I think I remember reading something a few months ago about how Loria fucked over the Expos in their dying years.  The only strike against Montreal was that their stadium was a poor baseball facility.  But you can't force cities to build new ones if they don't want to (or don't have the cash).  This is one of my pet peeves in sports:  how rich millionaires force cities to build stadiums.  It's absurd how some of these clubs use the threat of relocation to basically force these cities to pony up.

The state of Florida chose the wrong team to build a stadium for, the Rays are far more deserving than the Marlins.  And they have been for some time.

It gets even worse if you're a Chiefs fan.  Chiefs also give up a 2014 third round pick which can become a 2nd round pick if certain conditions are met.

This was brought up by another site but the Chiefs sure like to pick up former 49er QB's.  Steve Deberg, Joe Montana, Steve Bono, Elvis Grbac and now Alex Smith.  Oh the Chiefs also haven't had a win by a drafted qb since 1987.

I believe Sporano works for Oakland now.  Don't think they have enough money to get him.  I wonder if Miami would consider signing a FA OT as there seem to be a good number of them available:  Sam Baker, Will Beatty, Branden Albert, Andre Smith, Jermon Bushrod, and Sebastian Vollmer.  A few of these guys will get tagged but that still leaves a few good ones to pick from.

I wouldn't be too pissed about letting Reggie Bush go.  He's at that age where he could fall off quick.  They should see what they have in Lamar Miller.  Now if you want to complain about why they wasted a 2nd round pick on Daniel Thomas and how he looks fat and slow, you'll have no argument from me on that one.

The big news that came out of the combine is that Star Lotuleilei has a heart problem that could cause him to drop.  Also a lot of teams are red flagging Jarvis Jones because of the neck injury.  His problem is also that there aren't that many 3-4 teams in the top 10 who have a dying need for a edge rusher.  Here's the top 10 and the probability that he'll get taken there:

1) KC-nope they actually have two good 3-4 OLB in Houston and Hali

2)JAX-small chance, I think they might use this on an OT or the obvious DE pick

3)OAK  They run a 4-3 and got abused vs the run last year.  They also have shitty OT and no real long term QB.  And they need a DT as well.  Shariff Floyd seems to be moving up the draft board.

4)PHI Just read that the Eagles are switching to a 3-4.  So there is a chance here but fuck Philly seems to take a DL lineman in the top 3 rounds every year.  They still have Trent Cole, Vinny Curry, Brandon Graham, Darryl Tapp and some other guy whose name I've blanked out on as edge rushers.  To be honest I have no real idea where the Eagles are going with this pick outside of the obvious OT need.

5) DET These guys run a 4-3 and will not have any interest in Jarvis Jones.  DE yes (Avril and Vanden Bosch are gone) or CB or OT should be the pick.

6 CLE Ok he definitely has a chance to land here.

7) ARZ Another 3-4 team.  I guess he could surface here if the OT's are off the board and they don't like any of the QB's.

8) BUF Runs a 4-3 and spent a bunch of money on DE's last year.  I'm thinking QB or wideout here.

9)NYJ  Hmmm....this one actually fits here.  The Jets have a bunch of needs (WR, OT, edge rusher, QB) and could be tempted to pick Jones.  It would probably help his cause if Mingo is off the board.

10) TEN No chance.  I'm going to watching to see how Dion Jordan and Ezekiel Ansah work out tomorrow.  And Richardson or Floyd could factor in here.  Maybe Millner.  I also think they pay Andy Levitre or Louis Vazquez a bunch of cash on the first few days of FA.  They already signed former Bills S George Wilson.  He's not great but he's better than the shit they had at the spot last year.

So the real question is if he falls to 12, will Ireland pick him for your Dolphins?  Can't see the Chargers interested since they need an OT in the worst possible way.

NFL free agency starts in a little more than two weeks and I can't wait for that.  Franchise tags end/are due on March 4th.

The 49ers also have a trade in place for Alex Smith.  KC perhaps?

I actually like the show too. I'm thinking it can't go on forever with there just being one "leader" though. They really ought to kill him off at some point, and then have to figure out who's calling the shots. OR, maybe the current leader is a red herring, and there's someone bigger pulling the strings.

The problem with killing Purefoy off is that this will leave a charisma hole in the show.  I think I found the Bacon character pretty interesting during the 3rd(?) episode when his sister showed up and the flashbacks were very effectively used there.

The Americans have already been renewed for a 2nd season after only four episodes.  I found the last episode pretty enjoyable, not as violent as the first two but still a good character development episode.

It's that time of year again.  I've got decisions to make on who to keep for my fantasy baseball team.  I can keep 2 hitters and 3 pitchers, however the players are in different tiers so I can't necessarily pick the top players all around.  So here's the decisions I have to make.

I've had Hanley Ramirez as my main keeper for YEARS and unfortunately he's really gone downhill of late.  The other choice I have instead of him is Jacoby Ellsbury.  Ellsbury is in a contract year, so usually that means good things.  I do think he's more of an injury risk, but Hanley hasn't played to his potential the last few campaigns.  Another thing to keep in mind.  Hanley qualifies for both 3B and SS.  You have to start LF, CF, and RF in this league, not 3 random OF's.  So Ellsbury's stock is a little higher as a CF than just an overall OF.

My other hitter spot is between Bret Lawrie and Jason Kipnis.  Both young guys who didn't do quite as well as I had hoped last season, but both show promise.  Both of their respective teams and lineups should be improved, so that should help.  2B is much shallower than 3B, so Kipnis may have the edge based on that.  Freddie Freeman is also an option at 1B.  Good power, but not much else that Kipnis and Lawrie can't provide.

Pitchers - I need to keep one RP, and the pickings are slim.  Pretty much between Axford and Bentancourt.  Not pretty, but Axford gets more K's so I guess he gets the nod.

As for SP's, I have Mat Latos and Madison Bumgarner.  I also have Ian Kennedy, but I think Bumgarner is the better option.

If you can't tell, my team has missed the playoffs the last 2 years.  I need to make good on some decisions before, during, and after the draft.

Ramirez vs Ellsbury--I'd go with Ellsbury for the pure fact that he plays in Fenway and Hanley plays in the HR sapping Dodger stadium.

Lawrie vs Kipnis--No real data or anything just kind of a gut pick that Lawrie (and the Blue Jays for that matter) will have a better year.

Axford vs Betantcourt--Didn't know that Betantcourt was 37 years old.  He also plays in Coors.  I'd go with Axford too.

Latos and Bumgartner seem to be the right picks, although Latos plays for Dusty Baker and in the homer haven known as the Great American Ballpark.

Bono, I loved the old winged belt.  Not really sure why they had to get rid of it.  It was distinctly different from the WCW belt.

Anyone been reading this stuff that's been coming out about the WWE network?  Apparently, they want people to pay $25 a month.  You'll have access to 11 of the 12 PPVs (Wrestlemania is not included of course) and other WWE programming.  That one is going to be a real hard sell when you consider that HBO only costs $15 and they give you several channels as well.

#1007 Re: The Sunset Strip » The Following » 690 weeks ago

Anyone still watching this?  I'm on the fence about watching the rest of the year.  I don't really give a shit about the relationship between the three wannabe killers.  So that's been boring me whenever that is brought up.  The bigger problem is that the law enforcement in this series gets stupider by the week.  I'm still going to watch the next few epsiodes but they gotta stop the stupidity.  Either that or come up with some better plot lines where I can overlook the FBI/ local cops incompetence.

On a different note, The Americans is excellent and I'm looking forward to tonights EP.

#1008 Re: The Garden » 2012 NFL Season » 690 weeks ago

I could see Mingo as a 4-3 DE provided he put on some weight.  They used Kearse as a DE and he was at most 260 pounds or so.  Jones is strictly a 3-4 OLB/edge rusher.  I'd stick RB a little higher on the need list.  I think the Round 2 pick is pretty much a S or OG unless they sign one in FA.

It's hard to gauge Barkley's landing spot since he isn't participating in the combine because of his shoulder injury.  I think a lot of the QB shuffle will get clearer after the combine this weekend.  I think Tyler Wilson has a chance to move up.  I think Buffalo might take Nassib in round 2 and focus on WR.  I'm expecting Cordarelle Patterson to light up the combine and be taken within the top 15 picks or so.

It's really interesting to see where Chance Warmack ends up.  I'm not real sure the Titans take him at 10 since they've never taken guards high (last one was Munchack in 1983).  I'm not sure the other 9 teams have a big enough need to take him over say an OT either.

A Dolphins question for you, what's going on with Jake Long?  I've read that there's a chance that they could let him go via FA.  Franchise OT (or even very good ones) don't hit the market often.  Have his injuries derailed his play that much?  Someone is going to overpay for Sean Smith in FA (my guess the Bucs since they have a gazillion dollars and have said they need/want a CB), so he's gone.
They should make a play for Wallace, Bowe or Jennings to help Tannehill because it was painfully obvious that they lacked a WR who could get down the field and make plays.

I think KC takes Jockel with the first pick unless one of the QB's absolutely lights it up at the combine.

#1009 Re: The Garden » 2012 NFL Season » 691 weeks ago

The problem with the Titans signing Alex Smith is that a) they are run by morons b)they seem pretty hitched to Locker (at least for 2013).  They are also in win now mode (playoffs or every one gets fired).  I think it's a good idea I just don't trust the idiots running the organization in Tennessee.  I just think Smith can get better opportunites elsewhere probably in ARZ and maybe KC.  Scratch the Raiders as well, they're an even bigger mess than the Titans.  They just cut Seymour to get some cap space.  I don't think they cut Palmer but even they did I'm not sure signing Smith (who'll get paid, since decent qb's don't go on FA).

Still think Tennessee needs a LOT more (DE, S, interior OL, WR again) to even come close to sniffing the playoffs.  I'd rather them just tank and get one of the top 2 picks and pick Clowney or Bridgewater in 2014.  Either make the playoffs or TANK.  No more 6-8 win mediocre seasons.

Also PHI resigned Vick to a one year deal.  So that should preclude them from taking a QB in Round 1.  Probably going OT or Star Lotuleilei.

This has always been one of my favorite Slash songs.  Hope he plays it more often because this performance was great.
