#241 Re: Guns N' Roses » Time Magazine considers the leaks Chinese Democracy » 898 weeks ago
Imagine those new Songs with that powervoice....how would be the review then?
A+ all the time?
I dont think its necessarily the voice that causes the songs to be bad or to get less than favourable reviews in some quarters. I feel its the fact that the songs are pretty ordinary and several of them poor, high pitched vocals or not that causes negative reviews and criticism. It'll always be a case of 'we waited x years for this?'. Its not the vocals on 'Song 2' or Madagascar or Better that let them down, its the fact that theyre really pretty crap songs anyway.
I did laugh in the Time review when he said it was a woman singing parts in Better Cue another 2 years in the studio.....

Load of bullshit no doubt..... The perfect time to pretend you have leaks, just some little gimp trying to drive people mad....

#244 Re: Guns N' Roses » Axl writing Autobiography & the sequel to "Estranged?" (RS) » 898 weeks ago
Yeah it went from this amazing shit he put everything into and then when it didn't get the response he expected, all of a sudden it was nothing more than a demo.
Kinda sounds familiar...
Too funny, same old excuse 9 years on... Go Axl!
Anyone got his spiel about OMG being a demo after it crashed and burned, I'd like to see that....
Good work on the Balin appreciation btw James, if you want any Airplane stuff, let me know....

I think this is what he's referring to:
Lol, that didnt make any sense.... just ramblings trying to make a crap song appear deep.
I guess the former members had taste, its quite possibly the 3rd worst song in the GNR cannon. Did Axl say it was a demo when it flopped critically?

Wasn't knocking Balin. I actually like Hearts, and the Jefferson Starship track Run Away is fucking great.
Was just trying to put these various ballads into a bit of perspective that doesn't include two tons of hype.
Don't feel like waiting for Chinese Democracy vol.2? Guess what? You don't have to!
Go to Itunes and download these tracks:
Marty Balin- Hearts
Al Stewart- Year of the Cat
Brenda Russell- Piano in the Dark
Simply Red- Mellow My Mind
Bob Seger- Shame on the Moon
The Cure- Lovesong
Jim Croce- Time in a Bottle
Journey- Don't Stop Believin'
Rod Stewart- Love Touch
Chris Isaac- Wicked GameBurn it and write CD on the disc.
Wait OVER.
Will check some of those out. Prob not Simply Red though, just cant abide the man! One ginger balladeer is enough for these ears.
Funny though but I was listening to Dont Stop Believin yesterday and thought it was similar in many ways to a lot of the CD stuff but a hell of a lot better imo. I love that song, its a real guilty pleasure, especially since it featured in the Sopranos so prominently. I'm going to listen to it right now.
Ah Axl, 14 years to sound like Journey. Well done. I wouldnt be surprised if theres a cover of it on CD.

The album went from the hype of Kashmir to the reality of Marty Balin's "Hearts".
Hey lets not knock Marty Balin..... sure Hearts is lame but the guy ruled in the Airplane, one of my top 5 bands of all time.....!
Never thought I'd see his name on a post about Chinese Democracy though. Too funny.

'He's like the George Lucas of rock,' Bach marvels.
Yep, he took something fantastic, chopped and changed it again and again, tweaked it and tweaked it til it turned to shit.
As for the General being a 'slow grinding track', didn't he say exactly the same thing about Sorry? Doom metal or something??? We have enough slow songs on this album, grinding or not. Everything Baz says just gives me the fear or is downright annoying. They may as well ask Beavis & Butthead to be the official spokesperson for GNR. The sequel to Estranged - i.e a long balled about Stephanie Seymour. Someone ran out of ideas many years ago it seems.
Pessimism aside, an autobiography would be most interesting, I reckon it would be painful reading and may finally give us a better insight into the world of Axl and his side of the whole GNR thing. I'd hope hes objective and not just blame the whole world for everything but we'll see. Some chapters will be pretty thin though I'm sure - '1996-2002 - got out of bed, tried writing a song about Stephanie, went out, bought some rap clothes, went back to bed'.
#249 Re: Guns N' Roses » FBI pay a visit to leaker of "Chinese Democracy" Rolling Stone Article » 898 weeks ago
Wow, really seems like Axl & Co are trying to out do Metallica in the alienate your fans stakes.
The FBI? Have they got nothing better to do? A sad day for GNR and its fans I feel. Its come to getting the Feds knocking on your door just because you want, and want to share music by your favourite band that dont have the balls/ability to release an album. Its only Axl (and prob Geffen or whoever) who have themselves to blame. The hoarder fella should just unload everything he has to the net and take it from there. He'll be getting a visit no doubt anyway, so may as well go the whole hog.
I know theres laws and everything and I disagree with music downloading as a whole as it takes away the chance for smaller bands to get a foot on the ladder. But a few 'demos' leaking isnt going to kill the buzz for an album that has such a myth attached to it. Theres no such thing as bad publicity, and the leakers and the guys that listen to the songs are the only ones actually promoting 'GNR' and keeping the name out there. The 'band' certainly doesnt have the ability to do that themselves. Axl should be grateful that people still want to listen to his mad warblings.
I think the main problem is that Axl just doesnt want the fans to scrutinize and dissect a bunch of songs that have taken so long etc etc and come to the realization that for the most part they just aren't very good. They've already slipped off my playlist. I'm currently listening to LA Woman - and that came out 37 years ago, certainly more longevity than If the World (If The My World more like, its that bad).
#250 Re: Guns N' Roses » Differences in the "old" new leaks.... » 899 weeks ago
Its funny that this thread has deteriorated into a Slash v Buckethead thing - 2 guitarists that left ages ago. Come on people, its not 2004 anymore, Buckethead is gone, get over it. Stop living in the past Theres something called Bumblefoot on guitar now, jeez, get with the times....
So what we have deduced is: Buckethead is very talented on guitar, and so is Slash - no argument there. Slash wouldnt fit these songs, ok fine. He probably wouldnt, - but the new guys prove time and again that theyyre very good at butchering Slash's work, but what sticks in your head more? The solo for Sweet Child, or the solo from Rhiad? Thats the crux of the matter really isnt it?
You can take take a song like If the World, Madagascar, Better and whack a great solo on it, an unmemorable solo mind you, and tweak it more and more, so what? You cant polish a turd.
A good song is a good song, regardless of whether some freak shreads a million notes over the top or some other guy sticks a bluesy solo on it. The difference now is that we really dont have many good songs from these guys, a trend that doesnt seem to change from leak to leak really, try and tell me IRS is a classic and up there with anything off UYI (except My World obviously). The only gem is TWAT, especially solo wise and please just tell me that first solo doesnt sound like Slash to you.
What did you get into GNR for? Was it for synths? Multiple piano ballads about some bird that fucked off 10 years ago? Songs that sound like Evanescence (song 2 off the new leaks), or flamenco funk?
The point isnt the talent employed to play on the songs, its the songs themselves. We all know Buckethead is good, but the songs on the whole arent. Not too tricky really.
Right I'm off to listen to If the World... Oh maybe not, its rubbish.
Just my opinion......
