I really like the added guitars, but I can't quite get used to the guitar on top of the "bubbling" sound/effect right before the "All that i wanted...." part.  So good to have the song out there, though....amazing.

you gotta think, to people other than the hardcore motherfuckers... AFD was perfect at the time for the mainstream... UYI was an ambitious project by a band that was on the verge of being the next Zeppelin/stones/aerosmith.. and CD is being released to an entirely different musical climate.

I agree with a lot of your post(s), but now I disagree. AFD was against everything that was popular in the mid-late 80s. GN'R was the out-of-glam rock band, which didn't sing about being a cowboy and ride a Harley, going to a drive-in movie with your girlfriend etc. It was heavy, really heavy, both musically and lyrically. It wasn't Unskinny Bop, it was Welcome to the fuckin' Jungle and they changed the whole landscape, while none of them, including managers and company bosses, thought it would be successful.

And I agree with 95% of what you wrote, with the exception of your last sentence.  Given the bidding war that went on over GN'R, certainly managers and record companies knew the band was something special, and something worth fighting for.  I doubt very much that a bidding war would have ensued over a band people didn't think could be successful.  I know getting the Jungle video on the air took some doing, but once it aired, that was that.

Me, I think *any* campaign is monumental.  I've said it before, but it bears repeating.  I NEVER would have checked out any of the leaks if I actually thought the album would come out before I hit 40.  I really didn't think it would happen.   Hat's off to Azoff & Gould for getting it out.  I hope it's only the beginning, but if not, at least I'll have an album in my hands.

I hope you're right. And that pic of Fortus is probably my favorite I've ever seen.

I agree.  I don't exactly know what the hell he's doing in terms of playing, but it look really, really cool.  smile

And I can't imagine the site posting pics of anyone who isn't currently in the band when it's this close to the release (hence no BH photo, which I was disappointed to see).  I'm hoping that Bucket is still in the booklet.

I'm logged in, and still can't access the 04-07 links.  That said, I've spent most of the day reading the previous years.  What an amazing compilation of information.   Thanks for all that!

I know I'd be disappointed.

Just to restate something, I'm confused about how prominently Bucket is featured in the booklet.  Ideally, it would mean he's in the band and will be touring.

But if nothing has changed, it sends a very misleading message to both new fans who might make CD their first GN'R album, as well as old fans who are "rediscovering" Guns or trying to get over the fact that Slash & Co. are gone.  There's a line to walk, fine or not, between giving Bucket the due he deserves and misleading fans at this point.

If there was a "Guns 'N Roses is:" part of the booklet with the current lineup, then it would be a non-issue, I guess.

To clarify my earlier comment - given how many musicians have come and gone during the recording and writing process, and that all "new" members (Ron, Frank) essentially got to play on CD and somehow make their mark, I was honestly unsure about how much of Bucket's work would be left on the finished record.  Ron re-writing or recording some of the parts seemed possible, for instance.

I suppose my larger point is this - I think many people in the "general public" still expect Slash & co. to be in the band.  It made sense, at least to me, to really promote the lineup that fans will see if they go to a show on the CD tour.  For that reason alone, I was surprised at how prominently BH is featured in the booklet.  Bad enough that "generic music fan" still thinks Slash is in the band, but then picks up CD, goes to see them expecting BH to be in the band, and then finds out otherwise.

Personally, I am a huge fan of BH and his work, and am glad to see he's all over the record...hell, I"m still hoping he signs back up now that the record is coming out.  I'm just surprised is all.

I'm a bit stunned at just how much Bucket is all over the record.  It's says a lot that the first two pages of the liner notes feature Axl and Bucket, yes?
