BAD day for the Patriots and they haven't played since Thursday. Leigh Bodden was placed on IR and is out for the season. He is their top DB. He may not be great, but he's solid and he's the lone veteran presence in their secondary. Now 2nd year UConn product, Darius Butler and rookie Devin McCourty move up to starting slots. They're young, they're fast, athletic, they've got some promise. But neither is nearly as good, or as trustworthy as Bodden.
The lone bright spot is I don't think their defense was going to be great with or without Bodden due to the shoddy pass rush, but this just goes from bad to worse. It's looking more and more like they're going to have to get into shootouts with teams and rack up some serious points ala 2007 to be successful. Losing two key guys on defense before the season even starts is not a good sign, Bodden and Ty Warren. We'll see what these young guys are made of.
Speaking of which. We saw WAY too much of what one of the rookies was made of today. Don't know if you guys heard about this, but rookie LB, Brandon Spikes had a sex tape leak online yesterday. Apparently he went onto Chat Roulette with his girlfriend while at college and filmed an intimate moment. Not exactly the greatest impression to make on the organization, after a very solid start to his pro career.
On the Spikes stuff--he already lost an endorsement deal with Reebok because of the sex tape. It won't affect them on the field.
The DB thing is tough but I think they should be offering up some draft picks next year if they're really concerned about the position. The Ravens (also hard hit by injuries to the secondary) just picked up Josh Wilson (young CB with starting experience) for a measly fifth rounder.
So Derrick Burgess and Cunningham (rookie OLB from Florida) haven't provided pass rush for them? I guess I can understand Burgess--he's old but I think they should have attempted to grab more 3-4 olb during the draft especially during the middle rounds.
The good news is the Butler had a year in the defensive system and should be better. Although the secondary is very young (Merriweather--4th year, Chung--2nd year, with the 2 corners), I'd rather have a bunch of young guys than some old guys who can't cover.

I actually think this will happen since they've toured a few times (with Wolfgang on bass). And I think they've come to an understanding to just deal with one another and not let the old issues bother them.
I think Eddie's health scares in the past had a lot to do with this.

"I didn't organize, arrange, authorize, have knowledge of or was even consulted about our being booked for these shows till after the fact nor did I choose to work with anyone I'm aware of other than our manager who was involved in arranging these dates."
Does anyone actually believe this anymore? Seriously every GNR decision goes through him? To believe that Doc McGhee (or whomever is managing them) would just randomly book this stuff without consulting him is absurd. The fact that he used this excuse close to 10 years ago to cancel a European tour doesn't help either.
The funny part is that even with all this stuff the Leeds and Reading festivals still wouldn't mind having them back next year.

Didn't the Vikes pick up Javon Walker? He might be a guy to keep an eye one, although he hasn't been good for a few years. Anyway, took Adrian Peterson with pick 1.2 and hope that he has a big year.
The Vikings lost another CB today. Chris Cook out for two weeks. Makes starting Robert Meachem a good proposition.
I'll stick with the Cowboys D for at least week one as they play the Redskins in what should be a low scoring game.
I'm actually kinda worried about Cutler. He's my backup QB but fuck that Bears oline has been awful. 9 sacks in two halves. Ugh.
BTW, Carolina hasn't scored a td in preseason in 42 offensive posessions.
How the heck did this league get 25 TE's taken again? That's pretty incredible.
Oh and Neemo, Derrick Ward got released today. Time to go waiver wire hunting.

Hopefully if she did have it, it was prescribed and she took it responsibly.
I say that, because if that had ANYTHING to do with it.... rack up ANOTHER drug related, specifically pain killer, death from wrestling.
Something is really fucked up about that business. I saw Stone Cold say in an interview once that he felt the problem was that these mid-cards thought it would last forever. Doing Monday nights, PPV's and stuff, and then one day it's just over, and the blew through all their money, they're beat up because they did it 300 days a year for 10-15 years, they need the drugs, they're broke... it all goes downhill. He credited his survival to conservative spending and smart investing, then again he was probably in the Top-3 all time in terms of fame. So that paycheck was alot fatter in his hey day than a Luna's or Test or Chris Benoit, etc.
The business pretty much lends itself to late night partying and drug abuse. Add to that the long amount of days on the road and the streneous job of performing at house shows + live events and PPV, and you pretty much have a lot of guys just going by the wayside.
Ric Flair is pretty much still wrestling because he needs the money (he owes money to the IRS and several ex wives) and is still addicted to the lifestyle.
Vince pretty much just uses these guys for all their worth and spits them out. They really need a union in order to just limit the amount of time these guys spend on the road. I'm talking about the mid card guys; the guys at the top they're smart enough to take time off or just go film a crappy movie. It's just less taxing on the body.

This is actually a very tricky question. My first instinct would be to go for Harvin since it looks like he's gotten his migraine issues solved. However, with Favre now getting ankle injections thats another factor you have to consider. It depends how the rest of your roster is. I believe Harvin still has value on Kickoff returns though.
Is anyone concerned about the Cowboys Defense? They're my starting D and I really don't feel comfortable with them at all.
#1397 Re: The Garden » 2010 Fantasy Football » 819 weeks ago
strange, I got a few of these players too. Mine is a six team league though. I think I got Jackson at the exact same spot (26). I'm worried about the injury issues a little. Lee Evans looks like he could be a steal though. I drafted Meachem too, although I just took a flyer on him. I snagged Vincent Jackson but I can afford to keep him on the bench for a little while. Rumors are that the Seahawks are interested in dealing for him; he's serving a 3 game regular season suspension so you'll have to use bench him anyway.
The TE situation looks bad. I think the Ravens drafted two TE this year. Go waiver wire hunting on that position. Heap's getting old and chronically injured. There has to be a better TE option on the WW.

Really, really kicking myself for not grabbing Ryan Mathews and Javid Best when I had the chance.
Took a huge risk with Mike Williams (TB), but I really think that kid is going to be a star.
I'm not sure I did the right thing by drafting LT, but he's looked so good in preseason, and he's got a better running O-Line this year and is sharing the load with Shonne Green, who'll batter up the defense to let him run wild in the latter part of games. At least that's what I'm trying to convince myself with.
I'm not playing in this particular game but am active in another FF game but I think you did great with Mike Williams (TB). I think he had a 53 yd reception last night and on a team where there is no real dominant wideout, he seems like a good pick to get some catches.
He's available on the Waiver wire and I'm thinking about dumping Vincent Jackson.
I snagged Best since Kevin Smith is coming off an injury and there isn't really any other option. You're a Dolphins fan right? I grabbed Ronnie Brown later and am thinking about starting him.
1. (1) Chris Johnson
2. (28) Tony Romo
3. (29) Marques Colston
4. (56) Jason Witten
5. (57) Michael Crabtree
6. (84) Minnesota
7. (85) Marion Barber
8. (112) Brandon Jacobs
9. (113) Steve Breaston
10. (140) Ryan Longwell
11. (141) Alex Smith
12. (168) Kevin Walter
13. (169) Leon Washington
14. (196) Derrick Ward
Doesn't look half bad. Only caveats are that Derrick Ward might be cut (or have his carries reduced) and Breaston's production is tied to the QB situation which looks shaky now.
I'd say that the RB's past Johnson look suspect but Johnson will cancel all those critcisms out. Crabtree is a pretty nice pick; I think you did well with that pick; the Barber pick has the potential for a bunch of cheap short yardage tds; ditto with Jacobs.

I'm not one to bitch about setlists, but damn at least put in an effort.
Reviews coming in....
United Kingdom | by Graeme Johnston | 29 August 2010
Once the greatest live bands in the world, seeing Axl Rose and "Guns N Roses" half an hour later than billed was just one big disappointment for the half-crowd who even bothered staying at Leeds Festival tonight. The fact that Marina & The Diamonds on the Festival Republic stage and LCD Soundsystem in the NME Stage both pulled gigantic crowds said it all about Guns N Roses.
A disappointing end to another fine chapter in the Leeds Festival history books.
Those are pretty much the key points for me from the article. Not the half an hour later thing but the fact that the crowd was sparse again. They got outdrew by 2 bands I had never heard of.
#1400 Re: Guns N' Roses » Leeds, United Kingdom - August 29, 2010 (Leeds Festival) » 820 weeks ago
The funny thing is Axl and his clowns are still able to surprise me. I often think it cannot be even more ridiculous, but Reading plus the comments of Asba & Fortus proved me wrong. It's getting entertaining again in some ways. I thought Monty Python was done, but it's alive. Guns N' Roses became the biggest joke in the history of music. The aging rebel with the same setlist, who cancels and reschedules his shows every other night, lol.
At this point, I think I'm just following for the trainwreck/unintentional humor aspect of this band.
Anyway, wasn't curfew around 11pm? The promoter gave him an extra half hour or so before officially pulling the plug. Funny how only GNR seems to have these problems, I think 10 or so bands played yesterday and yet nary a peep out of them about problems.
It's not like Axl hasn't shown up on time for these gigs with curfew. He just chooses not to. Every disagreement/feud he has with certain concert promoters just shortens the list of festivals/venues that are willing to take a chance on this variation of GNR. That list is growing shorter with every stunt he pulls. He's just costing himself money in the end.
