Re: Ron says 'Just Forget About A New Record Until It Happens'

We mentioned in the thread about the London show how Ron talks his mind, maybe because he has alot going on outside of GnR, and could happily make a living teaching, and doing soundtracks etc, so losing that monthly retainer wouldnt be so much of a risk....

This interview below just appeared on Blabbermouth.  I like Ron a lot, and here's why (underlined).

Asked about the possibility of the current GUNS N' ROSES lineup releasing a new album in the near future, Thal said: "You know what?! Just forget about a new record until it happens. I mean, I can't even begin… How long have we been talking about a new fucking record? And I'm the only that doesn't bullshit you people about it and I say, no, we haven't been in the studio together; no, we haven't started writing together as a band."

He continued: "If something came out at this point, it would be very old material that is just being released now. So it would be unheard material, but to me, I don't consider that a new record, I consider that just releasing old material from a band that doesn't exist anymore. And we need to make an album of this band right now. And I hit up Axl [Rose, GUNS N' ROSES singer] again two days ago. I was, like, 'Hey, while we're in Australia, let's make some music. Let's work on some stuff.' But we'll see what happens.

"I'm all about making music; that's why I make music — to make music. So I'd like to really do that.I would be very happy if GUNS N' ROSES could do that. We'll see what happens. That's all I can say. I mean, at this point, we're just doing shows and doing shows and doing shows. And the shows are great and we're having fun and everything. But I've got the itch. I've had the itch for a long fucking time. I wanna make some music with these motherfuckers. It's a damn good band and we should really have the opportunity to give what we can to all of you, and make some music for you.

"If anyone reads any of my long-ass interviews where I am ranting like I am right now, you know how I feel about it and that's what I'm about. All I can say is, look, it's not up to me. It's gotta be unanimous, so I hope unanimously at some point everyone says, 'Alright, let's just put life to the side, everything to the side, and just focus on this and make it happen and make some music together.' I think it would be fucking great, and I hope it happens.

"But as far as seeing a new album in the future, I don't see it in the near future, no. It's gonna be a while — if it's gonna be with this band writing from the beginning.

"So, yeah, there's reality for you. I wish I had something better I can tell you, guys, because we all want the same thing — we want new music; me and you."

I'm not saying Ron's wrong of course....but my only questions would be...

Did they write together "as a band" for CD1 and did that happen with all the guys in the studio together? As my understanding is that whole album was intricately crafted by Axl and his editors piecing together stuff people did pretty much in isolated sessions.

We know Ron played on songs that arn't yet released....so it's entirely plausible CD2 could come out with a whole bunch of vault tracks now with DJ added.....and if Axl has a bunch of half finished ideas around that's sure not that unlikely is it?

So i get what Ron's saying...like the current line up hasn't sat down and recorded an album in the traditional way...but as cool as that would be to hear (and I hope it happens eventually) I guess I'm just saying while Ron's right that it's going to be a whole if it's done from the beginning...by all acounts there's an album or so worth of stuff that's almost ready and not near the beginning....

Do a poll, what would you prefer to hear:

1) New album from current line-up
2) New album from vault

I'd want to plump for number 2 because I'm curious. But then again I know Axl would copy n paste to probably remove Bucket for Ron and Robin for Ashba, and it could be the mess that CD turned out to be.

But then again, number 1 would be interesting to hear what these guys could come up with, a more straight ahead grand rock album.

Sadly both options seem rather far fetched at the moment though.

I want a double album one from Chinese vaults and another from this lineup but Ashba should have as less input as possible

YEah I don't think I could choose...Axl's my favourite songwriter so I just want whatever else he can finish up first - if that turns out to be the current line up that's cool - or if it turns out to be stuff that was almost done last time busted out of the vault that's cool too.

I lean toward choosing the vault just cos starting fresh might take even longer.....and it's possible the vault has rasp axl tracks stashed away.....but that said....I don't understand why people don't want ashba involved...he's been a really interesting writer with sixx am - lots of synth and tar stuff....add in Axl's mojo and it could be really interesting.

Exactly.

I know that some fans here are hoping for a late 2013 release of old, CD-era songs, but hey it won't happen. If there was any plan, Ron wouldn't have been talking negatively about it. It'll be years till those Finck/BH/Tobias leftovers will be released, if ever. I don't think that Axl wanna make a new album in his life.

Maybe because he`s shitty "guitarist" ? does n`t have enough skills to be a lead guitarist ? I don`t understand why is DJ Ashba in Guns N`Rosse when Ron and Richard are excellent guitarists they can handle guitars just fine without Mr. "look at me I`m such a rockstar" Ashba. Maybe because everything he writes is generic, mediocre, emo pop rock dirge ?

Re: Ron says 'Just Forget About A New Record Until It Happens'

What concerns me is Axl seems to have completely lost his interest in being a musician. In 4 years this band has never once sat in a room (axl included) together and tried to make any music. Even if its just for fun to see what they might end up with. It seems he has no passion any more to be in the studio or create anything new, which is a massive shame. If we ever hear anything new again it'll be 02 era music, the process from writing/recording to releasing is such a long one with Axl there's no chance we get new music from the current lineup before about 2028.
