Still think Trump can take this. The polls have been telling us he can't win since he started his campaign. The media has been telling us that. They said he wouldn't even get the nomination.
Well, he did. And Hillary fucking Clinton is still his opponent. All he has to do is convince people he'll be better than her. Even for a mad man that is feasible.
Debates will be decisive imo. No way Hillary will come out looking good from those.
I'd agree with half of what you're saying. The media was in dismay pretty much the entire time. They couldn't believe the polling data, which showed Trump consistently whipping the rest of the GOP candidates. Also the last few cycles we've seen outliers take the lead early on (Bachman, Carson, Perry etc) only to collapse shortly after. I also though Trump would follow the same trajectory.
So the media was wrong by dismissing the polls, but the data itself was correct. The talking heads have a job to do, air space to fill up, and ads to sell. I try to ignore the noise (and it's about to get a lot more noisier) and solely look at data. Of course people dismiss polling numbers as well, but I generally do not.
I have always thought debates meant something, or imagined they would be some make/break point in an election. I'm not so sure they are any more. I think the internet and cable news may have diluted the heft of the debate format. As for this one, I don't think Donald has enough discipline to be an effective debater against Hillary in the long haul. Yes he'll get his soundbites for the 24/7 news cycle. But Hillary is smart as a whip, and actually has a great sense of humor. Hate her or not (not saying you specifically, but whoever) she should not be underestimated in that setting. She sat all day long dealing with that Benghazi panel, and came out the winner. Republican leaders begrudgingly admitted this when it was all said and done.

One other thing......need more promo. I think they've done a great job handling things so far but it might be reaching the point where some members can hit the media circuit....Slash and Duff on some mainstream outlets and Dizzy, Fortus, and Frank hitting the online outlets and maybe even the forums. I also think its a missed opportunity not pushing Melissa to the moon. Other than Tracey and Roberta on backing vocals, its very unique for GNR to have a female member and Melissa is very marketable. Guys in general dig on chicks in bands and what bigger band in the world currently has a female member?
I get the mystery aura surrounding this tour.....surprises in store(we just witnessed one last night).....anything can happen....and it sure beats the Scooby Doo mystery act of the Chinese years but this lineup is firing on all cylinders so it should be given a push.
And I agree totally in regards to marketing.
Anything can happen! Who might show up? Guess who showed up last week?
Etc etc....

When I was growing up in the 80s there was constant undertone of fear...would we go to war with Russia? Nuclear weapons and so on...
My Mom worked for the foreign service many years before my birth and had the fortune of working in embassies around the world. It was of her opinion that WW 3 with Russia was highly unlikely during that time. She always said her main concern was some nutcase getting their hands on nuclear weapons in the Middle East. Looking back on that statement, I find it mirrors my sentiments today. That would be my primary concern way before any WW 3 type scenario happening. The old gal may be a PITA, but she was right about stuff like this IMO.

Along with other "red" states moving toward blue, there's this. Donald Trump only leads Hillary by 7 points in Texas. That's insane. There's now way she'll win Texas, but to be that close shows how terrible a candidate Trump is.
AZ is awash in Red, yet he holds a lead that is almost within the margin of error.
Likewise earlier this month in Utah he TIED with Hillary at 35%, with Gary Johnson picking up 13%.
63% of Utah Mormons also had an unfavorable view of Trump.
Conservatives in the upper echelons of the GOP hierarchy have not only dismissed Trump over the last week or so, but have left the GOP altogether.
