I was excited for the return of TWAT because I love the song.
Sadly, Axl's voice is really destroyed on it.
The difference between the 2009 screams and what he did at Slane is drastic.
To me this is the reason why recording should be a priority. On his "on" nights - such as Houston Tx 2016 - and the Axl/Dc shows - Axl can still sound amazing - on the right songs etc - I believe this could be done in the studio too where they can fix any issues.
But I'm not sure his voice has another 5+ years to wait for them to get around to new music.
At least there's a few older songs like silkworms with old vocals ready to go. But they need to hit the studio and soon and capture what is left.

It seemed so much more innocent to me the other times I heard it. But ever since I have really heard the darkness underlying 90% of his stuff.
This is how i'm finding it too. I always knew there was some emotional and dark stuff in his songs but it just hits you like slap now. It's hard to divorce this outcome from the music. I guess in time it will be - like we can listen to famous composers of the past without worrying about their deaths...but at the moment...every second lyric stands out to me...it's very emotional.

I don't want this to sound like a cash grab statement, just more obvious... They know a new single would bring in a lot of money with little effort. If MSL is right then Slash and Duff didn't rerecord existing music for nothing. I'd expect something, but not really invested much to care if it doesn't.
I'd love a new single. Hopefully it will eventually happen - it would seem odd to have all those old tracks lying around half done and not make the most of the situation and throw slash and duff on them. Especially stuff where Axl vocals are already done eg Silkworms etc. Hopefully it happens eventually.

That right there could be a good reason. So far they're hitting areas for the first time on tour. The US dates are their second time around, so they probably will need to hype those up a bit more than the first time when the shows sold themselves.
I agree but it's clear this hype is off target.
Like why all the talk of single releases and album releases and the dates songs were written when....then going on about more to come...when your announcement is not about anything of the sort.
Not to mention this is a USA tour but these videos and the wait for them attracted the entire international fanbase...
Would have made more sense to hype up how good the first legs of the NITL tour were, how well received, ticket sales and sold out shows etc...
I have no problem with them hyping the tour and doing more shows but this was terribly executed.

I guess my thing is - the video is disproportionate to the announcement.
Like you post a video:
XXXX - You're born
XXXX - Wife born
XXXX - First Date
XXXX - Epic Holiday Together
XXXX - Engagement
XXXX - Wedding
XXXX - Honeymoon
XXXX - first child born
XXXX - massive job promotion
XXXX - second child born
But there's more to come.....then in 2 days time you reveal:
10 weekends this year we will have dinner out!!!

Is there a link to that one?

Obviously the mistake was mine to expect something, but I just feel the nature of outlining so much stuff about the history of the band and in particular details of album and single releases to that extent was somewhat misleading...when you consider how its sort of unusual to do a reunion with out a comeback single..and the history of GNR having works in the vault etc....
It's cool they're doing more shows...but I just feel the nature of that promo train made it seem like they had a more significant surprise up their sleeve than a 4th leg of a tour....and the 2nd time around this tour in the USA.....sort of a fuss about nothing when you consider they didn't do this much hype for the asia or europe dates etc.

I mean yeah....some comments and actions made it appear like hell would freeze over before it would happen but on the other hand, it was clearly obvious that all that was required to get it going was one phone call, which most assumed had to come from Slash.
It actually makes sense to me that it was Axl who reached out though.
I mean other than slash making the occasional 'singers' joke at Axl's expense, and flat out saying he thought late starts and cancelations are disrespectful to fans, there was never much of a sense of anger from Slash, I always got the feeling he was waiting to deal, he just wanted some respectful terms.
Axl on the other hand was out there with statements like this:
"There's zero possibility of me having anything to do with Slash other than by ambush, and that wouldn't be pretty" - 2009
It always needed to be Axl who chilled out about it.
My mistake was taking him at his word that he never would!!! hahah!
The tragic part of this story to me is that the 2005 visit didn't result in a reunion then.
We would have CD with Slash and the best from Slash's subsequent albums with Axl.
And many boots of the band before Axl's current vocal state.
Not to be I guess.

I just want to say....
Sure we all knew we were most likely in for disappointment or the minimum again.
However...lets be honest..
Rewind 10 years and I was one of the people (like others here) desperately waiting for Chinese Democracy to come out and there was a chorus of naysayers informing me that the past 10 years demonstrated that the album would NEVER BE RELEASED
Rewind 5 years and there were people here desperately calling for a reunion, and there was a chorus of people (including me) saying that the previous 15 years of history and Axl had said it would NEVER HAPPEN.
Here we are in 2017 and I have a couple of physical copies of Chinese Democracy and I just went and saw Axl and Slash onstage together.
Yes GNR fans are used to being disappointed, and the safest best is usually to assume the band will do as little as possible, however, history also shows that long term predictions of impossibility are wrong.
Given the promos they posted, that they have 2-3 albums semi done for nearly 20 years, that they've been reunited for a year or two now, and that this cycle is wearing to a close, it wasn't as far fetched as people are making out that something happened. Only as far fetched as this reunion itself was 3 years back.
