#1031 Re: The Sunset Strip » The JAMES BOND 007 Thread » 705 weeks ago

Great post.

Most of my thoughts aren't that different, but I'll add in some comments.

Dr No. (1962)

Decent enough beginning.  Good mix of realism and action and adventure.  Probably gets a 7/10.

From Russia with Love (1963)  I loved the story for this one.  It doesn't hurt that Daniela Bianchi is super hot.  The train scenes get kinda ridiculous imo.  But I give it a pass since it's entertainment.  9/10

Goldfinger (1964)  Passable entertainment.  It isn't bad or anything but I think other Connery films have an extra layer of either drama or depth that this one doesn't have.  Qualifes as a popcorn film.  Great theme song though and that's probably one of the reasons that is so well liked.  7/10

Thunderball (1965)  I ended up dozing off on this one.  I didn't get into the story at all.  Probably my least favorite Connery one.  4/10

You Only Live Twice (1967)  Another meh Bond film.  I really don't remember it that well at all.  There were some neat gadgets at all but that was it.  They are starting to get predicatable and boring.  5/10

OHMMS--not seen yet

Diamonds are Forever (1971)  My second favorite Connery Bond film after From Russia with Love.  This is over the top but I really enjoyed it.  I absolutely loves the Las Vegas parts of the film.  Not much depth to the story but that doesn't really matter in a film like this.  8/10

Looking forward to the Moore film reviews!

That's the way it looked on TV, too.

Titans are just terrible. I think there's going to be a coin toss for the first pick next year: Chiefs and Titans.

Nah, Titans already have three wins and two more games with the Jags and another one with the Jets.  I think they end up with four wins.

Jags also have one victory as well.  I'd say they are more of a threat than TEN.

The annual "toilet bowl" game is on 12/9 Chiefs@Browns.  Loser has a heads up on the top draft pick.  Chiefs also play the Panthers the previous week.

Munchack will probably be fired by the Titans.  The old man (aka Bud Adams) already voiced his displeasure over the Bears buttkicking.

And I can't see them winning that many games given the absolutely shitty defense and suspect offense they continue to trot out.

I'd say he needs six wins to survive for next year.  And I don't think he gets it.  The more games that Hasselbeck starts the higher the chances for a loss.

It's going to be a very bloody coaching firing period.

Here are all the teams that could be looking for new head coaches:

PHI (Reid is a guaranteed goner)
CAR (Rivera might be gone, dependent upon team finish)
TEN
BUF (Gailey's out the door after busting with the high priced D)
NYJ (dependent upon finish)
DAL (not sure how likely it is Garrett is canned but the seat is warm)
SD (dep upon finish, Norv almost got canned last yr)
CLE (new owner + president=Shumer will be canned)
KC (can't see Crenel coming back after this season)
MIN (if they finish 5-11 it could be a possibility)
ARZ (unlikely but if Whiz ends up with 10+ losses after that start, it has to be considered)

The last two are just guesses but they could happen so I left them in there. I'd say PHI, KC, BUF and CLE are almost guaranteed to fire their coaches.  I could see SD rallying to get the last AFC spot and Norvell avoids the ax AGAIN.  Much to the chagrin of Chargers fans.

Yes, in California.  I thought you were joking about it.  But then I found this on another site:

Not really keen on the ending on the last episode.  But I'll have to wait and see how it all plays out before passing judgement.

This episode was kinda boring at least when compared to the rest of the season.  I really hope they kill off Quinn as his story has been boring the crap out of me.  Not as bad as Colin Hanks last year but I end up just watching for his scenes to be over.

The strong point is still the evolving Dexter and Debra relationship.

You'd be surprised at how many batshit insane people are running for public office in the states, just based on some of the looney shit that comes out of their mouths.

I know I'm retarded, but I still have faith in Ponder. His issues are not as bad as one may think when they look at his stats. Pocket presence needs to be fixed for sure. But it's hard to throw the ball when A) no one is open and B) outside of Harvin, we don't have any other noticeable WR's, mix that all in with a struggling O-Line and you get a crappy QB....

Now I'm sure I sound insane, BUT.....

Vikings STILL have a chance at a playoff berth [Insert Joke Here]

Eagles, Cowboys, Redskins, Panthers, Cardinals have all basically eliminated themselves from a playoff berth already which leaves us with:

Packers (will get 1st Wild Card)
Seahawks
Lions
Buccaneers
Vikings

For wild cards

Funny you should mention the OL, I remember one instance where Seahawks brought a blitz and Phil Loadholt absolutely blocked nobody.  I got a good laugh out of that one.

Remaining schedules:

SEA:

vs Jets, @Dolphins, @Bears, vs Cards, @Bills, vs 49ers, Vs Rams.

Tough games against Dolphins, Bears and Niners.

DET:

@Vikings, vs Pack, vs Texans, vs Colts,  @Pack, @Cardinals, vs Falcons, vs Bears.

This is a brutal fucking schedule with 7 of the 8 games against winning/playoff contending teams.  Should never have dropped that game against my shitty Titans.

TB

vs Chargers, @Panthers, vs Falcons, @ Broncos, vs Eagles, @Saints, vs Rams, @Falcons.

Mix of teams here.  Chargers, Panthers, Eagles and Rams should be easier games.  Falcons and Broncos and Saints are the tough games, although the Falcons game at the end might be easier since Atlanta might have clinched home field and won't play starters.

MIN:

Nov 11 vs DET
Nov 25 @CHI
Dec 2 @GB
Dec 9 vs CHI
Dec 16 @STL
Dec 23 @HOU
Dec 30 vs GB

Almost as difficult as Detroit.  The game vs Detroit might be a losers out game.   Play Chicago and GB twice along with a trip to Houston.  Although STL might be an easier game than anticipated.

Just purely looking at the schedules, Seattle is in very good shape.  Toughest game is at the Bears and they have a nice break where they get to face the Cards and Bills in back to back games.  And they end the season with 2 home games.  Tampa has the second easiest schedule here but they seem to be outscoring teams as opposed to stopping them.  Detroit and Minnesota have difficult schedules and will need to catch a break somewhere (upset by an also ran team).  Minnesota also lost to Seattle and Tampa so they'll need more help since they lose out on the head to head tiebreaker.

u guys seem p certain obama's gonna win. (atm anyway, after like, 11 votes). defo not the impression i get from the media, tho the message also seems to be about romney not able to get the 270 electoral votes.

just from history i wouldn't ever be surprised about who would win.
having said that tho, as a rational person w/only the slightest interest in this, it's just plain weird how close it is (& often is).

don't get me wrong, i find my own politicians just as laughable & contemptible, if not more so.
but what i love about the US election is the noise & razzmatazz it brings. it's like the oscars only a little more important & exclusive.

The US is divided which is why there will always be relatively close elections.  I'd say each side starts out with getting 45% support each (ie base voters) so the candidates are basically fighting over 10%.  And that makes most of these elections close.  Democrats usually nab the bigger more populous states (California, New York) and most of the east coast, while Republicans grab most of the Southern states and parts of the midwest.

I'm not exactly sure how it works in the UK, but there are also senate and US House seats up for grabs in these elections.  Those are important as well because if one party has control of one of those branches, they could make it difficult for the president.  Republicans control the House which makes it easier to block a lot of Obama's legislation.

The Republicans should have been able to pick up a few Senate seats since the Democrats are defending more of their seats but they have put out some flat out HORRIBLE candidates.

#1038 Re: The Garden » 2012 NFL Season » 706 weeks ago

Um, that was really embarrasing to watch today.  Titans looked like a bunch of fools today.  I expected them to lose but to at least put up a fight in the first half.  At least they got blown out early so I could do some other things today.

Only problem I might see with the Bears would be OL pass protection.

Doug Martin scored 4tds today vs the Raiders.  He also started for my FF team and got me 51 points.

Ponder played poorly today.  So much so that he got called out by one of the announcers on Fox.  2nd time in three weeks that he hasn't mustered up 100 yards passing.  That's very bad.  Too bad since AP had a fabulous day.

Lions won again.  Too bad Stafford didn't get any td passes.  I believe Seattle has the last playoff spot right now.  Green Bay probably has a head up on the first WC spot.  So I believe Seattle and Lions, maybe the Bucs fight it out for the last spot.

So who is going to win?

As a casual, distant outsider I can't understand why it's so close, or meant to be close. But yea is it really like 50/50 atm??

It isn't that close.  Romney closed the gap with the first debate performance but since then it has been all Obama.

Check the "swing state" polls, most of them have Obama ahead and he has a much better GOTV operation than Romney.

Obama has also been doing really well in early voting in several key states (like FL and NC).

I think Obama gets 300+ Electoral College votes and wins the popular vote by 3-5%.

I almost hate to pull this argument out but most of the media wanted a horse race and that's probably why the perception was that this race was close.  But if you tracked the "swing state" polls most of them showed Obama slightly ahead.

And he absolutely wiped out Romney in that 3rd debate on foreign which very few people probably.

Also, his path to reelection was a lot easier than Romney's path to election.

Angels decline Haren's option.  So he hits the FA market.  Red Sox were supposedly interested as well.  It works out for Haren as well, I think he should be able to get a multi year deal worth more than 15.5 million.

The Angels have more than enough money now to resign Greinke having shed 12 million from Ervin Santana's contract and now Haren's option.

Axilin, Hamilton reportedly wants a 7yr deal worth 175 million.  Don't know if the Cubs (or any club) will offer that given his off the field problems and the way Texas nosedived during the last week.
