To be fair, though, this:

"I apologize to anyone I've inconvenienced or put out in any way."

Is all I wanted to hear. Not a justification, or an evasion, just a straight-up apology taking responsibility for the late shows. 'Cause what annoyed me, having been through the experience of a late show, and seeing casual fans leave disgruntled, was seeing the constant stream of jokes about how he's never been punctual, ahahaha.

So, y'know, fair enough. He apologised, and I'm happy with that.

I dont buy it. At first I thought the apology was cool, then he went on to say:

"perhaps you'll find some comfort in that I'm sure I've lost tens of thousands, if not millions, more - especially in the long run."

Which rubbed me the wrong way, its like he's said "I'm sorry, but...wah wah wah poor me too".

Anyone from the UK who knows the politician John Prescott? - this unholy mess of words here could have come right out of his mouth:

"And in our defense addressing the nonsense, the relatively small majority of which percentage wise being in general what we feel are at least somewhat reasonable or justifiable such as technical difficulties, crowd control issues, health or injuries, managerial/agent nonsense or simply beyond our control and often as the case may be more hype than reality which again (and definitely not taken for granted) with all things considered, eventually has seemed to work out fairly well."

I mean, what is he trying to say there, apart from "its not my fault"?

I know!  I'm at work right now, just got in and having a coffee, I got to the "multiple answers" bit and thought, wow, I better come back to this, not enough time, or brain power to try and get through it right now!

I did like this though:

CA: Will these Australian shows be an extension of the Appetite For Democracy tour? Or something different?
AR: We'll let ya know!

Just made me chuckle......

I know people don't want to believe him, but hasn't Dizzy mentioned working on new music as a band without Axl of course?  Maybe not with EVERYONE but Axl, but more than just one group member coming up with ideas on their own.  I see no reason why they can't jam together and create something to propose to Axl.  And I was under the assumption this had been done.

Yes, Dizzy has said pretty much that.  In fact yesterday Blabbermouth reported an interview, with the headline "GUNS N' ROSES Keyboardist DIZZY REED: AXL ROSE's 'Work Ethic Has Really Rubbed Off On Me' - gotta love Blabbermouth's headlines, you know they'll pick the most contentious words from an interview and use it as the headline!

Anyway, Dizzy said this below, and this is exactly why I posted Ron's interview up, its awesome he will just say it how it is compared to what Dizzy always says.

The Maitland Mercury recently conducted an interview with GUNS N' ROSES keyboardist Dizzy Reed. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

The Maitland Mercury: When GUNS N' ROSES released "Use Your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II" simultaneously in 1991, you became the biggest rock band on the planet. What are your strongest memories of that time?

Reed: It was definitely a pinch-myself-every-once-in-a-while situation to see if I was dreaming. But it I had known them before they even got signed and Axl [Rose, GUNS N' ROSES lead singer] had talked about having me in the band from very early on and then to watch them become so gigantic, I was always wondering if it was really going to happen. But he's a man of his word and when they were ready to start tracking those songs and those albums he called me and I got a phone call a couple of days later from Del James who was putting together the press release and said, "Congratulations, you're in GUNS N' ROSES." When I joined the band, they were chartering this jet that we used to fly around on everywhere for those three years. So I toured with a major band for three years and one day I was sitting around with some of the guys in the crew and they were all telling bus stories — stories about things that happened on the [tour] bus. It got to me and they said, "C'mon, Dizzy, what are some of your bus stories?" and I said, "I've never been on a bus." But, you know what? I've been on a shitload of buses since then. I prefer it these days — I like being on the bus and rolling down the highway.

The Maitland Mercury: It has been reported that Axl has written a lot of new material. When might we be able to hear some?

Reed: There's a lot of material that is in the can and there's a lot of ideas that we've been throwing around. Everyone's been sending stuff back and forth, and there's a lot of stuff ready to go. When we're ready to make that step, it will happen. It will happen quicker than the last album, let's put it that way.

The Maitland Mercury: What's it like to work with Axl on writing songs?

Reed: You know, I can't really imagine what it would be like to not make music the way he does it. Working with him has taught me a lot. He's a bit of a perfectionist, I guess. Because of that it always brings out the best in everyone that's working there [in the studio], and also out of me. You need some tension to make the best recordings you can make. It's easy to get something that sounds kick-ass and just roll with it and say, "Hey, there it is. We're done." But everything should have a second go around — or three — to make sure it's right. I think Axl's work ethic has really rubbed off on me.

The Maitland Mercury: Are there a lot of misconceptions out there about what Axl is like as a person?

Reed: Absolutely. Of course. Unfortunately, in the world we're living in — especially today — negativity sells. That's all people want to know about. When you make it to the top of the heap, everybody wants to knock you off. Things have always been like that. The more a person fights that, then the more it gets thrown back at them. If you took anybody and just presented all the negative things about them — a lot of them untrue or exaggerated — then you're not going to think too highly of that person. So there's misconceptions, definitely.

Do a poll, what would you prefer to hear:

1) New album from current line-up
2) New album from vault

I'd want to plump for number 2 because I'm curious. But then again I know Axl would copy n paste to probably remove Bucket for Ron and Robin for Ashba, and it could be the mess that CD turned out to be.

But then again, number 1 would be interesting to hear what these guys could come up with, a more straight ahead grand rock album.

Sadly both options seem rather far fetched at the moment though.

We mentioned in the thread about the London show how Ron talks his mind, maybe because he has alot going on outside of GnR, and could happily make a living teaching, and doing soundtracks etc, so losing that monthly retainer wouldnt be so much of a risk....

This interview below just appeared on Blabbermouth.  I like Ron a lot, and here's why (underlined).

Asked about the possibility of the current GUNS N' ROSES lineup releasing a new album in the near future, Thal said: "You know what?! Just forget about a new record until it happens. I mean, I can't even begin… How long have we been talking about a new fucking record? And I'm the only that doesn't bullshit you people about it and I say, no, we haven't been in the studio together; no, we haven't started writing together as a band."

He continued: "If something came out at this point, it would be very old material that is just being released now. So it would be unheard material, but to me, I don't consider that a new record, I consider that just releasing old material from a band that doesn't exist anymore. And we need to make an album of this band right now. And I hit up Axl [Rose, GUNS N' ROSES singer] again two days ago. I was, like, 'Hey, while we're in Australia, let's make some music. Let's work on some stuff.' But we'll see what happens.

"I'm all about making music; that's why I make music — to make music. So I'd like to really do that.I would be very happy if GUNS N' ROSES could do that. We'll see what happens. That's all I can say. I mean, at this point, we're just doing shows and doing shows and doing shows. And the shows are great and we're having fun and everything. But I've got the itch. I've had the itch for a long fucking time. I wanna make some music with these motherfuckers. It's a damn good band and we should really have the opportunity to give what we can to all of you, and make some music for you.

"If anyone reads any of my long-ass interviews where I am ranting like I am right now, you know how I feel about it and that's what I'm about. All I can say is, look, it's not up to me. It's gotta be unanimous, so I hope unanimously at some point everyone says, 'Alright, let's just put life to the side, everything to the side, and just focus on this and make it happen and make some music together.' I think it would be fucking great, and I hope it happens.

"But as far as seeing a new album in the future, I don't see it in the near future, no. It's gonna be a while — if it's gonna be with this band writing from the beginning.

"So, yeah, there's reality for you. I wish I had something better I can tell you, guys, because we all want the same thing — we want new music; me and you."

I don't really think they care tbh.

That's a shitty place to be for the fans, and the guys in the band isnt it.

Thing is, if its true, and Axl / Team Brazil dont really care, its not like they can come out and say it, be straight about it, they gotta keep the pretence up. So when DJ says their writing, and want to record, it serves Axl well, even if they are 100 miles from doing any of that.

$lashba being mixed so low is obv on purpose. someone somewhere along the line has obv decided to do it out of spite. not saying it was a GnR decision, but someone in the line of production must have an issue w/dj & chosen this as a way to get at him.

You'd think someone along the line would QA this and go, "hang on, this mix is bad, where's that guitar?" and it would get sorted.  Unless they are all out to get Ashballs, which I dont think is the case.

Its just another lame thing, like the CD cover being wrong too. If I were Axl, I'd have given someone a right ear bashing over this, its inexcusable for a bRand of this size really.

It's insane, that's what it is.  I cant get over the fact that I'd feel like such a chump wearing them out and about. Plus, round my way I'd probably be mugged for them, so they could be sold on in some cash converters store.

And watching the videos, these things seem great if you do extreme sports of some kind 99% of the time and want to film it, or risk death by being distracted by the weather while doing a 360 superman on a trails bike.

Google ran a campaign on Twitter #ifihadglass asking people what they would do if they had these glasses.

Levi Burton responded:  "#ifihadglass It would be a downgrade. -Geordi La Forge"

I thought that was awesome.
