None of the Estranged bashing ever happend untill after the video was released. the song rules and everyone knew it. BUT when they put out the over the top video it was durring the Grunge fever pitch and it was now cool to blast bands like Gn'R. the video was pompus so critics started to associate the song with the video. the video was anything but street crd Gn'R so of course sudenly the song losses it's cred. My brother who is not in any way shape or from a diehard or even a fan really just said he thinks Estranged is, and I quote "fucking awesome".
is it just me or am I seeing a situation develope here where people are wanting to like the new Gn'R so badly that the've actually started trying to justify a song like Estranged being a joke or Civil War being forgettable to support their case? This has got to be one of the most insane things I've ever seen on a Gn'R forum.
This is exactly what is going on. Breakdown, if a CD era song, would be the best CD era song IMO. I can't believe a fellow fan would say Estranged was trash. I think its one of GNR's finest moments.
Please show me where I said Estranged is trash. For those who know my past, i have always said Estranged is an amazing song and far better than NR.
Breakdown is too an amazing song.
Saikin, you didn't. I think I once saw the list you speak of called bad songs by great bands. I think it had to do with a video that wasn't well recieved. I remember letting a friend hear estranged on the school bus in 1993 or so. He was fucking blown away and was never a fan of GNR but said that song was brilliant. No lie. He said it was one of the most beautiful songs he had ever heard.

Civil War is easily forgotten by the general public. Ask anyone that isn't a diehard to name a GNR song and i can guarantee that Civil War and Estranged won't even cross their minds.

Here, though, the GN'R forum arrogance is already stamped on this post just like those loving the leaks. Tell me again who loves Estranged beyond GN'R diehards? Estranged is one of the biggest jokes to music fans when it came out, and it's still an easy joke people make when talking about GN'R.
I am 100% sure that The Blues would be given more respect than Estranged was.
And I'm not sure people really remember Civil War...
You are completely wrong with this statement. When the Illusion albums came out every muther fucker owned those albums including non diehards and Estranged was thought of as amazing by most everyone I know. It's the video that was thought of as a joke. Trust me on that one. Civil War is a song that's appreciated by people who dont' even like the old GN'R.
Bono, stop reading my mind.

Everyone I know that has ever heard estranged loved it. Civil War gets good air play where I live. Next.

We went from VR comparisons to Snakepit comparisons???
Whats next: Pisser??
GNR has a lot of work to do on these "demos" or "ideas" before they are ready for big time to be the next GNR album. Release the fucker as a solo now and move the fuck on. There, I said it.
Maddy = Tired
Blues = Nice, been heard a billion times
Better = Kick ass song
IRS = Boring
Song #2 = Nice, but Not single level
Song #3 = Again, a song that fans will enjoy, not much single potential
Chinese Democracy = Good Rock Song, wouldn't get higher than 72 on the charts.
NEXT.

I'm a huge Dream Theater fan. I see virtually no similarities.
That is because Dream Thearter is better at being Dream Theatre. I said that because some of this stuff is close to prog.

Communist China wrote:People have been talking about dated, and the influences... and I'm STILL the only one to hear a ton of Faith No More in If The World? It's almost a FNM cover tune, yet all I hear is that it's a BH 70s funk-porn song. I can't be the only one to hear that.
EDIT: Just saw the post in the If The World thread. That's what I'm talking about. I hear way more of that than I do BH.
It's a 20th century album I guess. But then again the popular new rock music like Buckcherry is pretty much just going back to old Aerosmith roots, so what does that tell you? It's really hard to define a sound that's current... it's just a certain type of retro that's popular right now and that isn't really what CD is, I guess.
I know someone who is a huge FNM fan on an STP forum, i will ask him to listen to If the World and see what he thinks. I haven't heard too much of them so i can't really say.
One of the biggest problems with current music is that there really is no one sound that can define the time. It's not like Grunge, or Hair Metal or anything like that.
Smoking Guns- guitars don't get my dick hard. The mixing is off on these songs, and they do sound a little cluttered. But just because of that, you can't say that other music is better musically. Musically these tracks are beyond Snakepit.
Hahahaha, well, as a guitar player, some of the shit Slash plays hits me. Same for other players. The "getting a hard on" line was an expression to say its bad ass.
I think Serial Killer could hang with some of these songs no problem. I think the songs with the mix Slash got would be a whole lot better.

GNR is more like Dream Theatre now, which were heavily influenced by Rush. So is GNR a modern day Rush?
#9080 Re: Guns N' Roses » Overall feelings on the CD era songs.... » 927 weeks ago
Guys, prepare to flame me. After listening to the leaks again today and enjoying them, I put on Ain't Life Grand by Snakepit.
NOT EVEN FUCKING CLOSE, SERIAL KILLER ALONE OWNS THESE NEW SONGS. Why? I can hear guitars. I can hear drums. The vocals are mixed perfect. The songs are not filled with noise and clutter. Its precise, to the point, filled with great guitar solos. There is even overproduction with car crashes, music box, hip hop song on mean bone. But I hear the riffs instantly.
I know what the leaks miss, SEX IN THE GUITAR PLAYING. Guitar playing with sex and balls that makes your dick hard just hearing it. Take a song like Landslide or the Truth. These are average songs, but they are focused and if even predictable, they rock. GNR is a rock guitar band. Somewhere the guitars, sans solos, is lost.
