It's a shame that a band with Slash and Duff in it couldn't make more than two or three good songs and only one really solid one (Slither) but they couldn't...bottom line. I'm glad they are breaking up. Liberturd was a pile of shit and I was utterly disappointed because I knew what they SHOULD be able to do. Weiland was good in STP, that is where he needs to be. Slash and DUff need to move on and find the right formula for solid rock n roll again...they have the right stuff if they can mix it into the right formula again.

Didn't Soul Asylum's Grave Dancers Union come out in 93?!
92...but that and "Let Your Dim Light Shine" are my two favorite albums by them. I loved Leave W/O a Trace from Grave Dancers, 99% and (of course) Runaway Train and String of Pearls and Misery were the shit from Dim Light.

cant forget
crue's decade od decadence
Ugly Kid Joe - As ugly as they wanna be
tom petty's into the great wide openall in 91
Warrant released Cherry pie and Jon BOn Jovi released young guns 2 sound track both awesome albums in 90 then we cannot forget panteras cowboys album or rust in peace
92 had vulgar display of power from pantera as well as White ZOmbies debut and Angel Dust by FNM, coutdown by megadeth, AOC dirt, REM automatic for the people. rage against the machine, incestcide by nirvana
then 93
tool undertow
get a grip areosmith
collective soul's debut
candlebox
siamese dream by the pupmkins
in utero nirvana
pearl jam vsbut we cant forget that crap like en vogue and boyz 2 men started out around then too so that kinda really sucked around this time to watch MTV
Good points Neemo. 90 did have some goodies, RIP by Megadeth for sure, Jon Bon Jovi's soundtrack for Young Guns 2 was actually my favorite work besides New Jersey by him, and Pantera's Cowboy's From Hell will always be there swan song in my opinion. One other I would add from 90 was Ac/Dc's last relevant album...The Razor's Edge.
I would definitely add Tom Petty's Great Wide Open to the 91 list but would pass on Decade by the Crue because in essence that was the real end for them in my opinion...the curse of the "Greatest Hits" package. Warrant's Cherry Pie shined in the NON hits in my opinion (with the exception of the EXCELLENT Uncle Tom's Cabin). Song and Dance Man was killer, Mr. Rainmaker kicked ass, the cover of Blackfoot's (I think that was the band) Train Train ROCKED and Sure Feels Good To Me was a taste of what the band could do when they didn't feel the need for a "hit slow song". I would also have to pass on Ugly Kid's "As Ugly As They Wanna Be" for a few simple reasons. The biggest reason is the awful "Everything About You" debuted on this cd. This song followed them onto "America's Least Wanted" and unfortunately was the start yet end of the success of UKJ. The song was catchy but shit in reality. Really sad because they are one of the best bands of the past 20 years...yes, really guys (a few know this already like Backslash, myself and Neemo but it is TRUE). The other problem with this album (besides only being an ep) is the best song on the album is "Too Bad". It is a good song but it sounds almost identical to Motley Crue, even the singing. They hadn't found their sound yet and this was the first impression that led to eventual alienation after the breakthrough album that followed. Too bad (lol)...considering their non-hits (sounds familiar, huh?) were the real gems. If you want to get turned on to some great UKJ either get "America's Least Wanted" and ignore the hits or go straight to their best album..."Menace To Sobriety" which has no hits but an arsenal of kickass rock n roll.
I agree with your 93 selections as well (although hesitantly as far as Collective Soul goes...really the throwback-to-classic-rock "Shine" was all that really hit with me). In fact I would say that the period of 91-93 was the best YEARS of rock music that has occured since the 60's...EASILY.

Tesla - Psychotic Supper
GREAT catch on the Tesla release. They are SO completely underrated and that is a great album.
Thanks man, I've seen Tesla a couple of times and they absolutely fucking rock! All their albums are solid and they are gifted songwriters and musicians as well. Psychotic Supper has three of my favorite songs on it as well. The excellent Edison's Medicine, the song written for the late Steve "Steamin" Clark (Def Leppard's guitarist) Song & Emotion and the absolute blazin' crowd-pleaser (and quite possibly Tesla's most underrated song) Had Enough. So many great albums in 1991. They don't do music like that anymore!!
I'm a fan of 92, although 91 is just as good, maybe better.
1992 Albums
Blind Melon - Blind Melon
Dirt - Alice in Chains
Sap - Alice in Chains
Broken - Nine Inch Nails
Gordon - Barenaked Ladies
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Dog Eat Dog - WarrantAlthough I'm not a big fan, STP's Core came out. Faith No More put out Angel Dust...
I'd forgot about Broken and Sap, I like Blind Melon too...1992 is a close second to 1991. Funny you mentioned Dog Eat Dog by Warrant. For the most part as their music got better their popularity declined, of course by 92 Grunge was dominating and anybody even remotely akin to "hair band" was totally fucked. Too bad, Dog Eat Dog featured some good stuff: Machine Gun/Hole in My Wall/Quicksand/All My Bridges Are Burning and Sad Theresa being my favorites.
One other album I would add to the 1991 lineup would be Great White's "Hooked". I know most people either associate Great White with the "cheese-but-fun" hits like Once Bitten Twice Shy or the horrible nightclub fire tragedy from a few years back but these guys played some INCREDIBLE music as well. The album Sail Away is arguably their best featuring a song called All Right this is excellent. Hooked (the 1991 album) started showcasing Great White as a REAL band (like Tesla) not just a dime-a-dozen pile of shit that came from the lesser hair bands of the time. Congo Square/Desert Moon/Cold Hearted Lovin'/Can't Shake It and Heartbreaker are all prime post-bullshit-hits Great White classics.

Also U2 Achtung Baby came out a few weeks after UYI. Jane's Addicition & Smashing Pumpkins also had releases I think. In general 91-93 were great years. 67-69 were probably great to live thru also.
THANKS for reminding me of U2...that was the major one I couldn't recall!! I'm not sure about the Smashing Pumpkins cd unless you are talking about GISH, it came out around then but I didn't really get into the Pumpkins until Siamese Dream. Seems like there may have been a greatest hits by the Pumpkins in 91. Jane's "Ritual De Lo Habitual" was released in 1990, I'm not sure if that's the one you were talking about by them or not. I didn't jump on the "Jane Wagon" until that album.
Today 00:45:59 I'm pretty sure No More Tears actually came out the same day as the Illusion albums did. Which helps make me second 1991 with you. I could be wrong though.
You're not wrong. I own all the said cds I listed and I should have looked on the back of the cd rather than the far corners of my own mind's (faltering apparently) memory. Ozzy's BEST album (imo) WAS indeed released in 1991 making my justification for calling 1991 the best year for music solidified. Thanks Jorge!!
These corrected errors REALLY help me stand by my decision, check out the list now!
Cds That Came Out In 1991
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger
U2 - Achtung Baby!
Ozzy - No More Tears
Skid Row - Slave to the Grind
Pearl Jam - Ten
Nirvana - Nevermind
Guns N' Roses - Use Your Illusion I and II
Metallica - The Black Album
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magick
Tesla - Psychotic Supper

I was digging through some old cds today and as I was doing so I noticed something....1991 was a KICK ASS year for rock!! Although I'm sure we all have many different years we would pick as THE BEST I can honestly say 1991 was the best for me...bar none!

There may have been more but these came to mind readily and solidified my decision!
The year to follow (1992) was very close with releases like Ozzy's No More Tears, Megadeth's Countdown to Extinction, Alice in Chain's Dirt, Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark and STP's Core.

We all have them...what's yours?
One of mine is these damned telemarketers! I'm on the "do not call" list and it worked for awhile but lately I'm getting some asshole or another calling nearly every day. They always seem to call when you are eating or doing something important. They never seem to call when you are at work. I think I'm going to change my message on my answering machine to "This is 'Slinger, please leave your name and number and I'll get back to you when I can...if you are a telemarketer please be sure to also leave the time that you and your family have dinner so I can be sure to call you then and return the favor for all the times you do this shit to me!"

Argentinian "gnome" scaring the bejezus out of kids
Posted by Mark Frauenfelder, March 13, 2008 9:57 AM on boingboing.net link: http://www.boingboing.net/2008/03/13/ar … me-sc.html
A gnome is walking the streets of Salta, Argentina at night, and he scaring the town's children.
A town in South America is living in fear after several sightings of a "creepy gnome" that locals claim stalks the streets at night. The midget -- which wears a pointy hat and has a distinctive sideways walk -- was caught on video last week by a terrified group of youngsters. ... "One of my friends was so scared after seeing that thing that we had to take him to the hospital."
We believe these kids when they say it's not a prank, right?
Sounds like something me and my friends would have made up as kids. I love the last part "One of my friends was so scared after seeing that thing that we had to take him to the hospital"....that just screams KIDS WANTING ATTENTION!!

The city shut down this morning... worst blizzard of the year. We had a foot of snow and had wind gusts of 140 km/h (that's like 90 mi/hr). It changed to rain about noon, but that just made a fucking mess. Looks like it's snowing again now and we're looking at another 6 inches by noon tomorrow. The wind has died back to 100 km/h, but this is just shitty.
Bus tour tomorrow (that's right, Slinger... more pissing in beer cans and throwing them at oncoming traffic) can't come soon enough!
Word to the wise, if you live near Backslash be sure to wear a raincoat...regardless of the weather!
I've decided I need more cash than what I have (who doesn't?)...dammit these taxes, license plate yearly stickers, car inspection stickers, etc etc is sucking major ass. There are so many freakin' hidden taxes here that people just don't realize how much of their income really goes to this shit. I have an idea...fuck rebuilding all the other countries and spending all of our money on a war with a bunch of desert rats and maybe we could make it a little better and our recession would be rectified much quicker.
