Serious question from a non-american: Why isn't Al Gore running?

I think Ron is getting unfairly lumped with DJ there.

DJ has that motley crue, sixx am style.

Funny thing though is for me - I also hated it in 1987 - I had no time for any band that wasn't GNR originally, but over the years I've grown to love Crue. DJ would have been a great Mick Mars replacement when Mick is eventually forced to retire playing from illness. Dj's style and sound and dress sense re kind of heavily crue derivative. As a slash replacement he didn't quite fit in but in motley I think it would have.

But Ron isn't that type of player. Ron is a much better player than he had a chance to show in GNR. When he came in he was allocated bucket's parts and the songs were already divided up and everything and so he seemed like a bucket-emulation as that was what he was hired to do, however it would have been interesting to see his take if he had joined before bucket.

As for the "GNR is Axl's Band" thing....you have to wonder...would Axl and Izzy have made it if Slash had never joined? Izzy wrote a lot of songs, and no one disputes Axl is one of the top front men of all time, but they would have needed someone else with some serious guitar firepower early on...the importance of those guitar parts and solos in winning fans in the 1980s is massive.

So true Neemo.

I mean I hate fink playing the AFD songs but I thought he was fricking awesome when I saw NiN.

He was just in the wrong band for sure.

Generally the setlist is pretty good - but all they'd have to do is use some of the alternate tracks on their own list to spice up the show.

Especially when doing 2 nights in the same town. Why not crack out a perfect crime or a twat or a slither? Maybe in place of the The Seeker if time is an issue.

In terms of "How quickly we get complacent" that's what you get when you delay your reunion until the singer has vocal problems and don't bother with a reunion album.

I believe Alan Niven's management company was called stravinski brothers.

The label no doubt bears some responsibility. As does the fact that many business types in music are full of shit.

However we also have to consider the Lebeis family approach of hiding information that might upset Axl from Axl, and we have to consider Axl's mental heath tendency towards victimhood, secrecy and paranoia. Basically becoming famous was probably not very good for someone with his existing issues.

The label thing only goes so far. It's not like Axl plays new songs live every tour like he could if it was just release issues.

#1377 Re: Guns N' Roses » Official band pic » 512 weeks ago

The problem also was Axl's desire to go in a new direction.

Slash is fairly irreplaceable by nature, however, he might have been replaced with relative success if he'd been swapped with a monster player who is also somewhat of a guitar hero in a similar style - someone like Doug Aldrich - or even if they'd kept playing around with Zakk.

Bottom line is the audience didn't want Robin's versions of the old songs, and it doesn't want primus style Buckethead stuff either under the name of GNR.

I can imagine the 2001 line up making great albums, but it doesn't sound like what the public thought GNR is or like old GNR.

Additionally there's the secondary problem of Axl's writers block or why ever he won't share new music, and his reclusiveness during that period.

I can live with it, but it is sort of odd to have her so prominent (relative to Dizzy) both on stage and in the picture. She's the intern not the Steve Jobs of this operation to most of us.

But then again...there's definitely been worse problems over the years 16

The $1,000,000 question for the band really is will they release a new album or is this just a victory lap?

Odd how? Their style? The quality is certainly not much better in my part of the west.

Well I guess what I mean is I'm used to the candidates being a bit rubbish here - but Australia was only federated in 1901 with a constitution thats an odd mix of the American and English systems without the best features of either. Meanwhile we only have a population of 23 Million. Basically it's a young country and no one lives here so what can you expect to get.

The USA on the other hand - so many more people - so much more innovation and development - our best minds move overseas....but over there you'd expect there would be two people from either side of the idea range that seem a little more inspirational than Hillary or Trump.

Trump seems like the exact type of guy you want when there are criminals and dictators on the other side, but that's just me.

It doesn't seem like it to me at all.

Criminals or not international relations requires intelligence, tact, care and planning to avoid wars.

Trump on the other hand seems care-free with the truth, brash, arrogant, and most likely fairly disconnected from the reality of the common man.

Seems to me like he would posture, run his mouth and play hard ball with people until you either ended up in an isolationist mess or having to back up his bravado fighting more unnecessary wars.

What's odd to me as an Australian is the quality of these candidates.

Like surely out of everyone on the left Hillary isn't the best candidate, and surely there's better right wing guys than Trump?

I'm trying to picture this Trump presidency Randall mentions.

To my reasoning I can see some might thinkhe's "fun" because he doesn't seem like a crafted political candidate, but as a dude whose Dad gave him $100m in his 20s...(along the lines of Billions in todays dollars) he's not exactly a self-made man either - he's still old money from the usual circles who control everything (and who seem to control both sides).

But what worries me is the skill set. Seems like his qualifications are that he's rich and he's sick of the globalist agenda. Fair enough but doesn't he need a little more than that to be top dog in your country?

I'm trying to picture him negotiating a dispute with China or Russia, or some complex international issue that might arise.

Politics and rhetoric aside I just can't picture him having the diplomacy to handle stuff like that without wars starting. He doesn't seem like the guy for it.

Admittedly, I'm left leaning in my politics these days, but surely there's better right wing candidates in terms of previous qualifications, IQ, speaking skill, leadership and all the other metrics you'd want in a president than what Trump seems to display. The whole left or right thing aside he just doesn't seem like a presidential person.
