#1191 Re: Guns N' Roses » Guns N' Roses Names Dj Ashba As Band's Newest Axeman » 895 weeks ago
Axlin08,
Your point about GN'R becoming a modern rock radio band is an interesting one. I can tolerate that style of rock if the voice is great. I fucking hate Nickelback because of Kroeger's annoying ass voice. Shinedown is one of the few modern rock bands that I enjoy and it's because of the guy's voice. Likewise with Disturbed. Put Axl with a modern rock radio style similar to Nickelback and I'd almost be able to tolerate it because of his voice.
i can't tolerate your avatar
that movie was horrible

There was a radio rumour I read somewhere of a big US tour announcment tomorrow. I wouldnt be suprised if its the GNR VH North America tour, the rumours were correct about Ashba.
they announced the metallica tour on 93x minneapolis this morning.
i'm guessing that was it.

gnr paved the way for these new bands by releasing real, kick ass, and in-your-face rock n roll and then submitted the thrown when they started making epic videos for songs like November Rain and hiring horn sections to play their tours. some people just got burnt out on the theatrics and complications and moved on to 'Enter Sandman and 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Disagree. Fad they released UYI I in 91 and UYI II in 93-94, I think nothing would have changed. In fact, I think you could make a case that they'd have sold more.
Fad?

right james - i'm 33 and know exactly what you are talking about....
gnr was labeled "uncool" by people who didn't like the direction they went with the illusion albums.
just cause you guys didn't see it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
I think this started before the grundge push and then that came and finished the job.
they lost the underground base first and then the mainstream.

seems to me that you're both right. There were pockets or separate groups of people that labeled gnr "uncool". misterid and i were asoociated with one. axlin and bono were not.

i've hated every version of KOHD except the '88 version

so I would love to hear a new version far removed from what the most recent versions have sounded like.

IMO Guns N Roses started becoming "Uncool" when Metallica and their black album started selling out. The grunge era was just another dent in the armor.

Yeah, but he's referring to the single being promoted with the timing of the Slash tirades.
Sort of like, "Slash is a cancer and he can fuck off, and this new song just released sums up my opinion better than these fan chats and Del interviews ever will". Granted, there was little interest in those Slash tirades and it had even started some fan backlash, but there might have been a bit more casual interest in this aspect and it certainly would have at least caused the track to chart somewhere on Itunes.
Even IF the song isn't about Slash, he could have used it as a marketing gimmick.
WOW! You read my mind.
I feel so dirty.

i've said a lot of things from day one and watched others get karma for posting the same thing two weeks later while my original post goes unnoticed
