Looks like it's Brain between Frank and Melissa in the soundcheck video. My guess is that they have kept his drum track on the studio version (obviously from a later version than the one on the Village discs, if it's Oklahoma) so he's been there to help them with the live arrangement (basically to show Frank how to play it). That is probably necessary as it's a more complex song than Absurd.

On another (unrelated?) note, Brain was in Brazil with them a few days ago (Dizzy posted a video of him with Brain and Melissa on Instagram) and he's probably still there.

I saw your suggestion over there to hit the pause button on this for a month or so. I agree.

Even if something is brewing,  we're not helping. Spotify went from zero feedback from the hardcore base to a minor flood. Even on a small scale....it has to trigger something in its system.

It went from giving us Atlas Shrugged at the beginning to Cats in the Cradle now.

Something is askew.

If this has hit the fans on social media, it's going to get worse. It'll soon pull in Motley Crue songs because Axl wanted to fight him once...or even Tom Petty due to Free Falling at the VMAs.

I don't think Cats in the Cradle means anything - it could be happening for a long time, but we hadn't noticed it because we weren't looking. That and Every Rose Has Its Thorn (and even Bed of Roses) have been mistaken for GN'R songs by thousands of people over the years, so many may have searched them typing "cats in the cradle guns n roses". Plus, Spotify suggests "related artists" and auto-generates related playlists, so it probably treats Poison and Ugly Kid Joe as related artists to GN'R.

On the other hand, other songs (released and unreleased) that are really associated with GN'R in some way don't give any results. For example, Crash Diet returns only the two other bands that have recorded it - it isn't really a GN'R song, but what matters is that many people consider it such and one would think that at least a few GN'R fans have searched for it or added the other bands' versions in their playlists, or even have the demo in local playlists. The two solo songs Bumblefoot performed with GN'R don't show up either, although one was on an official GN'R release (Appetite for Democracy) - not even Bumblefoot himself showed up when I searched for "objectify" and "abnormal". Yet, Ballad of Death shows up.

It's very hard to figure out and draw a conclusion. But there are some clues that are rather damning. Like, that Silkworms returned GN'R last year after Absurd was released, and that doesn't happen now, so it could be because people were searching for it then but stopped later.

So it's pointless to continue searching now, since it's possible that we're causing all this ourselves. And if we haven't forgotten all about it in a month, we can check it out again and see if any of these titles are still there.

Off topic, but on the liner notes of the AFD 30th anniversary box set, the last line of writing credits says “November Rain writing by Slash, Duff McKagen, W.Axl Rose, and Izzy Stradlin”. I thought that was interesting. Any insight why this is now a group effort and no longer just W.Axl Rose?

I have given an explanation here:

Oklahoma suggests GN'R in Sweden now (confirmed with VPN).

This looks like a red flag, because by 2008, according to Axl, the (working) title had been changed to "Berlin". However, it's not unlikely that he went back to the older title later (e.g. because he intended to write new lyrics for "Berlin" but he never did or they didn't work).

Yeah...I'm not going to hit the panic button yet. The song was inspired by the OKC bombing and the court dates...it seems logical to go back to it if you're gonna do something with it.

The red flag songs for me are Prom Violence and Quick Song....and the Bucket songs Dub Suplex and Devious Bastard. Someone might try to make a case for their inclusion...but I'm not buying it. In the case of Dub Suplex, it was used later on by Bucket.

If those songs appear....

I agree. The biggest red flag of all would be Going Down, especially since it seems that Tommy has now gotten it back from GN'R - and, of course, if "Berlin" popped up too.

But it's mostly that part of me just doesn't want to see Oklahoma as a red flag. Of all the leaked and rumoured songs Oklahoma is the one I want to hear a completed version the most - that and State of Grace. And the history of Oklahoma, with its roots going back to the mid-90s, makes this song even more intriguing and appealing for me.

Does anyone still have that 105 page PDF that the Chairman leaked? That's where the info came from.

Word to the wise...

Never delete any leaks because you never know when you might want a second look.

When looking through the list on metal sludge, I got a laugh out of this...

Edit

We had a thread on it here but it's mostly just people asking for PMs...

Thanks! Yeah,I remember downloading that pdf document and reading through it, so I have it somewhere. But I take all this "insider" information with a big grain of salt...

Oh yeah, I have seen those somewhere, but I thought that the alleged email about Duff was from 2009 (?)

I think it was. I'm pretty sure that leak contained all of that stuff over the years compiled into one folder.

It also included all the song titles for a potential second album.

Found the list:

https://web.archive.org/web/20211111082 … c/?p=33504

The emails in it that were (allegedly) about Duff (doesn't look to me that there were referring to 2006):

014. October 2009 Axl email to Bumblefoot about Duff rejoining
075. October 2009 Axl email about Duff wanting back in and people wanting Tommy out (part 1)
076. October 2009 Axl email about Duff wanting back in and people wanting Tommy out (part 2)
077. October 2009 Axl email about Duff wanting back in and people wanting Tommy out (part 3)

I don't think Duff was close to going back in 2006. The 2005-2006 reunion affair was mostly a Slash thing and maybe Duff was dragged into it for a little while.

But after VR broke up Duff started sending friendly messages to Axl through interviews (although he had always been diplomatic, his public comments became noticeably and considerably reconciliatory after 2008) and then Axl kind of responded in early 2009 with "Slash is a cancer, but Duff can join us on stage if he wants."

Probably Duff started consciously working towards a GN'R reunion when he realized that Slash was not willing to put VR back together with a new singer (Slash was basically the reason VR didn't find a singer because he rejected them all). And then there was that "coincidental" meeting with Axl in London in 2010.

Why did MTV turn KOHD at the Ritz into a video? Also...that video hit their charts!

A new KOHD video...even one without the band in it...was guaranteed to chart...on Hard 60, the top 20 requests, Dial MTV, and of course would be on Headbangers Ball.

Remember...they are the biggest band in the world in 1990 even though they have no album and are not on tour. Everything they did was big news....Farm Aid, Civil War, and of course this song appearing in the film/soundtrack.

Every single GNR video was in heavy rotation... except this one released during a year fans were dying for a video.

This doesn't add up. Are we sure this isn't some sort of hoax created years ago that didn't gain traction?

I agree it is quickly thrown together. Whatever happened, they are on a deadline.

It almost feels fan made...which goes back to this being a potential hoax.

We need more info on its release.

It looked genuine to me (and it seems it is, based on what slashfro said), that's why I posted it. It's definitely sourced from a VHS and from the first few seconds it looks like it was recorded from MTV Europe.
