Well alot of that can be contributed to the fact there are downright factions among GN'R fans, multiple ones.
I guess that happens when you have 75 different versions of a band, and everyone of them has their own following, feeling they are the superior version, ranging from albums to songs to memorable performances to the little performance they just happened to show up to, etc.

my theory wouldn't change the number of posts but the content. and if "we all knew that" there wouldn't be so many arguments. the gnr fan base is one of the most divided groups of people i have ever come across and in every debate there is plenty of praise that get's left behind in place of putting down the opposite team's horse. i enjoy a friendly debate as much as you or anyone else but there's a lot of qualities in the gnr tree that many have to split the tree in half in order to see clearly.

it is art.
sure there is music theory that tells us what sounds out of key but it is the artist that thinks out of the box that stands out the most, sometimes for the good and sometimes for the bad.
to write a song is a talent
to learn another person's song is a completely different talent
and to take a pre-existing creation and make your own interpertation like gnr did with 'Live and Let die is a little bit of both
modern music is more about attitude and creativity then it is about musical ability as opposed to learning a classical piece from beethoven, note for note.
so, taking the person who covers the music to a tee, the question then becomes "Who is better?

the answer is neither.
It's art. it all comes down to opinion and preference.
Slash kills on Nightrain and he wrote it.
Buckethead kills live on nightrain and he came up with a completely different interpretation of the song.
two completely different abilities and two completely different creations that please and displease two completely different and independent groups of listeners. to the point of a debate on a gnr board that resembles an argument i witnessed between my four year old and his friend the other day.

You're telling me. But that's commonplace for GNR fans. We don't get much information so all we can do is speculate. Who knows why rehearsals lasted so long? I would assume DJ auditioned for a bit before they decided on him and I would think they heard something they liked before they made their decision. So I wouldn't say that it's his fault they've had to rehearse so long and he sucks and he can't play the material. I think they would've been able to figure that out in the auditions.
Just as was the case with the YEARS leading up to the release of Chinese Democracy, we don't know the half of it. But continue to speculate, some fascinating theories.
I'm not convinced we know for sure exactly when rehearsals began and ended or what took place. Knowing axl, they could be re-recording old shit or recording new shit. also, the preparations for the rumored world tour would naturally be drastically different than for the stroll they took in '06. although i wasn't there, i'm comfortable assuming that dj physically auditioned for the band and i'm sure that included playing some original gnr material. regardless of what axl's current plans are, i gotta assume he wouldn't hire dj if he couldn't cover any gnr material. besides, slash's work is not that difficult to cover for a hack and fink's parts are even easier. i have a hard time believing that a pro like dj is holding things up because he can't learn the material.
