#11 Re: Official Albums » Appetite For Destruction » 845 weeks ago
Only song I skip over is Out Ta Get Me. I've had 6 copies of this album, the first 4 were cassettes that I completely wore out between June 1988 (when I first heard them) and June 1990 (when I got a cd player for my 18th birthday, along with cd's of Appetite, Dr. Feelgood, and Steve Vai's Passion & Warfare), between listening to them on my WALKMAN to and from school (and plenty of time during), playing them over and over as I was learning to play the songs on my guitar... Sweet Child was the first real song I ever learned to play... Those tapes didn't stand a chance.
I like what they said about Steven... Shame.

Now that band there could have ruled the planet earth.
They did... Just not long enough.

Ok, side project...
That's all fine and good lol...
In the previous 3 years Slash put out 2 albums with 1 lineup, made 6 videos(?), and had a proper tour for at least 1 of those albums (Riots not included).
Axl put out half as many albums, in nearly 4 times the number of years, with more than twice the number of musicians, is still working on the first video 4 months after the albums release, which should have been done at least 2 months earlier than the release, and can't put together a tour because he still has musicians being replaced, a tour that also should have been started at least 2 months earlier than the release... Oh, he did tour, 6 years before the release (2 riots included). I was shocked about the release, not because it was finally coming out, but for years when someone posted a rumor that the album would be released a month prior to that post, I always said "NO WAY", because a general release date is announced at least 6 months in advance, you have an idea... And then bam, Axl went and did the most unintelligent business move, issuing a release date something like lousy 3 weeks before the actual release, with no tour, no video, NOTHING... Axl should run for fucking U.S. congress, only someone on Capital Hill is capable of spending so much time doing 1 thing, doing it half assed, totally fucking it up at the end, and not piss off his supporters enough to justify not supporting him again.
It isn't the fact that Axl has worked with so many musicians, it's that it's been that many musicians in that much time to produce ONE album. And even worse, if you listen to some of the songs, they don't sound much different than what was leaked out 5 years earlier, and those leaks weren't leaked out the day they were recorded, those leaks more than likely were representative of how far along they were a year or 2 before that.
#14 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash Basically Blaming Axl » 845 weeks ago
I reckon the leaks killed a lot of the anticipation plus with the crying wolf for over 9 years, it all just got old. People just got bored of Axl's carry on and moved on.
It doesn't help matters that some of the songs that were released on the album don't sound much better than their unfinished leak counterparts of 5 years earlier.
When I heard the leaks, I thought the songs had potential, but the finished product was embarrassing, from a production standpoint. Good example, Better, that song is great, then you hit that little spot just before the solo, it kills the songs continuity.
Anyone who thinks CD is superior, are just as deluded and in denial as those who thought Contraband was good enough to be called "The album that should have been the follow up to Appetite".
And for what it's worth, it seems we have people that like to bitch that Axl didn't do interviews, or any proper promotions... Then go on to insinuate Slash is whore for doing proper promotion for his stuff. Yeah, these people can be taken seriously.
#15 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash to Axl: "Whatever, Dude." » 845 weeks ago
ya know...Slash has worked with a multitude of musicians over the years as well...its weird that he doesnt get blasted for the revolving door thing
They aren't even remotely similar, that's why. Snakepit was a solo project, it was never a proper band, and his sessions work doesn't count. Slash has only been in 1 real band since 1997, and released 2 multiplatinum albums with the same 4 guys both times. It helps matters that he has released 4 different albums of his own material since 1995.
Since 1996, GnR has had 14 members leave or replace someone, and that isn't even counting when Izzy was brought back in to write, not counting when Axl had Zakk Wylde come in which was serious enough that Zakk couldn't give Ozzy a straight answer on whether he would tour with him, not counting Dave Navarro and the other guest spots... There has been a total of 11 lineup changes in 13 years, from 1996 to 2009... And only one album released at the end of it.
Apples and oranges.

Then you apparently didn't read my post, that called Axl out too. They were ALL has beens.
I'm just saying that if Tommy is a nobody, and Axl is a has been, then Slash, Duff & Izzy were too. I see nothing in their discography and career history, to grant them some sort of immunity.
And Intercourse, Tommy working in telesales... whatever. That doesn't mean people don't know or remember him. Gary Cherone became a building contractor, and I hear that cat's name ALL the time.
And as for the industry being totally abuzz over VR, that was mainly due to the fact every other fuckin' interview was being done by all of them, to remind us all 900 fuckin' times they're starting a band. Well ding ding for them.
Chinese Democracy up until 2002 was a highly anticipated album. After that tour disaster, I will agree, they became a legendary joke, and that album will remain one despite being superior.
When a has been tells the media "Hey I'm starting a new band", no one cares, that is part of being a has been. The only time anyone cares about a has been, it's when there is a mugshot involved.

There putting the finishing touches on the Better video. It's about 99% complete.
LMAO
Axl said they were putting the "finishing touches" and CD back during RIR3 in 2001... When did the album come out?
You just got the kiss of death.

You can't tell me that everything to do with this whole circus isn't disappointing.
As buzz is saying, I LOVE cd.... I really do. I listen to it constantly and I encourage people I know to buy it. But how else am I supposed to support this thing?
James has been harping on one point for years that no one seems to want to acknowledge; only GNR.
Albums have years or mystery things in the way of being released; only GNR
Albums come out with out any promotion; only GNR
No performances whatsoever can be lined up; only GNR
A guitarist who hasn't been around in almost 2 decades gets in the way of everything; only GNR
Albums that took forever and a day to complete STILL have issues with the booklet and quality control issues; only GNR
Revolving door of "it musicians" (at the time); only GNRI could go on, but I think you get the point. One could argue "well, you chose to be GNR fan, so who's forcing you?" and my reply to that is; I'm a fan of good music and great performance. GNR has and continues to produce that. They, at the same time though, force me to live in a circus they create and continue with in order to do so.
I just didn't know what he was talking about.
I hate the "No Promotion" claim though, I think that's a little bullshit... The no promotion argument works only for the short term, the album has been out for months now, and all it does is sink further down the Billboard charts, we are to believe that fans still don't know it's out there? I don't buy that for a second. There was no promotion, yeah, but I hardly doubt that is a legit excuse 4 or 5 months later. But initially it never should have been left up to debate, there should have been a tour with dates and band lineups already set and kicked off 2 or more months before the release, not still in planning months after, the first video should have been released 2 or more months before the release not still unreleased months after the release. But it has to be something deeper, because it's been out there.
I think all the other shit that has surrounded Axl Rose is to blame. This man had such a huge amount of buzz around him from late 2000 to 2002, and then Philly happened, Vancouver happened, and it was a case of same shit, different decade. I don't think enough people really give a shit anymore, he squandered his comeback, and that Del James hit piece was the cherry on top.
Nothing will change though, because Axl still blames everyone else, even when he is the only person in charge of shit.

Forced to how?
#20 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Slash Basically Blaming Axl » 846 weeks ago
In 2000 Slash was doing a world stadium tour with AC/DC... Yep small bars. Not to mention that he has been a successful, highly sort after sessions guitarist since the early 90's, and artists were putting him in their videos because they like having has beens in their videos.
Duff and Izzy at the time had no desire to do anything big, but were working.
Buckethead was only releasing what seemed like 50 albums a month.
But they were all just playing small bars.
What happened when Slash and Duff did decide they wanted to do something big? They released 2 multiplatinum albums.
While the industry was totally a buzz over VR, Axl and his Guns N' Posers band were a joke of mythic proportions, he and the band were a fucking punchline, because the year before his tour was canceled, and he caused <GASP> yet another riot because he no showed a gig.
It's funny, Axl fans like to moan and piss about how everyone takes up for Slash, be it fans or the media, and then in the same breath they say Slash was a has been and no one cared about him or his career... THAT is the true hypocrisy.
