These ongoing "negotiations" should be for Axl and his revolving door of session players (most of whom have now bailed or are bailing) to release Chinese Democracy as a solo album. It would still prove his superior musicianship and what he brought to the table during Guns heyday. Anyway, release it as a solo album and just bury the fucking hatchet already. We want it. They want it. C'mon. This is going to happen sooner or later and it looks to be sooner and sooner every week. You want to take some of the juggernaut cost of Chinese Democracy off your back, Axl? Just spit it out there and let it fly. Get back the original Guns N' Roses, record an album with Slash and co. and tour it. Your label would make so much money they'd be shitting green. No more bitching about the cost of CD.

Agree with you there Von. Relaese CD as a solo album (because thats essentially what it is anyway), get the real GNR back together and kick some ass.

The world is fed up with a 'band' that cant release albums (if they even know Axl & Co still exist). A real GNR reunion/tour/album would be world news, pretty much Pink Floyd scale. Its just Axl's ego that is a stepping stone unfortunately.

Heres hoping it happens. Would love to see what they have to say on that 'other' site.

#292 Re: Guns N' Roses » So who on here would go to a GNR reunion? » 908 weeks ago

If a reunion tour happened I'd be there like a shot, however much it cost and wherever the first gig was. Same with all my Guns loving friends from back in the day - they say they'll all be there. The same guys that wont even consider listening to the new 'band'.

It will happen I'm sure. Its quite obvious that Axl & Co cant get anything done. Its only a matter of time.

I'm sure somebody just got them confused with each other. After all they are still linked by most of the world even if they havn't seen each other for years.

Can you imagine it:

Girls (to Axl/Slash) - Its Slash/Axl!! Cool!

Axl/Slash - Arrrghhh....

#294 Re: Guns N' Roses » Robin back in NIN. Temp or not is the question? » 910 weeks ago

I don't think hes gone permanently. I'm sure he's just on loan. I wouldn't be gutted if he was, I always thought he was pretty unimpressive.

It just seems odd for someone to spend 10 years of their life working on something and then jump ship just as its (supposedly) finished and edging towards a release. Maybe he got fired!

On the topic of Boy George, I'll send you some of his post Culture Club material when I'm near some high speed.

Ok ,nice one, I look forward to it! Cheers

Don't laugh, but Boy George should be an option on the table. The guy has progressed from the 80's heyday. Has some interesting stuff released independently in the UK that is a total mesh of genres, and is easily capable of recording an album with Slash, Duff, Matt, and (insert guitarist here).

They should throw George and VR into a studio for a week and lock the doors.

Might be surprised what could come out of the project.

I will laugh! And we might be surprised at what would come from a session, but we'd also be surprised at what we would hear if Dick Van Dyke joined the band.

Poor Slash would end up held hostage tied to a radiator if George got his hands on him. Thats all he is famous for here in the UK, being a coke fiend, imprisoning escorts, and meeting Princess Di in 1983 or something.

Call up Mark Langegan, hes friends with Duff and Iz (it'd be great to hear what the admin of HTGTH would say if that happened, being such a fan of Lanegan).

Who will it be? I havnt been this excited for quite some time about VR.

I think it would be career suicide to have Bach in the band. How long did it take him to make an album (that pretty much sucked)? Sure it may bridge the gap to Axl and theres nothing I'd like to see more than a reconciliation, but thats not going to happen.  I'm sure the VR guys dont need a character like that around them for their health and sanity just like they dont need a smacked up bipolar Scott Weiland or a loony Axl. Baz has a good voice, sure, but the man makes Beavis and Butthead look like Freud or something. Angel Down did nothing for me, and thats the Axl tunes too.

I certainly didnt see his album on any best of year lists, but then I dont read Sebatian Bach fanzines or Metal Sludge.

I hope VR find a singer that can truly help them shine and show their full potential. I think Scott just wanted a band and music that fit his comfort zone and as a result held the other guys back. 2 cds of shit that Slash and Izzy wrote? Sure..... You have one guy one on side who wants nothing to do with GNR slating 2 guys from GNR who in Slash's words 'wrote the best GNR album' and stuck them on those cds. Was it th best 'GNR' album? Im sure it wasnt, but I'm sure it was pretty damn good and better than we have heard from VR so far, on the whole. I like Contraband and Libertad but you could make one really good album from the songs on those two and it still falls below what they are capable of.

Good to hear they are working with someone, but its early days yet. They need a good solid rock n roll singer, doesnt need to be a name. They just need to be natural - we all know what these guys can do when they want to.

So who do we want to sing for VR? Well, I like the Chris Robinson idea, had been thinking of him for a while since my interest in the Crowes was reignited. Would he fit? Probably not. But it would be good to hear something by them.

My personal choice would be John Garcia of Kyuss, Unida, Hermano. That guy has some pipes, puts on a great show, and can write a good tune. I think he'd be a great addition.

But we shall see.....

Good luck 21

#298 Re: Guns N' Roses » CD update from record execs, it's 2006 again » 910 weeks ago

Doesn't really tell us anything does it? Ok, Axl has been playing songs for execs, as far as we know, he has been doing that for years... At least its not just strippers or shady 'collectives' now. Lol.

So he has been playing 6 new songs to these guys?

IRS
Better
TWAT
The Blues
Madagascar
CD

There you go, thats six which are new songs (to those who have not been following this stuff for years).

I still expect it to be a trainwreck, and suppose it already is! Sure the leaks we have on the whole are good, nothing in them is amazing or truly brilliant. I can imagine the only reason that BH is still on the album is that a) the company said 'enough is enough, get it out there' or b) that they cant make music as good as someone who left the band several years ago. I did laugh James when you mentioned the nut who said IRS was 'truly epic and would be as big as Stairway to Heaven' Blind fanboyism at its best! - IRS isnt fit to shine the shoes of the weakest tracks from In through the Out Door IMO.

Sure CD the song has its moments, as does the Blues (despite being 'GNR-Lite'), as does TWAT, but songs that have been in the making for a decade are not going to sound 'contemporary' as we have already seen. Maybe Better could be considered so, but in my opinion, its truly awful anyway.

Agree with James that the solo on TWAT is very Slashesque. When I listen to that track I can alway visualise the man playing it, cigarette in the mouth. The solos on this song are the only truly great thing I have heard from these guys and thats a shame. A guy that left years ago playing a solo that sounds a lot like someone who left even longer ago. Contemporary? Nope, just nostalgic - and I'm sure these guys are not looking for that in any way.

Oh well, any news these days is good.

#299 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Velvet Revolver "fires" Scott Weiland » 910 weeks ago

Oh well, we all saw it coming for a while. I love the 2 VR records but have always thought that Weiland was an odd for for the band. He was great live when I saw them I'll give him that, but I think that with a better fit of frontman these guys can do an album a million times better than they have already. I'd love to hear those 'really bad Bad Company 80's tunes they did with Izzy' i.e in Slash's words, the greatest GNR album ever (or something like that).

I guess that the mudslinging over the coming weeks will be interesting and I wouldnt be surprised to hear that in a week or 2 VR will have ended completely. As much as I like STP I think with Scott's behaviour the only way is down for them too after they cash their reunion tours checks. The Deleo's must be thinking 'Oh shit, this boy's on drugs'.

Still, I hope VR get a new singer, people should stop mentioning Bach on all the sites, I bet his vocals are more of a jizz gargle than actual singing these days.

Go on Slash, call up John Garcia!!

Cynicism aside, it finally looks like the ball is rolling and the album may actually be released. However if theres a Dr Pepper voucher in there, I'll be downloading mine thanks.

if you download the album, regardless of the reason, you are a theiving lowlife scumbag.

Lol. Thanks. Good to see you back. 14

I would actually download it off of Itunes if it was any good, and I'd certainly buy a hard copy if it doesnt have a Dr Pepper voucher inside becuase it dont agree with the corporate bullshit that entails (although I understand thats how it is these days sadly sad). But like with 90% of the public these days I'll download it somewhere else first to see if it is worth my hard earned cash. 5 years ago I'd have just listened to someone elses copy first, same principle isnt it? Also because I'll get to hear it 3 weeks before it hits the shops. I cant imagine you reading the boards for 3 weeks and the discussions the album will generate without itching to hear it? You'll be on the torrents the second it leaks just like everyone else. Or will you still be at home listening to Silkworms live waiting for the release date?

There are many bands whose work I'll buy on the day it comes out because I am a hardcore fan of them and want to see them prosper. I dont see any harm in downloading an album to see if its worth actually buying, so far in the last few years I and a lot of people here I reckon have saved money this way to spend on bands they really like who deserve the support and albums that are actually worth the money. Downloading is also a good way to introduce yourself to new music and more often than not will lead me to buy music by an artist that I'd not usually consider e.g M.I.A. I have found many a gem this way and as a result bands have had money from me that they wouldnt have otherwise got. Sure, there are a few turds that'll get a spin and are promptly deleted but thats how it is.

Do you copy music from friends? Or allow them to do the same? Have you ever done this? If so you too are a 'thieving lowlife scumbag'.
