That's fair...I mean don't get me wrong I am very pro the usa...

I just mean like the differences are so pronounced (eg cold war era history and the modern power grabs globally) that we don't seem to notice what we used to have in common with them too.

Like for example lots of Europe is roman catholic, lots of the USA is protestant, lots of Russia is orthodox - heaps of stuff to disagree on there but fundamentally they are all under pinned on variations of Judeo-Christian concepts and thus ethics.

It's hard to put it without sounding really racist but I think like compared to say china or some of the arab nations that just have a completely different outlook and framework under pinning their societies.

Just like pre-20c russia to me doesn't seem all that different to say pre-20c EU countries culturally.....whereas China is like a whole different thing.

If what you view as cool is the sort of biker outlaw type vibe the AFD/UYI band delivered then I think it's reasonable to say that the 200x era band was a different beast.

I dunno if I'd put that entirely on bucket - I mean sure he does his robot horror chicken stuff and that's kooky-fun, but Robin was the only one dressed for NiN, Tommy looked like he was in an English band, Axl seemed to be fronting NWA or something, and Paul looked like a dude forced to give a presentation to the class. I loved it as it's own thing...but I mean he's not the first guy who wanted to see AFD2 and then saw that new line up and raised an eyebrow.

That said, I dunno if DJ was quite suited either - I always thought he had more of a crew vibe about him. I think he would have been better filling in for Mick Mars in some alternative universe. I mean in fairness...no one is slash except slash....and it didn't help that the band never moved on from CD1.

I met DJ a couple of times and he's a good dude in person so I wonder if these remarks are kinda out of context, I don't think he intended to be trashing bucket, no one in their right mind who plays guitar would!

I'm not sure that's entirely fair. I mean, with Hard Skool they clearly stripped out the extended intro and rejigged the structure, and I'm prepared to bet that was all Duff ("Why is there a minute of guitar noodling at the start? Drum crash, bass line, off we go.").

Fair enough, I'm just saying I think the next batch really needs that kinda reworking all the more.

Like to me Atlas is the basis for a really good song - but it needs that something else that slash tends to bring - it feels to me like estranged without the guitars would be - still cool as fuck - but unfinished feeling even if these were due for release once upon a time. So i just hope Slash and co get in there and add stuff and move stuff around and complete them the way they always would have if the band had remained together all along.

Like I think about how Atlas would have evolved if it had been given to 1990 slash, back before all the trouble....that's kinda what I wanna see done to these.

State of Grace is another example...to me this song sounds insanely kickass...but it doesn't really have much in the way of guitars from memory....so I hope they do more than have slash play chorus chords over the ending etc.

I guess the example that bothers me is that middle layla section of hardschool - maybe it's just not to my taste - but it seemed to not have a point on the original or the remake to me. But then i do like the more zep style absurd we got. So there's hope.

In a world full of vastly different cultures it sometimes surprises me that the USA and Russia have so much tension.

I mean as I understand it Russia is big on family values, heavily christian, reasonably traditionalist overall, and has a strong history of literature arts and music. Now that we're past socalism vs captialism you'd think USA and Russia have more in common than against each other in some ways.

At least compared to some of the asian and middle eastern groups that really look at life a completely different way.

It would be cool if USA and Russia could be more like relations are between UK and USA - where both sides are fiercely independent but don't actually need to compete and generate bad blood all the time.

I will be interested to hear what slash and duff added to the other songs.

On the other tracks it sounded like they just muted the old guitars and recorded slash over - which while cool isn't as much as I would like to see Slash do on some of the others. Like Atlas to me was the basis of a really cool song - but it's current structure without anything else it sort of went no-where - it was a bit like if we'd heard estranged with no slash guitars. What I'd like to see is slash add stuff to them properly...like add in a new guitar melody to go with the verses or a new bridge or something but I think the nature of this project (keeping most of the existing instruments etc) means we won't see too much of that.

Some of the songs like State of Grace I think will be great to have finished though.

I guess i'm saying i'm fine that they're doing CD2 songs, by wish is that it was more collaborative creatively - but from the last batch it was more like Slash and Duff took a finished song, and just covered the bass/guitar parts and left it otherwise.

Oh god really? I saw the 1 min title teaser last night and got mildly excited that it might be something fun to watch. Rookie mistake to me I guess.

Like seriously. At this point it's not even about agreeing or disagreeing with the message it's just straight up that the repetition of the message is boring as fuck.

Imagine if every movie you watched there was some point made about woollen socks vs cotton socks. A character decides to go from one to another, or someone else is warmer cos they only have one type, or someone needs some socks, or someone has never seen cotton. Like at some point it's just like even if you believe one type of sock is better or that there's no such thing as socks or whatever - it's just like how about we tell a story just once that isn't fucking sock themed.

Like surely even the people who think there are 52 genders and they are a different one each hour or whatever must be getting sick of listening to people talk about it. Like I really like to drink Coke. But if Indiana Jones and Han Solo discussed coke in the middle of their movies I'd find that a touch boring.

Yeah i'm drawing a hard line at the killing of pets.

Like I'm ok with being asked to wear a mask at the shops because I see it as sort of a manners thing. Like it's not that hard for me to do and if it helps some more vulnerable person with cancer not get sick or whatever then that's kinda worth a minor inconvenience to me.

Like how as a kid you might just sneeze anywhere but then your parents teach you it's better etiquette to cover your mouth with your hands (or eventually elbow etc).

But yeah, I'm not going to be killing small animals thanks.

^ I can see your logic there but it's too many people.

Here we have unvaxed at 6% of the population yet more than 50% of ICU and ICU is at record numbers.

#400 Re: The Sunset Strip » Bob Saget dead at 65 » 225 weeks ago

Not trying to have a go at you, but I just don't think it's a reasonable proposition to say that someone's words make them guilty of a crime - especially when they are attempting a style of humour.

We know Saget was a professional comedian, we know that he is both intelligent and articulate and well versed in the art of comedy. The idea of this joke is to disgust the listener before the punchline.

It's not therefore unreasonable to say he might have put some imagination, book research or thought into making the topic realistically grotesque without actually committing the crime in order to perfect his craft as a comedian.

I mean people write movies about wars, rape and all kinds of things without actually having done those things in the entertainment business.

I agree what he said is disgusting, but that's the point of it. Arguably it's a distasteful style of humour. But I don't think it's reasonable to deem him a perp based of it.
