#991 Re: Guns N' Roses » Rumors building up regarding CDII release date... » 827 weeks ago

Do you think this poor sucker was told something by a buddy and got all excited and came here thinking he'd be welcomed as the prodical son? He picked the wrong forum for that!!!

#992 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash makes a small comment on Chinese Democracy » 827 weeks ago

Slash intentionally overexposed himself, in order to gain that notority.

You can only get overexposed if there is interest in the media in putting you up there in the first place.

At this point, I think younger people just remember him as the guy with the top hat who plays guitar, rather than Guns N' Roses.

That makes no sense. How did you get into music as a kid? To assume a kid would play the game,  listen to the songs and not put two and two together and use the web to find out more about Slash and his place in GNR is just not realistic. Half the excitement when you are young is getting into bands and especially older generation bands as there is a 'coolness factor' associated.  I mean, how did discover Led Zep etc?? Kids are into Slash and GNR because of the game. The end justifies the means.

Slash's situation is VERY UNIQUE to him, considering the stature of Guns N' Roses at the time it dissolved.

That doesn't mean his success was in any way assured. He used his legacy to stay current and has managed to have a few Number 1s since.

The last guitar hero left? Well I agree with you, but these lameoid punk kids these days think that Radiohead is Pink Floyd, and Kurt Cobain was Paul McCartney

But Slash still remains huge news; that's my point, he has transended the generation gap reagrdless of how screwed up the kids are, many still lap up his work.

So does Slash. Slash was not the best of his era. Eddie was better, Vai was better, Bucket was better (started in the early 90's), Paul Gilbert was with Mr. Big which no one took seriously, and was better.

who said anything about being the best? You're confusing my point about Slash's style rather than his chops.

Slash only has that icon thing to go on.

How does one become an icon? From setting a unique global standard in your chosen craft. Slash has done that. He's been out there for 25 years earning that cliched title. The quality of his work is what keeps people coming back. He gave them his best of stuff in the 80's and 90's but came back in '04 and '10 with more and huge amounts of people are still digging it. Maybe not as much as the past but again as I said before, for a lone guitar player who can't get a singer to settle, its a hell of a run.

if anything he was the Steven Tyler of his era. But Freddie Mercury was better.

I would have said Axl was a bigger icon that Tyler - he was truly a global fascination. I have to 100% agree with you about Mercury though. Outrageous showman, singer and songwriter. A once in a generation front man.

Maybe the reality is that the stakes are so much higher for singers as there have been so many hugely talented icons over the years. Weiland has a huge career but gets panned constantly when compared to the greats..bum deal for the average guy done well!!!:peace:

I just don't get folks lining up to have a pissing competition on behalf of each man. Both occupy a place in rock legend, both men are still in huge demand and are still doing nicely from their unique contribution to rock music history and culture twenty years ago.  Both men reek of wasted opportunities when stacked against peers like Bono & the Edge, Page & Plant etc..

I don't think Slash wants to play with Axl in the way that some of you Axl blow-hards are insinuating. I doubt Slash lies awake at night wishing Axl would call. That'™s Stephen and Matt'™s job. Duff and Slash have left the door open but on very strict terms (some of them even for our benefit). Like any ordinary human being, the thoughts of getting up to $20MIL for just standing on stage with your old sparring partner, cranking out the hits to a delirious crowd for a few hours a year must be a VERY attractive offer. Hell, I'™m a married man and I'™d lick the sweat off Axl'™s balls for $20M, never mind stand on one side of a stage and play my guitar with him!!

It must not be forgotten that Weiland alluded to both sides being at some stage willing to get back out there for big bucks; so both men must have '˜wanted'™ a reunion on some level, even if it was only for the green. I would think Weiland was better placed than any of us to speak about the realities that have gone on behind the scenes and away from the terribly sketchy and often contradictory recollections of Slash or the hopelessly skewed version of the truth offered in the Del interviews.

While we have all sat around here playing the puritant fan, Slash has re-invented himself. Sure, I think the top hat and leather gloves look silly now, but he is a visual as well as an audio brand now. He is no different than Laura Croft to some of the kids out there. Instead of swinging on vines in shorts on their computer screens, he slays them in guitar duels and is known as the cat in the top hat and shades. He has become the cartoon character Axl branded him as originally but you know what? It pays the fucking bills, and then some.

Find me one other guitar player from the eighties who has done so well without his original iconic front man for 15 years. With no Guns N Roses name and no singing voice to communicate with, I think the fact that he is still so well respected and well known is a fucking triumph.

Stack him against Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai and CC DeVille and and any other 80's/90's guitar god and you get a fairer picture of the man. He's the last hero left.

Stack Axl against Bono, Springsteen, and any other vocalist of his stature back in the day and sadly the man comes up short.

#999 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl being sued for $1.8M by Front Line Management » 834 weeks ago

on the yahoo report, it says, "oral agreement", well hell, that doesn't hold water...

actually, would you believe that oral contracts can be as binding as written contracts. But without a written record, it can difficult to prove what you have agreed to.

If either party had witness to the 'gentleman's agreement' and are willing to testify in a court of law about what was agreed then the money could be up for grabs....

Az is no fool. He went into this ith his eyes fully open. I suspect Axl may have to put that Bugatti Veyron off his shopping list..

Very Angus Young on the intro, played deliberately stunted I would think Axlin08.
It's ok, probably will rock live.
