Yeah, 2-2-1 is ultimately the best way. I never had a real problem with the old format. Don't know why they'd really change. Oh well, that's typical Bud Selig for you. He's probably the most stable of the major sports commissioners right now. NFL just had the referee fuckup/bountygate. The NHL is looking at another missed season due to labor issues.
There are a couple of really interesting division series that have a LCS feel to them. In the NL, I find SF-CIN very intriguing. I expect CIN to win but with the Giants starters you have to give them a chance.
And in the AL, Tigers-As. Do the young upstarts have enough to beat the older more experienced Tigers? I have a hard time picking a winner on this one. On the one hand, I almost always pick the small market team. On the other hand, the Tigers have a whole bunch of former Pirates. I think I going to side the As, since I don't think they've won a playoff series since 1990. I think Detroit's lack of range in the infield could play a major role in this one.
Tomorrow's Wild Card playoff game in the AL has the same feel/storyline. The experienced playoff tested team vs the upstarts/suprising team. I have to pick Texas only because they are at home.
Don't really care about any of the two NL teams fighting it out in the other wild card game. Rooting for Washington to beat whoever wins the game.
Manager Firing:
Bobby Valentine fired by Red Sox. Top choice of Boston is supposedly Toronto skipper John Farrell. They'll need to compensate Toronto if they want to hire Farrell.
Ozzie Guillen is supposed to be fired from the Marlins soon. I wonder if the Marlins have any interest in Bobby V again. They were interested before.
Jim Tracy might get the ax in Colorado.
The Cleveland job opened up before the end of the season. Terry Francona is interviewing this week or next week. Sandy Alomar Jr. (former Indians catcher) is the frontrunner.
I guess the Angels will keep Schoshia partially because he has a contract that runs through 2018.

Thought the start of RAW was great with Punk and Heyman, loved the spot with Mick Foley confronting Punk (Mick can still cut a tight promo) but Jesus, did the Cena angle just suck the life out of the show. It would have been cool to play up his injury that Punk did something to him and kept him off TV for a while. And why, oh why are they pushing the Goldberg knock off? Would it not have been awesome if, at the end, Punk turns around and finds Undertaker glaring at him? Make a Hell In A Cell match between Punk and Taker, bring in Lesnar to screw Taker over. Boom: Taker/Lesnar for WM. Build up Heyman's stable.
I've seen the Goldberg knock off and he gets zero heat from the crowd. I don't count people chanting "Goldberg" as any type of legit heat.
Can Taker work more than one match a year? They seem to be saving him up for Wrestlemania. This is where they should have just went with one of those fatal four way matches. Just dump in 2 or 3 wrestlers on the upper card and have them wrestle Punk. Hell, they could have dumped Bryan and Kane in there and have them continue their feuding partners storyline.

Isohunt is pretty good for general stuff.
I belong to a couple of private trackers as well.

If you're trying to be really understanding, the rules say that when it's a simultaneous catch the offensive player gets the catch. So, that's probably what the guy was thinking.
But did the offensive player ever have the ball (or come close to catching it), it seemed like he just tried to rip the ball out of the db's arm after the db established the catch(int).
If Ireland is fired, which I hope he is, and they bring in a new GM, I can't see them not making a play for Cowher. A lot of people don't know, but Fisher really wanted to come to Miami, but Ireland refused to give him control over draft picks, FAs and personnel, which is why he picked a guy who he could basically push around.
I think you're blaming the wrong guy here. Ross should be the target of your ire. He's the guy who refused to fire Ireland. They could have easily just hired some personnel guy (like STL did) and give Fisher full personnel powers.
Plus there are some other advantages that STL had. A far softer media market than media which is less likely to question Fisher's coaching moves.
I don't really see them firing Philbin unless they really tank. I'm talking 3 wins or less.
Miami just seems to be a 5-7 win team. That'll buy him another year probably.
Ireland will be gone. I liked the Vontae Davis trade though. Probably picked up a high second rounder with that trade. And they have another 3rd rounder from the Bears I think. It'll give the next GM decent draft and trade ammo.

buzzsaw wrote:To be fair, the regular refs probably blow that call too. It's virtually impossible real-time to call it and the replay by rule can't overturn it even if it clearly shows someone possessed it first based on what they said on TV.
I'd also say GB never scores a TD without help from the refs, so while this play gets all the attention, it is not why GB lost the game.
Why can't that play be overturned? If that's the case, why even review it? All questionable scoring plays are reviewed, and it was quite clear that it wasn't a TD. Therefore I don't see how it couldn't have been overturned.
That missed call clearly determined the outcome of the game. I know you love it, being a Bear fan. But that's truly embarassing.
Oh, and not to mention, the offensive PI that was missed on the play as well. Bottom line, the refs wanted to walk out of the stadium alive, so they called it a TD and stuck with it.
Yeah, what was the damn point of reviewing it if they couldn't reverse it. FWIW, I found the PI penalty on Shields when it was 1st and 35 far more horrible as Rice pushed off and Shields did nothing.

What an awful fucking call to end a game and give it to the Seahawks. They really need the regular refs back.
One guy (rightfully) calls an int. The other guy calls a TD. They go with the TD and GB loses.

There were close to 25 penalties in this game combined. Not only are most of the calls wrong, they're making this stuff unwatchable.

The whole thing with Harbaugh pissed me off. Pretty sure he knows the rules at this point, and he was totally taking advantage of the replacement officials.
For sure. A classless act by a sore loser, at that point it was very apparent that we had won the game
I thought that about him last year when he got into that little spat with Jim Schwarz over the handshake. The 49ers have a good team but I find Harbaugh to be far more annoying than his brother.
Darelle Revis out for the year with an ACL tear.
I can't believe the Saints are 0-3. I picked them in a survivor league and got KO'd since they lost. They look headed for a top 10 pick.
Not sure what to think about Lions-Vikings this week. From what I saw, the Lions secondary is very very suspect and if they're not getting pressure from the front four they are getting shredded.
And that explanation about the fourth down play still sounds dumb as hell. Somebody screwed up there I just don't know who.
#1068 Re: The Garden » 2012 NFL Season » 712 weeks ago
Can't complain about the Titans being boring this week. Five plays of 60+ yards for TDs. Giving up two touchdowns to the Lions in 38 seconds or so at the end of the game. Botching up the last hail mary play.
And of course the end of the game where Schwarz passed up the tying FG attempt for a forth down qb sneak only to have the QB fumble.
Chris Johnson is still a worthless POS and should be cut tomorrow.
I think you're underating Arizona though. Their defense is legit and Kolb didn't do anything stupid to cost them the game today. Vick is a turnover machine this year.
Only caught the end of both CBS late games. Houston almost blew the lead and Pittsburgh couldn't stop the pass in the 2 minute drill.
Bills are down to their 3rd string rb since Spiller got a shoulder injury.
It's funny how you can pick out the teams with the really garbage defenses.
WAS, TEN, DET, CIN, CLE, NO and maybe CAR have all suspect defenses at best.
The Vikings managed to upset the 49ers at home. And the replacement refs still suck.

Complete lack of focus and disciplin in Dallas and it's been that way since Parcells left.
They've been kind of like the Raiders of the NFC in that they always seem to shoot themselves in the foot with dumb penalties.
Bryant and Kenny Britt are similar WRs. Should be dominating but injures and off the field issues are major problems.
I have a feeling that The Rams are going to make a play for Barkley. Fisher has a hard on for all things USC, Bradford isn't his guy... They have a shitload of picks to work with. I think it could happen, especially if Bradford has a down year and gives them an excuse.
Replace the Rams with the Titans and I think this could happen especially if Adams cleans house. This team is the worst in the NFL. They've lost games by 21 and 28 points.
Locker's contract isn't really expensive at all since it got capped. That being said, I'm not sure they get the #1 overall pick. And I certainly don't want to sit through a miserable 2 or 3 win season.

The good news is that the bluray of the first film is being released on Nov 13. I haven't seen the first one since I saw it in the theater in 1989.
