I still like TSI as well, the guitars sound so heavy and so do the drums. It's a fun covers album and isn't meant to be seen as anything otherwise.

Nice words man, I agree, it sure has been one hell of a journey. I can't believe it's taken 15 years of my life for this album to finally see the light of day, but it finally happened!

Maybe I need to listen a few more times to let it "grow" on me, but I think this album, lyric-wise spends too much time wallowing in it's own self pity of lost love etc

And while that was ok on a few tracks in the past, I think it dominates this album too much. This is a really deep emotional album that I think you have to be in a certain mood to listen to.

The one thing that is the saving glory on both UYI albums, on even some of the not-so-great songs is Slash's guitar playing and solos. I still listen to this day and go "fuck that is some killer guitar!" 9

And I agree, Yesterdays is very underrated.

Without so much as starting an old vs new debate, and there are plenty of those topics already, who here thinks that CD stands up to the GN'R name alongside the other albums and music?

I've listened to it a few times all the way through, and unfortunately I'm mostly kinda put off by it because there's either way too much going on or it simply makes me cringe at times. For every moment that makes me go "fuck, that's awesome!" there are just as many moments that make me shake my head.

Late on Friday night they had an hour of GN'R videos back to back on one of the cable music channels, and I dunno, as great as some of the stuff is (in places) on CD, it doesn't really sit with the other GN'R material too well. That is as far as becoming like, classic music that I'll be listening to in years to come.

So, I've found it best to consider it an Axl solo project.
I know music is subjective and all, and I' try not to be critical of it because of this, but stamping the GN'R name on it I think really does this album a disservice.

I still think it's a damn shame if Robin has left to go back to NIN for good. Finally the album sees the light of day and he's not even there to get any recognition for it.

I think the only way this new band could get some kind of credibility going is if they get Robin or Bucket back, or hell even Paul Tobias, as those 3 seem to have the most influence over the album guitar-wise.

#3868 Re: Guns N' Roses » Who has the album and when did you get it? » 877 weeks ago

I got it in Australia today (Saturday), but apparently it's been out at some stores since Thursday. I got it from JB Hi-Fi and it was cheap too - only $19, when most new release CDs are $25-$30!

#3869 Re: Guns N' Roses » Chiense Democracy streaming in full on GNR myspace tomorrow » 877 weeks ago

I've always sung pretty high praises about Robin's playing style, but his solo on This I Love just sounds so disjointed!
It gets better as it goes on, but man, I was really cringing listening to it.

Catcher has way too much going on now too. The original greatness of the song is lost with all the extra layers of stuff on top. Makes me wonder if I'd feel the same way if I'd never heard the demo.

The whole "too many cooks in the kitchen" saying springs to mind listening to this. I'll still give it a fair chance when I actually listen to the CD, but I'm kinda turned off a bit so far.

I didn't say that, I said it's hard to accept that he thinks there is more interesting guitar on this album than UYI. I mean, aside from some weird sounding and shredding guitar solos, I don't find the riffs that interesting. Most of the riffs are power chords.

And that's not saying I don't like the songs either. I just think from a "guitar" point of view, they're not that interesting.
