Temper tantrums over this announcement is another case of a fanbase reading too much between the lines, setting up themselves for disappointment and expecting something that has n`t been promised.
Your right.
It's absurd to think a professional music act would be able to or have desire to release more than 1 album in a 25 year timeframe.
It also makes perfect sense to highlight the release dates of their other albums in a teaser video to launch the 4th leg of this tour and to tell everyone there's a big surprise on the horizon.
It's clearly the fans at fault.

Since 1987 there's been 8 leap years.
We could have been fans of Feb 29th.
It would be more rewarding

I think the negative reaction to this announcement was due to the video teasers and their content. You recount the bands entire history just to say you are doing some arena shows in cities they played last year? Kind of implied it was something bigger than that.
Exactly...it cites the most important moments in the band's history..the pivotal times when the story of this band unfolded...and implied we were soon to hear of a new key event.....
only to discover it's just another leg of the current tour. Not pivotal...not even really that surprising.
Harmless rookie marketing mistake in itself.....but then when you consider how the band has been one of the most anti-prolific and dysfunctional artists in history and how starved for content the fanbase is.....

It's not that they have to do anything.
It's that it's hard to be a fan of something that literally wastes almost any opportunity. Like what is there to engage us? Seriously at this point I can take up almost any hobby, and there's more content.
Like I'm honestly asking myself what is there to be a fan of now.
They toured essentially the same show around the world for 15 years.
They released one new record in the past 26 years.
They blocked every chance of a reunion for literally decades, thwarted their own interests countless times, only to do the absolute minimum now.
It seems like the only motivation to even get back together now is that Axl waited so long that his abilities were starting to wane.
I'm fine with musicians making money but it would be nice if it was at least slightly less cynical but the whole organisation literally holds people who enjoy their products in contempt.
Then once again...they forfeit the chance to use their abilities to create some art in order to reenact a tour they did 25 years earlier..except now lacking vitality, creative energy, or any kind of integrity it seems. I wish they'd read this and tell me to fuck off...just because the anger might make them feel alive enough to actually make some art again.
I'm not angry.
I'm just finding myself following something with no product and content.
I love their music, I've loved it and followed it closely for 30 years. But it doesn't evolve, there's never anything fresh.
The band would say it was my fault, and perhaps it is, I actually regret getting into GNR as a hobby now because it's been so unrewarding. I wish i'd spent this precious time in my life engaging with some other interest. Something where there is enough content to justify fandom, and something with some respect and integrity.

Come on you negative mothertruckers...
Sure they missed releasing a 20th Anniversary AFD Edition, and it seems will also miss a 30th Anniversary Box Set.
Sure it's nearly 10 years since Chinese Democracy, which was released 15 years after a cover album.
The biggest opportunity is yet to come.
In around 16 months time it will be the 20th Anniversary of Silkworms.
I think this may be the moment for the band - a single release with a B side for fans of the original Pitman version before Melissa.
No more listening to 20 second grabs or bootlegs of bootlegs.
Silkworms is at hand in just 16 more short months.

I'm hoping for AFD30 edition with a new song and a tour to match.
I'd really like a new album but i'm trying to keep my expectations down. hahah.
#1187 Re: Guns N' Roses » FORTUS: 'I Don't Think This Band Has Ever Sounded Better...' » 468 weeks ago
I think Fortus meant Axl sounds the best he has since he (fortus) has been in the band. Not far from the truth.
I don't agree with that either.
He doesn't sing "Live and Let Die" with the power he did in 2002.
He doesn't do KOHD with the kind of power he did in 2006.
He didn't hit the high notes in TWAT like he did in 2009.
Fortus was in the band all of those tours. I guess it's just his personal opinion.
I don't mean to be an asshole, the guy is getting old, and he sounds great anyway because he's Axl. But it's NOT the best he has ever been.
He DOES sound better than he did in 2012-2014, which was a low point.
However it's hyperbole to say they've never been better.

Axl has never sounded better
I like fortus and enjoy the current band a lot but that's just not true.

I agree with wagzilla....they're not going to add new GNR and/or current GNR to any old remaster/box set/whatever. There's less than zero reason to do it.
But then what is the hook for the new tour? Maybe if they change the setlist to the whole of AFD or something? There need to be able to return to the same tour markets with a fresh show/product. I figure a new song does it easily. Plus you could always add in a CD song and package it with AFD to annoy purists.
