The OP poses an interesting question.
It's only a few weeks ago that some guys on the forums were 100% sure that the tour would be a failure. And some of us (me included) were a bit nervous.
Monkey touches on some good explanations.
I thought of another thing.
When you get older (like in your early 30's), 5 years doesn't seem THAT long ago. I mean, almost all of us remember clearly what went down in the world of GNR around '06.
But stop and think for a minute. Trunk noticed that a large portion of the audience were very young. I don't know what he conciders young. But let's say 18-19 yrs. Those guys were 13-14 yrs last time GNR toured the US and most likely weren't allowed to attend the shows back then. And when your 13-14, that's usually the age when you start to settle in on your genre of music. So it's safe to say that these kids have prolly been itching to go see Axl/GNR and hear all these great songs performed live. And maybe even some of them got really into ChiDem. At least from the videos I've seen, the ChiDem-songs seems to be recieved well at the shows!

anyway gnr has a good thing going right now why dont we take it when we can get it huh? lets be nice to each other...lets try it once please see what happens...apparently faldor hasnt posted here for a couple days...thats friggin great...we have few enough regular posters and positive ones at that but we seem to be able to drive them off slowly but surely...i hope he comes back
Imo, the high tolorance of douchbaggery (yes, it's a word!) on this site should be reconcidered.
It's basicly 2-3 people that has the ability to turn every other thread into a fuckin' warzone.
Sure, people feel "safe" to vent on the internet, due to the anonymous state we're in.
But fuckin' hell, the type of behaviour from this minority wouldn't be tolerated anywhere else in society. So I doubt they act anywhere close to that in real life. And if they are, they're prolly very lonely people.
If people started to discuss and disagree with each other like you would if you where face to face, this would be a better place. That is not to say things wouldn't be heated. And it shouldn't! (You should witness the arguments me and 2-3 friends get into over nerdy stuff like Apple vs. PC/Android!)

Ya know, I've thought about this tweet a few times in the last couple of days and I gotta tell you; it bothers me a little.
I realize they're saying Axl has/had bronchitis and all, but what about "Guns N' Roses killing it for 3:07 hours"? Or at least acknowledging Ron for literally playing with pain?
I thought about that as well (though not for days)

Funny. It'd be cool if the rest of the band, Axl included decided to do the whole show in a Halloween costume.
Didn't they do this at Jacksonville in 2006?
Does Axl and DJ really need a costume?

Despite this, he continues to play three-hour shows with the group, which is scheduled to perform at the Bi-Lo Center Arena in Greenville, South Carolina tonight (Monday, October 31).
As previously reported, Rose gave an hour-long interview to VH1 Classic's "That Metal Show" yesterday (Sunday, October 30) — a couple of hours after the band's headlining performance at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. The chat will air on November 11 as part of VH1's "National Metal Day" (11-11-11).
Rose gave a rare interview — his first in-person one with a print publication in 14 years — in December 2010 with the United Arab Emirates outlet Gulf News. Rose granted the interview prior to the band's gig in Abu Dhabi.
"Chinese Democracy", the 2008 album released by the current edition of GUNS N' ROSES after a 15-year wait, was officially certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) on February 3, 2009 for shipments in the United States in excess of one million copies.
Aside from Billboard and Spinner interviews and answering a number of fan questions at a GUNS N' ROSES message board, Rose has done no promotion of any kind for "Chinese Democracy".
GUNS N' ROSES kicked off its first U.S. tour since 2006 on October 28 in Orlando, Florida."

I've said this before and I'll say it again; I'm not for turning this place into HTGTH2.0 but god damnit if people can't just be positive for once.
A forum member who calls shit down the middle goes to a GN'R show and loves it; not possible. Axl does an hour interview with That Metal Show; not good enough. The first two crowds have loved the show; lies. Duff is opening some shows; awful idea.

Something is wrong when people are coming out of the wood work to post things like "this is why I don't post here anymore" or I'm getting PMs about how negative the place is.
My first reaction to these negative sad little douchbags, is to ignore them. But it gets kinda hard when they hijack almost every fuckin' thread. Even hitting the "ignore button" doesn't really work, you still see their posts when others quote them.
I may have posted this before. But Joe Rogan fuckin' nailed it regarding negative people on the internet. Especially the part 03:52 - 05:24
