It's surprising they didn't have this planned out like a month ago. I'm starting to think the Punk fan popularity surge really caught them off guard. Espcecially seeing how fast they put Cena back into the title hunt and took Punk completely out of it. No matter, a Nash/Punk feud sounds good to me, once they get their angle down and they know where they're going. It was just messy the other night. And Punk could really make Nash shine in the ring. Could make him look like the monster from the mid 90's again.

And I'm really starting to think the lame "Cena had his foot on the rope" was the only way Cena would agree to job to Punk twice. It really made no sense.

The problem is that they usually overwrite and have 4 or 5 different scenarios written out for Raw.  I remember reading a few weeks ago that they originally wanted HHH to come out and lay out CM Punk with a pedigree in order to emphasize HHH new role as COO.

I think CM Punk is so over right now that unless this angle goes completely into the toilet, he'll come out of it with his heat intact.  Too bad Sean Waltman is unlikely to wrestle (he has Hep C or B) as he could probably put up a good match with Punk.

As long as the mystery person who hired Nash isn't John Laurenitis I'm fine with it.  Johnny Ace has no personality at all.

The Cena crap that annoyed me was when he came out and whined about Del Rio cashing in MITB.  Um, almost everyone else who has cashed that thing in has done it after the champion has been beaten down.  It's the smart thing to do.

Ok. So I saw the opening to Raw and forgot to tune back in later to see what developed.

I went to a few wrestling sites and read what happened on the end of Raw. Am I wrong or is the "HHH Taking Over" angle not that big of a deal?? As I said, I only read up on it, so maybe it was far more exciting to watch then it sounds?

I watched the entire show on Monday and it was actually pretty good except for the ending.  Out of the two WWE wrestling shows, RAW has the least amount of wrestling.  So it was refreshing to see a show that focused on mainly wrestling and not that sportz entertainment crap.  RAW has been unwatchable for a long time.

I guess the end isn't a big deal because I've seen it before.  WWE ownership storylines have always been kind of boring to me.  Cena gave a pretty good promo there at the end and it's kind of wasted with that boring HHH-Vince confrontation at the end.  That and HHH will probably come back and give another boring 20 minute promo to start the show next week.

On a positive note, the Money in the Bank PPV was quite good.  Another thing--those CM Punk t-shirts that were sold at the PPV have been going for insane prices on ebay.   Some guy on another site sold a CM Punk shirt on ebay for $510.  I asked him how much he bought the shirt for at the arena and he said $30.  He was going to keep it too but you can't turn down that much profit.

Romeo is Bleeding.  Pretty interesting film.  First half is a bit slow but it picks up during the last hour or so.  Gary Oldman gives a great performance, it's a bit more restrained than his role in Leon.  Lena Olin is absolutely nuts in this film.  It's a thriller although I thought it could have been seen as a drama or love story too.

nice post...we don't know Axl's agenda and I think that is what is most frustrating for his fans. We have his Malibu Mafia trying to talk for him every now and then. But, we never really get a clear picture from the man himself as to what his personal goals are.:/

is it right to assume from his silence that he doesn't really care too much? is happy to let things carry on in the manner they have been?

what exactly is the problem with releasing new material?
is it getting it recorded? is it label involvement & the bitter rancour it stirs in axl? is it axl's lack of confidence/indecision?
like has been mentioned  in the prev two posts there is a host of cracker covers GnR could release as an EP over itunes next week & gain a bit of momentum & goodwill w/o axl having to expose himself too much..

what did axl mean exactly when he said CD wasthe album that was able to be pushed thru 'the red tape'? is there a host of legal hurdles in the way before they can release new material?

as always, there are hundreds of options availible to axl/GnR to get a bit of goodwill/momentum going again for the b(r)and but it's really just more of nothing happening until they get on stage @ RiR..

I just don't think the guy enjoys recording (and releasing) music anymore.  I think it is sort of combination of all of the above as you mentioned.

At some point (I'd say late 1990s-early 2000s) he was genuinely interested in restoring the GNR brand after the original guys all split.  But then after Bucket left, most of the activity pretty much stopped.  Maybe he needs to find another guitar player that inspires him to write and record music again.

I guess at this point in his life he is content with where things are, which means sporadic touring playing mostly the hits of 1987-1993, and staying at home at the Malibu compound.

What year was this film released?  I searched on imdb and found several titles under torture.

It was released in 2010  : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0907305/plotsummary

I finally watched this the other day and I don't think it deserves a 0/10.  Granted it is shitty and cheesy as hell but there were several unintentionally hilarious scenes.  Probably gets a 1 or 1.5/10.

I laughed out loud when the two brothers started fighting near the top of the tree while trying to evade the killer boars who were driven wild because of the infected bad fertilizer produced by the company.

The cellphone going off was really funny.  Especially in that one scene where Nathan "hides" underneath a dead carcass and the thing goes off.  The cellphone rang several times during the film and those guys have to be real morons to not be able to set a cellphone on silent or vibrate function.

There was another funny scene near the end where Daniel tries to attract the attention of the killer beasts by sticking his bloodied hand through the crack of the floor.

I've always liked this version of November Rain.  The fact that it was the last show of the original era lineup makes it even sadder.

In The Electric Mist

I recently watched a surprisingly good movie, called 'In The Electric Mist', a 2008/09 DTV murder mystery movie with Tommy Lee Jones & John Goodman. It was one of those 'borrowed from a friend'-type things, and I wasn't expecting much. Honestly my first reaction was - "how good could it be, it wasn't even released in theaters". Considering Tommy Lee Jones, I figured it was a bad movie hidden away on DVD, because of it's awfulness.

I was flat out blown away at how much it WASN'T that. It was suprisingly good. It reminded me of No Country For Old Men, had it been done in swampy, bayou Louisana, rather than dusty Texas. Action, Tommy Lee Jones as a southern Sheriff, John Goodman as a pimp, Confederate ghosts, and lots of twists n' turns... it's got it all.

Not the greatest movie ever made, but definitely worth at least one watch. It's good.

I saw this a while back and it was ok.  I liked Jones and Goodman and the soundtrack as you said but I wished it was a bit longer as I remember some plots that were left unanswered.  Anyway, the DVD that was released in the US was a producers cut and not the directors cut which had a longer run time.

If you enjoyed the story, this is actually adopted from a novel by James Lee Burke who has written a series of novels that involve the Tommy Lee Jones character.

watched a bunch of films lately

Tell Me Something 2/10  Saw this Korean film on Netflix and this bored the shit out of me.  A lot of time is just wasted by scenes just having the cops standing around and talking.  The pace of this thing is lethargic.  The ending doesn't make a lot of sense.  Only thing that stops me from giving it a 1 is that there were a couple of good scenes and that's it. Side Note:  I thought the lead actor looked familiar, so I looked at his name on imdb, turns out he was in a much better Korean film called White Night which I watched.

Arang--another Netflix korean title.  This one was actually interesting.  It's a combo ghost/thriller film.  The atmosphere is pretty good here.  Some parts  creeped me out.  Could have been longer 6/10

Back to the Future Trilogy:

Back to the Future--This one is probably my favorite of the 3.  Combines some interesting ideas with two great performances by Lloyd and Fox.  8/10

Back to the Future II--Much better than when I saw it in the theater about 22 years ago.  I understood the plot a lot better and it bookends with the first film well at least on the topic of time travel.  Elizabeth Shue was a downgrade from the actress who played Jennifer in the first BTTF.  7/10

Back to the Future III--Loved this when I saw this as a kid but when I watched it today, it didn't really do anything for me.  It's not bad or anything I just think that most of the issues in the film were kinda covered by the first two installments.  Marty pretty much takes a backseat toward the Doc-Clara romance storyline. 5/10

This is actually an interesting discussion point.  While both parents died, the fate of the girl remains ambigious.  I happen to think that he actually killed her because he couldn't really afford to leave any loose ends behind despite what he said.  I mean he had already injured her and showed no remorse doing that.  Also Erica had suffered psychological trauma because of her childhood event and I think that Nate wouldn't want this girl to suffer the same fate.  He probably doesn't want her hunting after him either when she grows up.

#1269 Re: The Sunset Strip » Van Halen to record new album with Roth » 778 weeks ago

Good to see that this looks like it's finally going to see the light of day.  It was sort going into Chinese Democracy territory with all the rumors and all.

Regarding the album, depends what type of playing style EVH is doing on this one.  If it's the 5150 and OU812 style where it shifts toward the slower stuff then I probably wouldn't like it.  If it's closer to the older stuff or even 3 (vocals were the problem on that album) I think I might be pleasantly surprised.

I saw X-Men: First Class yesterday. It was damn good, right up there with X2 as the best X-Men movie. Fassbender and McAvoy both gave great performances.

Saw it last week and thought it was a good film.  I'd add in Kevin Bacon too in the great acting performances category.  Too bad I didn't care for the rest of the X-Men outside of the main two.  I don't think they were given enough material or the actors  just weren't very good.  January Jones is awful.  I've seen two films with her in them this year and she was very bland in both of them.

Oh yeah, the cameo was very cool and all of the people in the theater cracked up when they saw it.

Red White & Blue- GREAT film. About a young promiscuous woman with HIV and these guys she meets. One wants to be her friend and develops a platonic friendship with her. When the shit eventually hits the fan, to say this guy gets pissed off would be the understatement of the decade. The film moves at a slow pace but that makes the third act even more shocking. Cant believe this film didn't get more attention last year.

7/10

I'm glad you mentioned this film.  It was available to download and I passed it over because it didn't look too appealing.  I saw your review and went over to Netflix and saw that it was streaming there and watched it.

The first two parts are slow but not at an unreasonable pace.  I think it was pretty interesting that in the first part (focused on Erica) that they showed her sitting in a swing and that she still sleeps with a stuffed animal.  That reinforced to me that she still had the aftereffects/psychological trauma from when she was raped as a child.  I thought the first minute of the film was great since there was only the piano music playing.

I also liked the second part where they focused on Frankie and his mother who had the cancer.  I don't think the movie would have worked as well if that relationship hadn't been as developed.  I think he went batshit after she overdosed on pills after he told her that he had given her blood that was HIV infected.

Questions:  Did she have sex with more than one member of the band?  I could have sworn that she had sex with the bassist or drummer too but I think Frankie got unlucky as he was the only one who got HIV.

If they had just driven her to the hospital, and dropped her off, could she have been saved?  I think it's quite ironic that the restraunt manager (I think that was his job) who is the mature of the gang ends up making the decision not to take her to the hospital.

You're right about the third act, it is quite shocking.  I had seen a couple of screenshots beforehand and saw that someone had their mouth taped.  So I wasn't really suprised when Frankie went psycho.  What shocked me was when Nate went nuts and took it to another level.  I was quite suprised when he stabbed the little girl.  You just don't see that stuff in mainstream American cinema.

One great scene in the third act is when he goes out and sees parts of Erica's body wrapped in a garbage bag in the back seat.  For around 30 seconds, there is some genuine sadness/mourning in his face.  Then he goes back into the house and becomes psychotic again.  Great acting by Noah Taylor as Nate.

I found the killing of Frankie a little squeamish.  Did he behead him or cut off his skin?

Great film about 3 fucked up people.  Thanks for the recomendation as I would have just passed it over.  I'm glad I saw this.   I suspect this film didn't get more attention because some of the people probably found it a bit too slow.  Also it probably crosses over into multiple genres.  You can't really classify it as a horror film but it's not really a thriller as well.  I found that some of the handheld camera shots (at least that's what I think it was) added to the film.
