Guns N' Roses set to play at Telstra Sydney 500 V8 Supercars race

BAD boy Axl Rose is tipped to welcome V8 fans to the jungle, with Guns N' Roses set to return Down Under later this year for the Telstra Sydney 500.

In a major boost for V8 Supercars, Sport Confidential can exclusively reveal the world's most dangerous band has all but agreed to headline the December 3-5 series finale at Olympic Park.

"The Gunners are the No. 1 target and they've indicated they are willing to do it," said a source close to the negotiations.

"It's just a matter of getting the contracts signed."

Once the biggest rock band in the world, Guns N' Roses are likely to fire up ANZ Stadium the Sunday night after the second race in a coup that should ensure last year's crowd figure of 185,000 is shot to pieces.

Perfectly suited to the V8s given his name is Axl, the Guns N' Roses front man last brought his new-look band to Australia in 2007 following a 14-year absence. It seems Axl may have a thing for race tracks with the mega group's most notable performance in Australia at Eastern Creek for the record-breaking Use Your Illusion tour in 1993.

V8 Supercars heavies have been in the US working on the deal for the past month with the coup to dwarf last year's feat of bringing back Cold Chisel. V8 Supercars will announce another big act to headline the Gold Coast 600, with Pink and ZZ Top contenders.

Sad news to hear RIP.

Like others I remember growing up watching that show!  As you said James, it feels like a lot of people I recall and was fond of from the 80's seem to be checking out.

Compare that to Axl's GN'R, where there's more of a share and share alike approach among the three guitarists. Of course, that just means the naysayers crow about it "taking three people to fill Slash's shoes," which is patently bollocks.

They share because they were hired to share so Axl could keep all the power.  He chose relative nobodies for a reason...

Yeah I have always thought that you could look cynically at the 3 guitarist thing.  That bascially it was a conscious decision by Axl to ensure that no single person "outshined" him.  It also meant that he would never find himself in the same position as he did with Slash, where so much of the bands audience (and the world) associated him with the band just as much as Axl.

It would make it much easier to replace a guy when he didnt' tow the line, so to speak.  Ironically though he found himself in a somewhat simlar position with BH (albeit more with the hardcore fans than the general public). So perhaps in the early days when Bucket was still with the band it wasn't the motivation for having 3 guitarists, but once BH left and all the parts were handed out it appeared to be "shared around" a lot more.

You could argue Axl just wanted to give all 3 guitarists "equal opportunity" to show their chops.  Or you could say he decided it would make things easier to launch someone or replace them if they jumped ship.  It helps him try and cement in peoples minds that Axl is Guns N' Roses!

That's a great pic Neemo - love those Dharma labels on the beer!!!

I'm undecided on the final episode, I wish the writers would tell us a tiny bit more.  From what I read and from obviously my own opinion there are a few schools of thought.

One is that that what happened on the island is real and the flash sideways is a pergatory type place.  I could believe that but why is the island such a magic place if it's in the real world.

Others say that when the plane crashed they all died and what happened on the island is kind of like purgatory and the flash sideways is an alternate reality.

I've seen good arguments for and against the 2 above scenarios.  I also don't buy what the directors say about knowing exactly how the show was going to end right from the start.  Unless them saying they knew it would finish with Jack's eye closing was what they meant and they were happy for everybody to think it meant they knew exactly how the plot would end.  I say this because they seem to have changed up the story over time, not to confuse but rather you get the feeling that they were changing their mind.  I mean one of the directors said after about the very first episode that they weren't in pergatory.

PA Snow re your point, since I think the writers did change their mind on the hop quite a few times I wouldn't be surprised at all if what you say was accurate.

There are the the definite themes in there about choosing good vs evil, redemption, atoning for your past etc, all of which would presumably help them move on to the next life.  But it would be nice for it to be a bit clearer as to which world/reality was what.

The COUNTER SUIT only came because Azoff filed suit against him. Axl would not have had any real reason to do anything had Irving left well enough alone and just walked away. Again, Axl is just defending himself against Azoff's suit...the two suits are one in the same.

So his manager completely sabotages his record, but he's only going to sue because he got sued?  I don't buy it.  That makes no sense whatsoever.  If Azoff did what Axl says he did, he's getting sued no matter what.

That's actually a really good point!  If Azoff did all that shit to him why wasn't Axl suing him already?

#1646 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl fires back at Irv with lawsuit » 833 weeks ago

^ Yeah Axl obviously trusted the guy and took his word on a lot of things.  It's admirable if true, but unfortunately it doesn't appear that a guy like Azoff has a lot of integrity, so it was a silly thing to do.

#1647 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl fires back at Irv with lawsuit » 833 weeks ago

^ The difficulty with that one is that Axl's "defacto" family (i.e. Fernando) also leaked (or was the original source behind tracks that leaked) prior to the skewerl ones.  You could argue they did just as much if not more damage to the anticipation.

That said if Azoff leaked shit too that is fucken low!

That lawsuit makes for some interesting reading.  Gives us a blow by blow transcript of events over the last 2 years according to Axl.

I agree with his assertion that Azoff set him and CD up for failure trying to force a reunion.  That was ALWAYS going to be his agenda.

We all knew why Azoff was onboard and what his likely motives where,  except it seems for Axl - until now.   BUT good luck proving it.

I have no doubt that Axl's BB check went to Uni. It's been known for years that artists get the "left overs" of album profits after it's cycled through all of the appropriate channels. With Axl's debt, the BB check most likely was what we all thought it was - breaking even.

Of the $14/15M (whatever the figure for the Best Buy deal was) Azoff got paid $2M, Axl got $1M and Uni took the rest.

I mean seriously, what would Axl have to do to have some of u on here get his back? I think its ridiculous.

Do u know why the shit in the top 10 on Billboard is in the Top 10 on billboard? It isn't cause its the "Best" its because it has the artists with the most push behind them.

Well surely if Axl signed a contract that stipulated marketing and promo obligations of the label then presumably it would have happened.  If not then Axl can easily win in court for breach of contract.  My guess it was probably ambiguous or not in writing and so Azoff has now turned around and shafted him.

I mean seriously something like promo for example (what it will involve and who is going to pay for it) SHOULD have been addressed in writing since it was always going to be a conentious issue given how much money the label had already poured into the project.  I always thought he would be pushing shit up hill to get them to do anything else to help him (promo or otherwise) as I am sure he probably didn't have any goodwill left with the label.

I support Axl, but if he fucked up with his business decision then that's sad for him and the album but there is nobody else to blame but himself for that.  We all know "Azoff is the reunion" king so what else did he expect when he hired him?  Here was my assessment of the situation 2 years ago when Azoff was apppointed:

I believe Azoff still acts on behalf of Weiland (or at least someone in his stable works with Weiland).  Now Weailand has been conveniently steered down the STP track which clears the decks for VR to slowly die one way or another.

Next object for Azoff is to get CD out of the way - i.e. most likely releasing it.

Now for the conspiracy theory bit, it may be in the best intersts of Azoff if CD doesn't sell too well.  Get the monkey off the back by getting it out, but then if it doesn't sell too well.....

Enter the reunion into the equation and the mega $$'s - not just for the band but for the management.

If I could see that happening from the sidelines why couldn't Axl?

Regarding his fight to take on Azoff/Live Nation etc - I fully support Axl.  That's a big battle to take on and I hope he is joined by numerous other artists and relevant parties because I think that sort of monopoly needs to be stopped.
