#21 Re: Guns N' Roses » What Steven brought to GNR » 112 weeks ago

Steve’s drumming was definitely an important part of the GN’R magic. I think about Rocket Queen in particular. All 5 dudes were equally important on that song. Phenomenal stuff across the board.

Izzy said “nothing worked” after Steve was kicked out. You can definitely hear a loss of magic in their sound on the Illusion albums. Bunch of good songs, but the sound was not the real deal Guns N’ Roses.

Sounds pretty damn good. Do you have a copy of Evader's version? Would appreciate a PM from anyone who has it. Thanks!

You’re probably right. I wish I still had that crappy cassette demo because I could swear that solo was different

Nah, it’s the same solo. Just much better quality. Even if nothing else was included in the Locker leak, I was really glad to get a full quality version of Brian May’s Catcher.

Very encouraged by how they’ve transformed Perhaps into a very good song. I see more potential with Atlas so can’t wait for this

I mean perhaps was already a good tune. And vocals were there. The Atlas vocals we heard were a mess, maybe another demo had a better vocal take or hopefully a later take with more rasp and grit.

I dunno, the Atlas demo vocals remind a lot of Axl's voice on Catcher In The Rye (all versions of it). It's undeniably Axl, which is all we can ask for...especially when he goofs off with unrecognizable vocals on tracks like Absurd or My World.

They fade out Finck’s solo, which seems disrespectful to the man. His curving melody from 1:41 — 1:43 sets a certain emotional tone that holds up the entire transition from the chorus to the solo.

He deserves writing credit. Partially to reward two decades of patience while this great song gathered dust.

If we are all a bit crazy from waiting to hear things in the vault, imagine how the musicians must feel.

To be fair, Robin and others were given a pretty good salary while Axl sat on the couch for years. Those guys had a pretty good job overall.

The final version of Catcher in the Rye is a disaster. Massive waste of potential.

The one off the village disc is perfect. I said it when the leaks happened that I believe catcher, perhaps, and atlas were all linked together. At least in Axls mind. Kinda like a trilogy but not that deep.

Thank God the locker leak happened. Finally got a clean, high quality copy of the Brian May version of Catcher. The old leak from 2006 was pretty low audio quality by comparison.

Mostly negative comments on YouTube in recent hours. People really do expect the band to be like AC/DC and just repeat Appetite for Destruction over and over for decades.

The trolls are now going to steer the narrative.

It's a genuine hit...their first this century. The charts speak for themselves.

Yeah, screw the haters. I'm glad we've gotten some movement on at least 4-5 songs in the vault so far (including Shadow of Your Love). Hopefully we continue to get more of them trickling out of the vault every couple years. Eventually we can have a big enough collection for a full album.
