Do you think it is possible that a band's manager would ever say something that was false in order to make his client look better?

Sure but if Pitman fucked it up why did Axl do nothing about it for 8 years?

Pitman was the person who stole copyrighted work for Riad and GNR/Axl ended up in a lawsuit as a result. Pitman was never sued for that but now that he is suing Axl, it wouldn't surprise me if Axl brings up this issue in court.

Interesting point....although you'd think if there were going to be repercussions for pitman over that they would have happened before the 2009-2014 tours.

Also....the management seemed to imply they were given samples by a producer and believed they had been cleared by the label...so it might not be pitmans error.

“The band believed when the record came out and still believes that there are no unauthorized samples on the track. The snippets of ‘ambient noise’ in question were provided by a member of the album’s production team who has assured us that these few seconds of sound were obtained legitimately. Artists these days can’t read the minds of those they collaborate with and therefore are unfortunately vulnerable to claims like this one. While the band resents the implication that they would ever use another artist’s work improperly and are assessing possible counterclaims, they are confident this situation will be satisfactorily resolved.”

I know!!! I think it's one of the closest "fake slash" renderings I've heard too - the whole thing is disturbingly close to how a CD vocal track added to a slash riff might sound!!

#1264 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl and Duff interview » 504 weeks ago

It's cool but it's not GNR - Chesney says its a demo he made 3 years ago. See the end of the video I posted above and he admits it.

They're very cool though!! But it's not GNR.

#1265 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl and Duff interview » 504 weeks ago

Are you talking about this?

If so it is not GNR, but a very good imitation by these guys. I love the song - great solo in Slash's style - bit like Back off Bitch and a very nice Axl-esque vocals. But it's not really GNR. There's a thread where the songwriters post about it on MyGnr. smile

Even though it's not GNR though I dig it!

Frankly, although I never wanted pitman around,  I think Axl's in the wrong on this one.

If you're going to have people in the band as employees not partners then they have to be paid. You cant take the profits for yourself in the good times and then say "we're all in this together" and expect freework in the hardtimes.

It doesn't matter if it's a job we don't want him to do or if he's a dick, he did the time, he gets his money.

As for there being a nicer way to claim it than a lawsuit, everyone knows you piss off the wrong people in GNR and you get a wall of silence. I'm guessing this was the best way to have your phonecall actually returned.

From memory that book about the groupie suggested that Dizzy had not always been paid on time either. Seems maybe Axl's team isn't the best at cash flow management. Hell, even back in the UYI days there's a lot of stories about unnecessary expenses and so on.

You'd imagine it would be cheaper to just settle this with pittman than fight here though.

Interesting. I remember MSL's documents/emails leak from many years back alleged unpaid debts to other band members as well.

Suggests that there may be financial mismanagement to have cash flow problems of this kind.

Also makes the reunion look more about being able to accept big offers from promoters.

Personally I don't care about Izzy being there AT ALL but I don't think it's as simple as you make out.

$99k is rubbish money if the other people of your vintage in the band are bringing home millions.

As the article says - I can see both sides - He doesn't need money if it's going to be an offensive figure, and they don't need to give up millions to have him there - so we have the status quo.

But to be honest if I was Izzy i would have rejected that deal too.

Interview with Jimmy Ashhurst

Q: Why the Ju Ju Hounds disbanded? You had already recorded two songs (Memphis and Good Enough) that finally included on the next solo album of Izzy ...

A.  Those two songs were taken from the last time the Ju Ju Hounds recorded in a room together- at Caribbean Sound Basin, Maraval, Trinidad. That was when Izzy left us there. We weren’t quite finished with the 2nd album…all he had to do was sing it. There were a lot more songs. I’ve been trying to find the answer to that question for 22 years.
