#1441 Re: Guns N' Roses » Slash says its surreal that they are all getting along so well » 515 weeks ago
"Came Along Way" describes them all well I think.....
Duff has conquered anxiety and alcoholism, Slash has conquered heroin and alcoholism, Axl has conquered his emotional, upbringing and psychological issues.
#1442 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl at the Chinese Exchange » 515 weeks ago
Wishful thinking there. You know I'd find something to complain about
Plus like you've alluded to, you're relying on Axls mindset having shifted considerably. Appeasement is not something he's been particularly good at..
Yeah absolutely...to be honest I can't imagine Axl doing anything like what I suggested!
I just feel like in theory if they wanted to it would be easy to write a "straight ahead rock track" to go with whatever experimental stuff is lying around that would lube up the ass of the station...wait this metaphor is going wrong.....
I remember how UYI was a bit WTF fans at first - like these days epics like NR and Estranged seem normal but they were a bit odd to the hardrock accustomed fans of AFD. But the waters were eased with stuff like YCBM that delivered the old GNR in spades.
I feel it could be the same, I assume there's more stuff like catcher and TIL type stuff that with Slash would easily be like UYI style numbers, and there's probably a few more things that are a bit outside that mold too - more like Scrapped and Shackler type stuff. Slash on all that stuff would make it rocky as hell...but I figure if they write a "Rock or Bust" style song to showcase Axl's rasp scream and slash's powerhouseness they could get away with so much else I recon.....
Sort of like how those last couple of Ac/Dc albums people don't question too much...they're not pushing out glory era stuff like "thunderstruck" or "back in black" and so on...but it's close enough sounding to what u want that people eat up the single and take it.
#1443 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl at the Chinese Exchange » 515 weeks ago
To me the way to appease the label would be to purposely write a quick rock-anthem single. Then the actual album could be full of deep cuts, and epic ballads or entirely like Chinese Democracy or even diverse sounding. But the label could lock onto that single and use it in all promo stuff and on radio and generally as the flag ship "they're back" type sound.
A song like "Rock or Bust" from Ac/Dc - where there doesn't have to be a lot to it - make sure it has a few raspy screams from Axl in the chorus - such as he does on Rock or Bust or even something like the LALD stuff....mix in a slash shreedy blues solo....
I mean I know songwriting is a complex artistic process for Axl with emptional levels and all that...but in terms of the tools of the trade...they could smash something out in an hour that would shut us all the hell up for a tour cycle or more.

You guys would have loved to listen to this track, but that asshole Matt is stuffing it up for you right? Right?
#1445 Re: Guns N' Roses » Speculation: GN'R Classics Re-Record in the future? » 515 weeks ago
I think they're playing them faster mostly to fit more songs in the set, and/or, because there's probably a degree of boredom in playing sweet child for the 1750 th time.
Other changes to me stem from the fact that frank doesn't have the UYI chemistry with the band, melissa is playing an unplugged etcha-sketch, fortus plays parts with a lot more technical flaire than gilby or izzy, and slash's style has evolved to be more shreddy than it was back in the day. So it winds up sounding a little different.
As for re-records:
1. On one hand it would be utter sacrilege as it's a classic album. On the other hand - as I've got older you notice all the things we're used to in the live set just don't exist in recorded form. If there was never another live show - you can't hear the "do you know where you are" or the "with her ass in the air" or the "home fuck" type stuff again. Sometimes I wish the studio cuts did have those features. But let's face it - re-recording them would open the flood gates to whatever odd changes they came up with. Layers of synth. different guitars. Think about that "big daddy" sweet child of mine - it should be illegal to alter an all time iconic guitar part like that. Vocals could be even scarier. Maybe axl fills them full of incredbile rasp and screams - or maybe he makes it mickey. Scary stuff.
2. To play devils advocate - if they were to do this it would make sense to form a label - and run these new versions in opposition to the original versions. Especially as there's never been a remaster of decent anniversary edition or anything. Would be better from a business perspective.
3. In reality I think if they re-boot anything it would be the chinese songs. As we alreafy know they did a remix album once - and they also had the DJ/Bumble type alternate versions comming out years on from the original. The sickness with these songs is never over lol. But yeah - a slash/duff version of CD is actually more logical - as it would make it fit back into the cannon nicer than it does as Axl and friends. Additionally most people find the slash versions of the CD tracks live more compelling and the original album underpeformed, So there's a solid creative basis for tampering with it.
Although at this stage the next logical step would be CD2 - Axl has most of it done after all - and then add in Slash.
#1446 Re: The Garden » How Realistic Do You Think A 3rd World War Is? » 515 weeks ago
I think the global situation depends on what happens in America first.
America desperately needs to find a new economic model or possibly some political/corporate changes that allow for moderation to the neo-liberal economic model.
The current level of wealth inequality is simply unsustainable. Those statistics Bernie Sanders cites aren't just zingers for his campaign. At some point society as we know it simply can not continue to function when 58% of all new income goes to the top 1%, The top 1/10th of 1% owns the same as the bottom 90% of people. The trends clearly show these things worsen every year and have a corresponding effect on education, child poverty and all the things that provide for a prosperous future America in the long term.
At some point if these things can not be resolved by the leaders they will be resolved by the populace. Look at what that populace is - a heavily armed society with decades of racial tension and other inequalities simmering under the surface. It will start with an attack on the rich - but soon will degenerate into racial disputes/war and general anarchy. Think Rodney King mixed with the French revolution.
As some point it would end but who knows how things would look then.
Meanwhile, once this sort of conflict begins in the USA, depending on how unlucky we are, the stage is set for any international troublemakers to make their move in other regions, as the major current deterrent to something like a new world war will be heavily distracted.

As for Sorry - although Axl says there is no such construct as "The Fans" I always got the impression that some of it was aimed at the sort of trolls that fill places like mygnr and don't give him a fair shot. (While there's annoying things GNR has done, we all know there's some folks who just hate anything for the sake of it).
As with most GNR songs I think it probably comes down to line by line experiences though - it's probably an amalgamation of anger towards various groups that have criticised him from the negative fans, to managers, to advisers, to the label, lovers, to family and bandmates during a dispute etc. It seems simplistic to say it's directed at Slash alone. Particularly since in I think Axl rebuffed that idea from the stage somewhere around 2009.

Great show. Slash is totally owning the TIL solo.
#1449 Re: The Garden » Michael Jackson's home contained child pornography, animal torture » 516 weeks ago
Newsagent I worked at used to sell Barely Legal - it's collage type women 18, 19 and early 20s.
They do pick girls who look fresh faced so to speak but it's absolutely not a representation of child porn or getting the girls to mimic being underage.
They pride themselves on finding girls who have just turned 18 and that type of stuff but I always figured it's more for older guys to remember their glory days when they were 20 and dated girls like this than it is anything illegal.
It's more for dirty old men than it is for child porn. Ethically questionable in it's own way but a massive massive stretch to bring it up under any type of investigation into anything child porn related.
#1450 Re: Guns N' Roses » Nightrain Official Site » 516 weeks ago
I once watched a VR show from the 2nd row myself. I got to see a grinning Matt Sorum up close and Slash standing on the stage, going through the motions looking like he wanted out, Kusner standing one on spot the whole show to the other side of the stage (as iff someone told him to stand behind a curtain). Duff was cool though, I think... hazy memory.
Interesting was this the contraband tour or libertad?
I went to 3 contraband shows and slash was really into it. Kusner was really active some nights but as you describe on others - at the time I wondered if he was ill or jet-laged or something as it was noticeanle how different he was a few days later.
