#11 Re: Guns N' Roses » Tommy in Bass Player Mag » 847 weeks ago
Are you insane....Paul has no resume and Tommy has a very large one. The biggest one out of any new band member. For God's sake. They are polar opposites in regards to credibility in the music industry.
That is true, but, no offence, the best thing, certainly in Europe, that Tommy did was play bass in Soul Asylum - and believe me probably even only the hardcore Soul Asylum fans will know that. Whereas Huge just for being a friend of Axl Rose's alone - never mind a long-time contributor who, more recently, helped get the CD era off the ground(!) (perhaps we even have him to thank for the band even existing today, based on some of the things Axl's said) - and working on some of 'old' GN'R's latter hits, will be a bigger name - hence resume, as per that industry.
Take out Axl Rose, and neither have majorly outstanding (even though Stinson's is still substantial and respected - let me just clarify), world-known resumes anyway: whereas, again no offence, Finck will, because of NIN.
#12 Re: Guns N' Roses » Tommy in Bass Player Mag » 847 weeks ago
That doesn't really seem to really berate Finck though as some of the posts on forums were suggesting. Also - Huge's resume always struck me as slightly similar to Stinson's own.
Thanks neemo. I didn't think that bit was what everyone was talking about.
I so wish someone had asked him about working with Buckethead - I would love to hear if his views have changed on that.

Yeah, and we also have to take into account that he didn't just say these comments today. This could be a month old(or older), so God only knows whats happened since, and Tommy pretty much admits that nothing is set in stone.
Tommy states somewhere in the interview that they (may?) begin rehearsing in or around February.:) Didn't BBF say they had already begun 'jamming'?
Can someone point to the Robin Finck and Tobias bits - I can't find those. If it's the Westerberg bit: well, I thought he was talking about his time with Westerberg?:/

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I seem to recall your alter ego starting more rumours than "LatigoHammers".
What rumour have I started here?
I am just reporting what some guy posted at CD.com. I have said I have no idea if it's real or fake (although naturally you always have to lean to fake in these cases).
I got stuff wrong in the past (nobody's perfect) but I moved in - even poking fum occasionally at myself for doing it.
Maybe in future I'll just keep such *findings* (it may of course be BS) to myself.
And LatigoHammers... was that darknemus? I don't think that situation was ever properly cleared up.

Yes and?
BTW: if United win tomorrow, it will be on course to be red for a second year running!:mosh:

Touring around an album that nobody bought isn't going to sell seats either. There's only one option for selling seats to a GnR show, and Axl made it clear that isn't happening.
This just reminded me of one other in my view fairly important thing I saw lately but have not yet reported. CD was, a couple of weeks back, part of the "two for £10" offer at HMV in the UK. The album itself was about £5 (circa $7.50 US?).
I knew then the project had failed. There is time though -and something *big* has to happen soon.
GN'R has done this before but in my view the present GN'R and the present (music) climate (complicated by such issues as downloading, low sales, etc.) make this scenario extremely unlikely and certainly a rarity in today's world.
As I said, the NIN direction is not the direction for the GN'R name. It needs to model itself on U2 - and if more albums are coming, it certainly is more logical.

[...] Axl moves to the beat of his own drum, when Axl is ready then things will roll
I agree and that's what sucks for the long-time, devoted fans like us on the boards.
I believe he probably will tour and promote this further though in some capacities later, but I believe this general 'silence' and such will continue for long periods as this is what has characterised the GN'R world so often of late. And that is where the huge and overt anti-climax comes from. It's sad - really. (And is probably not any one person's fault, IMHO, though there are of course guilty parties.)
IF they tour, that would be cooperating with promoting the album, wouldn't it? Unless it's AFD tour #4.
I believe at least a new tour will at least see them tour behind the new material. Like Bumblefoot said a while back. Logic cannot dictate otherwise at this point - even in GN'R land.
GN'R cannot afford 'empty seats' this time. No AFD tour this time around - my bet.
It'd be one thing if they never discussed videos, but Axl came out and said the video would be released soon. He should've just kept his mouth shut about that.
When exactly did Axl's forum posts occur (as I wasn't online too much around then): early December 2008? Plans could have changed since then - and of course, 'Pygmy' guy (who posted that thread) referenced Axl's posts in his correspondence.
Olorin - good post.

The curious thing to me is he has Azoff onboard, so if he is not happy with CD's delivery then either Best Buy and co breached their contract/agreement with how this thing was to be released or Azoff has screwed Axl.
Good point and I've not read (or thought of) that before.
I have been curious as to why Azoff appears to have got off scott free with no abuse from Axl. He is the bands manager, surely he knew what was agreed and what wasn't. What the role out plan was to be etc etc.
Again there's time... unless Azoff 'did his job well' and it was the record company that f**ked up.
Either Best Buy or the record company hasn't held up their end of the bargain which I thought would leave Axl with some sort of recourse. If they have held up their end of the deal then Axl and/or Azoff appear to have agreed to a shit house deal that allowed the current circumstances to eventuate??
We already saw one f**k-up in the Dr Pepper fiasco so again you may be right.
No way any of that info can be confirmed 100% true until the passage of time
Well 'Better' was released in November and it's close to mid-March. This guy first made his post in early December (2008) by the way and now seems to have been proven right....
[...] The days of people thinking there should be an asterisk next to GNR just because its GNR need to come to an end.
Ahh but that's a contradiction James. How can there be 'no asterisk next to GN'R' when, as you then say:
Its amazing that every other artist/band is able to release videos, do promo, etc. except GNR, because there are these phantom Mt. Everest sized obstacles always in the way.
If that's not an asterisk I don't know what is.
I agree it's hard to buy (though similar things have happened before and it can be a f**k-up at both ends): 15 years and this kind of thing could somehow not be figured out?
Some of the wait was in vein - not even big time nutswingers like (if I can mention his/her name) Warchild can doubt that one now.

James or someone said something like, 'They had 14 years to sort out all this stuff (promotion, video, etc.)', a while back. He was right.
These are not the words of 'ungrateful fans', Axl. These are the words of fans who chose to embrace the 'new line-up'/post-'99 GN'R/post-Slash GN'R. I always said - like many hyper-realists - that 2002 was the better era, due to the energy and zeal Axl (and the band) had for the music back then. As people on here have again said, this stuff would have fitted in with what I call the 'Plan A' era better than this frankly tedious (and promotionless) 'Plan B' (now moving onto 'C' by the way) era. I was watching a 'year 2000' look back special on Kerrang last night. Saw bands like Limp Bizkit, etc.. Thought to myself, '"Shackler's Revenge" would have fitted in with this stuff sooo bloody well'.
The album rocked, but this lack of zeal and enthusiasm for the project - or rather, the failure to use the 14/15 years wisely enough to plan and execute the 'great comeback' - sucks for not just all who put their hard work into this over the years (Bucket, the producers, etc.), the band, but the fans like (us?) who were for nearly a decade and a half not just predicting but anticipating and promoting his great comeback.
Not to detract too much from the original topic (it's quite late here anyway) - but let me pose the question: did anybody, in the last 3-5 years before November 2008, see it all play out like this?

From the same thread (page 4):
Beta revealed in a fan personal message over at MyGnR Axl is very upset the fans are blaiming him because of no video at this point..Out of his hands or refusing to take responsibility, anyones guess.
