I'm hopeful GNR could become vital again.
The smoke and daggers aside we know Axl has works which are untouched, and Slash has been pumping out Albums last few years - he's still creative.
Songs like Anastasia and Wicked Stone would be worthy of GNR with Axl lyrics.

Nooooooooooo..... He's not a band member. They're being nice by letting him play. And it's probably Axl doing Slash a solid so Steven doesnt have a breakdown. Frank is in the band.
I didn't say to fire frank entirely and let adler do everything, but if adler is there he should be allowed to do his own songs.
To me the legitimacy of this type of thing is directly related to if GNR decides to move forward with new creative material or if this tour is a celebration of the past.
If they want to put out new music with frank as the drummer great, but if we're just celebrating the past records, that's great too for the audience, but, it's then it's absurdist to have a guy who plays on 2 songs cover the work of someone who plays on 12 of the most important songs in the band's history, especially while that person is available and watching out the back.

A bit harsh. During the 'golden years', they were well-marketed screw-ups.
I'm not sure I'd put it as harshly as 'washed up' however the jury is definitely out on whether this is a final victory lap of the globe or if they're still running the race.
Of course ticket sales are bananas for the first tour in 25 years of a close-to original line up (hell original for casuals that really only care about the lead singer and lead guitarist) of one of the biggest acts of the 1990s.
However the question becomes what happens in 2 years when they've played a reunion show in every global market? What then? Do they have the stones to attempt recording together and continuing off where they started the time waste? What would happen if people didn't like it? Would they be making Starwars 7 or the new ghostbusters? hahah

It's really absurd having adler sitting out the back listening to the songs he wrote the drum parts for being performed by frank.
It's great he comes out for a handful of songs, but at this stage, there's no reason that he shouldn't drum every single AFD track they perform.
Frank can remain in the group and play the CD, and UYI tracks. This also allows for a back up should adler's health or sobriety falter.
However the default at this point should be adler for AFD. This guest on a song or two thing is nonsense.

The reason it seems bizarre to us that no one has gone back is because of the computer advances since 1960.
However if you think about it, the majority of what's involved in going to space is not computer related, it's propulsion related.
Sure we have better computers now, and these days your phone could run the computer software used to navigate to the moon.
But science hasn't conquered Astrophysics just yet.
The fastest way to fly a plane in 1960 was a jet engine, in 2016 the fastest way to fly a plane is still a jet engine. They've improved them but the basic science isn't different - it's still based around burning fuels.
Same with space - the way to break out of the atmosphere in 1960 was a liquid fuelled rocket, and that's still how it is done today.
Computers may mean lining up stuff in space is easier on the fly, whereas in 1960 you had to have a mathematical genius flying the ship to do the math by hand if necessary....but essentially....we have not invented a way off the planet that isn't the wylie coyote method of strapping yourself to a shit ton of explosive power.
That's why it hasn't taken off yet - it's very dangerous and very expensive.
The apollo program is about $110 Billion in todays money.
Going back would mean spending that, to go somewhere for the 7th time (hardly bragging rights), that is essentially a desert of rock, and with an extremely significant risk of failure and death.

I like "This I Love" but I'm not in love with Axl's vocal take. I would've preferred that both that and "Madagascar" were sung straight up with no theatrics or rasp.
I agree about the take, but I want more rasp! The leaked few seconds of the brain TIL remix had highpitched rasp rocals that I'm in love with lol

I've always got two impressions from Axl's media appearances and work:
1. That he's sincere and tells the truth.
2. That he's a deep thinker and has strong emotions.
I think therefore with some of those quotes, they're true, but they're what Axl believes to be the truth based on the hurt he might have been feeling at the time.
At one time I did a lot of work on cross-examination. And I came to learn there's rarely an objective truth of a situation. Often times people can tell conflicting stories and neither of them are lying.

To me TIL isn't Nursery Rhyme stylistically so much as influenced by Showtunes or Broadway type music. I don't mind it, however, firstly because it's still in a rock setting, and a lot of GNR has hints of other music styles added, and secondly because I enjoy those types of songs occasionally in general.
The tune is so beautiful I think it's one of Axl's best ballads, and the lyrics I find so tragic it really makes me feel for him.
Then Slash has now taken that to the next level like he does to Axl's songs. Just like NR and Estranged in terms of the addition to me.
Have a listen to this version. It's fucking amazing.
