim us, ya got no war to name us

The ones who love us best are the ones we'll lay to rest
And visit their graves on holidays at best
The ones who love us least are the ones we'll die to please
If it's any consolation, I don't begin to understand them

We are the sons of no one, bastards of young
We are the sons of no one, bastards of young
The daughters and the sons
