#231 Re: Guns N' Roses » Ron shares GNR Tid bits while on a live stream » 654 weeks ago
Brought a vile of hotsauce on tour and gave Axl some at dinner. Axl's head broke out in welts
-Gave same stuff to assistant and burnt the shit out of her lips
Was it really the hot sauce or he mentioned he wanna record at the same time?

What a great song and singer! I'll have to check them, it was surprisingly good!

Sounds very promising. I like the idea of different singers for the songs.

Not to put words in his mouth, but I think I remember Bono offering to fight Axl once to demonstrate that Axl's stage bravado to fans is based on the wall of security between them.
I actually disagreed with that...there's plenty of times when Axl's stones have got him his ass kicked...especially against police...I think when he's really angry he just doesn't care what happens.....
VH vs Slash is an interesting argument....they're both immediately recognisable players on a recording - VH has the innovation in that my understanding is that he's pretty much responsible for the tapping era and thus that part of the evolution of metal. Slash on the other hand is one of the absolute guitar heros of his generation - and I think it rock of all time - he's got a killer catalogue, iconic image - and while he's perhaps not an innovator - he stands above the others who did a similar style before him - and his ability to bring something to a song or band is pretty much unparalleled.
It's probably a case of saying is salty food better than sweet food....they're both amazing....Slash is my all time fav so I'll give it to him...but you have to respect the tapping master too.
This. EVH was an innovator guitarist, one of the most important ever. He wins technically. However I think that his innovations limit playing in a long run. Tapping is only interesting if you don't overuse it.
On the other hand, Slash was the leader of a renaissance. He's THE GUITARIST, he and Hendrix if you ask people to name one. I think his playing is much more versatile, emotional and had more effect on people. His stuff is harder to replicate. Also, his stuff is full of guitars, be it riffs or solos, while some of EVH's music is just a pop song with a tapping solo.
Talking about guitarist, I think EVH's and Slash's influence is probably the same: enormous.
Anyway, I love Slash's playing and appreciate EVH's, but there's no way I'd beat up someone for siding with EVH.

buzzsaw wrote:I thought the Slash show and GnR show I saw last year were about equal. Slash was awesome, but there's something about Axl singing those songs (even poorly at times) that is just special. Nobody plays them like Slash and nobody sings them like Axl. I have to say the Chicago 92 show was better then both, but the setlist for that show was just awesome.
Yeah, and the youtube clips just don't do Axl justice. I'm not saying that he sounds amazing live, but it just ain't the same.
Neither pro-shots, I guess.
Believe me, this is how he sounds. Just the live show's excitement and the volume hides it for people who are there. To tell the truth I thought that Robin played well in the Budapest show, 2006. Then I listened the recordings...no shit.
Therefore as much as I enjoyed Slash's show last month, I checked it on youtube. He and Myles and the band was even better than live, cause I could hear clearer everything (the whole arena was singin' every fuckin' song, including his solo stuff - the only exception was Serial Killer that not many knew).

Awesome.
Slash was on top form. His tone is like amber nectar and technique spot on. He is such a cool mofo aswell!
They played civil war, rocket queen, scom, you're crazy, jungle, pc from GNR, slither and then ghost, Anastasia, AL, back from Cali and a bunch of others from his solo albums. The GNR stuff sounded more authentic than GNR!
My highlights were the solo in Rocket Queen, Anastasia and the Godfather.
Axl's such a dumbass to not get back with this guy. But I'm not too concerned, Slash and his band are a great and at least they produce new material!
I wholeheartedly agree. Slash's show a month ago was one of my best 3 live experiences. It did top even the old GN'R show I saw in 1992. The guy is awesome. The energy and musicality coming from him and his band can hardly be topped. I wish I would have taken some days off and would have followed him more on this tour.

I couldn't imagine Axl anywhere else than Guns N' Roses. Not even in a hair band.
Soundgarden, maybe? That's about the only place I could see Axl jumping from GN'R and it "working".
I can't see any band with Axl working.

He's not exactly prolific. Just discovered he did this:

Thanks.
However, it's not more interesting than an everyday guitarist playing in his bedroom. Wasn't bad at all, but not something worth recording.
