#1471 Re: Guns N' Roses » Half of CD vocals done in a week? » 519 weeks ago

It sort of puts the waste of time into perspective. To think that at times the man is able to come in and lay out vocals of CD standard in mere days. It sort of brings home the insanity of letting business disputes and creative fear and whatever else eat up 15 years. Also things like the Sailing cover - seemingly a casual throw away moment for the band - but one of the most amazing sounding things in years - it makes you realise how much amazing stuff could exist if Axl's problems were just a little bit easier to manage.

Axl managed an 8:00pm start time at their most recent gig in melbourne Australia a few years back. So it's possible.

Agree the problem is the silence.

Just look at the kind of press Slash did for Apocalyptic Love and World On Fire. He was EVERYWHERE - from guitar mags to talk shows.

In a perfect world Axl and Slash would show the feud is over by doing some video interviews together and being all funny and jovial together. Think of the way Axl and Angus did that short thing for Ac/Dc. Went a long way.

But if Axl doesn't wanna do that - at a minimum they should let Duff and Slash start doing their normal PR circuit they do for projects.

I guess the danger of course is that they ask Slash about Axl and sooner or later he says something Axl doesn't like - but then Slash is pretty savy at question dodging these days - he was more of a kid in the UYI era and saying dumb stuff. He's more cautious now.

My hope is that after the ac/dc shows....GNR does this USA tour then next year launches a full scale international effort with a new single or EP (or god forbid album) behind it....that's the dream....but it's starting to look more like they might just do these shows as is with no promo or anything.

As I said somewhat negatively in another thread. The band has gone from aping AFD to aping UYI. The return of Coma, the solo pieces being Godfather and Attitude. It's a thing of beauty to us hardcores to relive the UYI days where many of us had our first shows - but it's worrying in terms of the band's future. The absence of anything new - even the new stuff like 'Coma' and 'twat' is decades old at this point - is kinda telling. There's no 'Rock or Bust' type album drop yet.....

I guess my worry is it's starting to feel more like a victory lap than a relaunch. Let's hope I'm wrong.

How does that graphic support the idea that everyone's a Libertarian?

I agree....I can see that it seems to be saying there's both republican and democrat core values that count as libertarian but that's only if you can cherry pick out of the values in the middle, I wouldn't think it would be very common for someone to believe in everything in the two middle columns would it?

It's not bad in itself - it's more the early shows were better. Hope when they proshoot he brings his A-game!

#1476 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl Rose joins AC/DC » 520 weeks ago

First verse is way more spoken/mickey here than in the first couple of shows where he yelled it.

I dunno here it seems like government assistance is all but being phased out.  My cousin has ankylosing spondylitis and can barely move some days yet the government thinks he's good to work. Basically here if anything happens to you that pushes you into poverty you're told it's your own fault.

Meanwhile we've had generations of policies designed to favour the top end of town, land ownership has become a devise for the wealthy to speculate on to make tax-free capital gains and has pushed prices up to the extent that anyone under about 40 here needs to move 100km from the city to find a place they can live. For example the suburb where I rent is 30km outside of a capital city (ie close to go to work)  and houses here that are weatherboard and built in the 1970s are around $1.5m dollars. To buy something for $400k i'd be looking at maybe 2-3 hours commute time each way.

Jobs have almost all been converted to 'casual' employment where you work beyond full time hours but are paid on a part-time basis with no benefits and no job-security, meanwhile everyone under 40 was conned into borrowing $50-100k to go to university only to discover that most of the time there's no actual jobs in what they study. Despite the comedy and so on this is not only limited to liberal arts degrees either - for example I have a law degree and also a business degree both at grad dip level but never could get decent professional work. Might as well have quit school at 14 for all the help my education has brought to me in terms of earning a living.

I dunno what it's like in other countries and I'm not complaining as i'm sure there's people here with a lot worse....just saying the system is broken and it's past time that some new ideologies and models were installed or it's going to keep getting worse until something outright bad happens when too many people are pushed to desperation.

I would like to see a model that incorporates profit like we have, but pays more value to ethics and basic standards for everybody rather than the shameless greed and "fuck everyone else" attitude we see now.

It's probably just voice fatigue, I mean he's basically screaming the set and it sounds awesome - but how many nights in close succession and you scream out 2 hours of songs without feeling it a bit. Even with training you're going to need a break sometimes.

I always think covers are worse for this kind of thing too - cos you arn't even doing what comes naturally - you are doing what came natural to someone else.

Hopefully he returns to form soon though.

All the good shows earlier made me realise how badly they need to record with him while he can still scream! The tone of Axl's voice is just amazing.

#1479 Re: The Garden » Civil disobedience : Matt Damon speech. Opinions ? » 520 weeks ago

I don't think disobedience itself is the answer as that would just lead to anarchy and non-society.

However, I think we need to move on from neo-liberism and belief that a free market will self regulate everything before the world is ruled by two giant corporations alone.

As a species I think were going to have to look at other ideas going forward - society designed around profit isn't working and soon there's going to be no need for people to work as much as we all do so many days of the week.

That does sound quick considering it includes writing the script. Then again I guess 10 films in a lot of the groundwork has been done. I'm looking forward to this though. The Rob Zombie versions were interesting but sort of problematic to me. I'd be interested in a fresh modern take.
