Re: 2023 Tour Dates

Looks like Axl played a solo thing,

"The best kept secret of the peninsula this week : “ An intimate private dinner in favor of Unicef ”.

If the title of the evening is not enough to " unleash passions " in these times of accumulation of summer charity evenings on our shores, one participant had enough to turn things upside down.

To find out, you just had to get a copy of the precious invitation card that certain privileged people had been able to receive in recent days to go to the Polo Club of Saint-Tropez de Gassin this Tuesday, July 25.

There, on an elegant blue background, appeared in capital letters the name of Axl Rose with the mention “ Special Guest”.

If we could doubt the announcement, the tempestuous singer of Guns N'Roses kept his promises between petits fours and cocktails, pushing the song behind a piano to split in particular a solo version of November Rain.

An almost anachronistic arrival on the sidelines of a triumphant world tour of the Guns who are leaving Europe to return to the American stadiums, with a date in Moncton (Canada) from August 5 before performing in front of our Quebec cousins at Parc Jean Drapeau of Montreal, August 8.

This is not, however, his first "private party" in Saint-Tropez.

In July 2012, he went on stage for a special show that punctuated a wedding evening at the Château de Saint-Tropez with the unexpected presence of old sidekick Izzy Stradlin who came to cross swords on guitars with DJ Ashba and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal ( Slash being then out of the group).

he was advertised just as himself

Idle thought: why don't they ever play Don't Cry with the alternate lyrics live? It's not as if they haven't done it before:

And it's basically a free "new" deep cut since the band can literally play the exact same tune.

That was good….thanks!

Just like with the Lisa Marie funeral, this is a small taste of an alternate timeline where instead of wallowing in GNR/Chinese his whole career, he goes out on solo ventures.

I've said it for years...in the 2000s he could've reinvented himself like Rod Stewart and had a killer 2nd and 3rd act to his career.

He wasn't willing to put in the work to make it happen. Like David Gilmour, he was content to coast to the finish line on fumes using the band name.

Gilmour caught a second wind after PF first broke up and for a while was amazing. Did his second solo album, lots of guest spots, reunited Pink Floyd, more guest spots …

Then he got married. It really seems like Polly keeps him on a short leash.

This doesn't really deserve it's own thread or anything but Fortus recently did this small gear video, it's a cool idea for straps tbh surprised nobody done this before

Since they have to add covers to alleviate their boredom...they should add a Sinead O'Connor song to the upcoming tour leg.

Axl could sing Nothing Compares...or let Melissa sing Troy, Mandinka, or even Black Boys On Mopeds.

Yeah I like that idea & I'm someone against them doing more covers in general but they could just introduce a cover like that and do it say 5 or 6 times instead of 30 like WL

If they ever do put a new album from scratch out, I could see her and Axl doing like a call an return style vocal on something

Is it the promoters that suffer or do the band take a portion of the ticket sales? Either way I don't feel much sympathy, the band has had plenty of time and opportunity to do something.

It's the promoters taking a bath.

Next time GNR tour here, it will be either arenas or for a smaller fee. No way around it.....

Unless it's a farewell...when everyone will go see them one last time.

It's surprising that Live Nation didn't try to get them to release something.

Expect a massive fire sale....hand out tickets just to get you there to pay for parking and buy beer and nachos. They do this on various tours.

I know I keep banging this drum, but they should do Gimme Shelter with Melissa taking the Merry Clayton part.
