For once the rumors were true. 2016 will be a big year for Guns N' Roses.

Just curious, are you opposed to the concept of the EU (or more generically something like a United States of Europe), or is your biggest problem the way it is organized?
I personally believe there's no way in hell that even the biggest European economies (Germany, France, UK, ...) can maintain their current levels if the EU were to seize to exist. There's just no way to compete effectively with the US, China, India, etc... (even Japan) when you don't have the scale the EU currently has.
Furthermore, the formation of the EU over the past few decades has been one of the most important drivers in turning a war-torn Europe from a warfare to a welfare continent. I think the EU definitely deserved the Nobel peace prize it got in 2012.
Now, does the current EU 'democracy' work? Hell no, the entire setup is asinine. We need a single pan-European parliament and senate that is directly elected by the European people. We need a pan-European income and corporate tax system, a pan-European intelligence agency, a pan-European military, pan-European border and customs, etc... Member states should be either fully in, or fully out. None of this UK/Norway bullshit of special cases and special rules.
Of course, the individual states need state rights as well. Things like culture, education, VAT and sales tax, local roads and infrastructure, ... are obviously better managed at the state level.
Unfortunately, I think we might need the EU to collapse before something like that is feasible. Or perhaps the UK leaving, Scotland seceding and joining the EU would provide an less revolutionary path towards a stronger Europe.
I don't have a problem with European cooperation and unity, but I don't think something like a centralized government would ever work. An economy can only properly function on a level playing ground. If you bring in low cost countries or countries with corruption all you do is give them an unfair advantage.
In my opinion it is ludicrous to even try and compete with certain European countries, not to mention third world countries where they employ literal slave labor. You just can't compete with that in manpower heavy industries. And it's not like we are doing the less well to do countries any favors either. We are doing what we call a "bear service" by allowing them to profit from exploitative business practices, enabling them to remain in an economic status quo. Right now you have loads of European countries offloading their unemployment on richer countries, masking their real social problems. At the same time the rich countries are getting booms from all the cheap labor available, creating the appearance of a healthy economy. This is why the EU has never really functioned and why it will ultimately fail.
The only union I could accept right now would be one concentrated on the NW. When and if other countries reach the required levels to join they can do so. And leave the bankers and aristocrats out of it.

They want in GNR, maybe. Does that mean Axl was right? Hardly. Had he been right they wouldn't be back in is what some may say. As long as they are happy that is all I care about. It may just be for the money, I am fine with that too
Not saying he was right, saying Axl will look at it like that. Them admitting defeat coming back to play in his GN'R.
Nah, Pitman wouldn't have to keep his trap shut if that were the case. I think SG is right in that this is a return to 'the partnership'.
How do you figure that? Band members have been careful about what they say ever since it became Axl's band.
Yes, it looks like it is a partnership, but does anyone think Axl has relinquished any formal control of GN'R?

that's ridiculous. Look at the benefits the EU has brought.
Yeah, if you're Poland.
Maybe as a Norwegian you're on the outside looking in a little. Which I find unfortunate - I feel a deep connection with my Norse cousins. The Vikings sailed up the little strip of land near where I grew up. You see where winterfell is set? That's around there they settled & it's still retains the name they gave it - strangford.
We're all connected. It's beautiful man.But yea, look how integrated Norway already is to the EU. Your relationship is weird. It's like the family member you won't acknowledge in public but are all buddied up with in private.
If the EU was only the North Western countries it'd be fantastic. Similar economies, similar people, similar culture. Cross the borders freely, settle down, get a job. Would be great for the economy.
The problem is letting in those who are way worse off, and now with mass immigration even the NW countries are filled with people looking to work on the cheap, or not work at all. That's why the system is doomed to fail. The rich countries are getting fleeced, while the poor end up in a dependent relationship.

I think GNR has a way of making things not cheesy. Like you could say if Anastasia has cheesy Bach Riffs and cliche lyrics then Double Talking Jive has cliche Spanish guitar and "Get the money motherfucker" isn't exactly high art lyrically - but they pull it off. I feel it would be the same.
As for it being a powerplay to play each others stuff, I see it more as common sense. Now we're over the cold war - there's no longer a reason to keep sides and shun each others works - and both of them have some of their best stuff outside of old GNR in my mind.
Also it would help freshen up the setlist. Both Axl and Slash have flogged the hell out of the back cataloge in their solo stuff past few years.
Those songs were written by GN'R though. If they are going to do Anastasia it will be a cover with maybe some quick adjustments by Axl, but you are still left with a cheesy Slash/Kennedy song at the core. I realize the song has many fans, to me though it's just not anywhere near GN'R standards and I don't see anything but a complete rework changing that.
I don't think we will see any power plays. Slash and Duff coming back is admitting that Axl was right, and that makes him happy. I'm pretty sure they know you don't screw around with Axl anymore. Imo they are back in the band because they want it, and it is completely on Axl's terms.

Hardly the big announcement they promised. Unless it is a ruse of course.

There's one more major factor that could swing voting.
Euro 2016 is taking place during this referendum in France. If there's a terrorist attack during the nations favorite sport here, it'll swing voting all right. Alot of people are going to be traveling from all over Europe to France this summer, it could get scary if something happens.
pollux do you think you'll be singing Deutschland uber alles, on 21st June would you face the favorites?
A terror attack on the EURO's would have massive consequences, not only for the UK but for all of Europe. These big sporting events have gone off without a hitch for a long time now, they've become a safe haven. If something happened there now, with all that's going on, the shock waves could be unprecedented.
Every other summer I go from 1/16th German to full kraut. I'd like nothing better than to smash France in the final. If we can smack England around a little bit on the way that would be fun too.

polluxlm wrote:I think the UK should leave. The sooner the EU falls apart, the better.
I'd be happier to leave if we had a different government. Problem is the only alternative to the Tories who represent everything I hate is Labour (who for better or worse are screwed due to the SNP), the supposed lefties who took the UK with the US to Iraq.
Ever seen V for Vendetta? That's my interpretation of what the UK looks like in a few generations with no one to balance out the right.
I hear that. If any of our present parties wanted out I'd be against it too. Any change by a party you don't like is likely to only give you something worse. EU should fail though, and if I was a citizen in an important nation like the UK I'd probably just have to hold my nose and do it.
