#21 The Sunset Strip » Do you think downloads affect the charts in a good way? » 818 weeks ago

Just read this in the Gnr forum:
If a deep album cut from Heart's Bad Animals can chart, then just about anything can.
Do you guys think that's a good thing?
I kind of do, because it gives the charts a chance to be about what people are really buying right now, and not just what some gakked-up record company exec decided to spunk his end-of-tax-year money on, or some reality show shite that's been hyped into the top of the charts.
(and that's not to be negative, I like a lot of new release chart music, just saying those as a bad example of what the old charts were about in the days of physical singles/CDs etc being released.)
Informed comments/opinions anyone?

I spent time on AIM tonight with a friend of mine who's 1500 miles away and another who's 3000 miles away convincing them to like and purchase Chinese Democracy
And it just now hit me; FUCKING WHY
Maybe you wanted to spread some of what you liked?
my mum used to go on and on about this great author Jeffery Deaver (sp?) and fuck me,, she sent me his book the Coffin Dancer & she was RIGHT.
that's not about being involved with the guy (she's never met anyone in that world) and not about being "Team Deaver" or whatever the hell, just about making sure the people you care about and/or whose taste you know get to hear about something good you found.
Just my take on it - I mean if I suddenly discovered some old dead blues act who lit me on fire I;d push them to everyone I know, and it;s solely about the sharing.
Dunno if that reply's relevant to what you're really asking, just saying was that a motivation for you? Because it's happened a lot for me in my life.

I am sick and fucking tired of RAIN..........................ARGGGHHHHHHHHH.
Works for me today, doing shifts, got 4 hours sleep last night, and I've been in working all day, this way no need to shower or run a comb through my hair, just stick on a hat & baggy jacket and I'm golden to go out for some groceries & wine.
Every cloud has a silver lining... or least some skanky guy under a pullover, with BO....

and you could take that one step further and say people are hearing the band's name and thinking that they are relevant. forgetting about the actual headline within minutes.
With some reservations, I actually agree.
"didn't clear a sample" is a different level of credibility to "copied songs" - most chart music these days uses samples and stuff, it's something people are really familiar with now (not like say the early 90s etc).
If it was that piece by that guy, they didn't "copy" it anyway, as in try to pass off his creative insoiration as their own, they just used it. Small diff but quite important when it comes to most people hearing the story, and imagining as has been said Axl etc unable to write their own stuff.

You're right, somehow I was, yes, irritated in the last 2 days. True.
Anti-fungal cream, works a treat!

I realize you're kidding, but I can't think of even 1 user here that could be classified as "worshiping a fake band"
wot, no Bratz fanz?!
#28 Re: Guns N' Roses » GNR Sued For Copying Songs » 818 weeks ago
I think this is the first time I;ve ever genuinely felt for the band, I guess mainly Axl but everyone who's been working on ChiDem all these years, it must just seem never-ending.
I mean, I saw this report and just wanted to say "oh, not AGAIN!"

Are Reuters mainstream? Coz they broke the story and the headline said "Record labels sue Guns N' Roses for copying songs"
Makes it double weird for the BBC to be so accurate, then, because I thought they got news feeds off Reuters? They must have looked at the story and decided to go with a less sensationalised headline.
I was teasin' about the forums but actually it is pretty cool.
They should do it as a single, offer that guy a chance to remix it or something as a B-side, he gets his fifteen minutes in the spotlight to build on (or not) according to merit, and the band come out of it looking like princes.

Hmmmmn... in an interesting example of mainstream media being more even-handed (and accurate) than GnR fan forums, BBC news' headline is "Guns N' Roses sued over 'sample' "
Not "plagiarism" (HtGTH & MyGnr), not "copying songs".... a sample.
Just saying....
