Wow...this thread has spun wildly out of control...I am not going to resort to name calling or tantrums...however, I have to admit that I'm pretty sick of James' take on things and its ever present existance in this section of the site.
It's quite obvious which side your on...you could tell in many ways. First, this newswire section consists of more articles slamming Obama and pulling up dirt on him than any other candidate/candidate supporters (Biden, Palin, McCain). Second, you could read a single one of your posts in this section...it's quite clear where you stand. It's also quite clear that you dislike liberals, or democrats...or whatever you wanna call 'em (please avoid addressing this single line of text, if you choose to respond, respond to the whole thing).
Fact is...you're a moderator on this site. You're posts over the past month or so (since I've been paying attention) and probably longer are more than "just the facts" or "for your information" type posts. Just because you get an article from a reputable source doesn't mean you've done your job. You spin any article you can in a negative light.
You're hardly using this privilege as a conversational tool...you're using it to voice your own agenda. That's cool, I guess...but like I said before, you're a mod here...you have more of a responsibility than any of us make sure things are flowing along smoothly, not start fires and add gasolene to them.
No one is saying you can't speak your mind, but for christ sake censor yourself just a little. Two things you should never talk about in life are religion and politics...but if you're going to...be respectful and use some tact.
Discussions are one thing, throwing dirt around is another.
When the hell did being a moderator on an internet forum require you to be the enforcer of objectivity? You can argue he has a responsibility to prevent name calling in excess and in the interest of freedom of expression, an obligation to let all sides be heard (though this is his site and he can do whatever he wants with it [Much like Jarmo and HTGTH]). No one should have to censor their views simply because they hold a position of authority on a message board. Interesting you don't apply the same standard of objectivity to your own posts.
If you go back five - eight months, you'll see that James as well as almost every other poster was calling McCain an idiot and the downfall of the GOP. No one was claiming the mods had an obligation to provide pro-Republican articles when the majority of posters were endorsing Hillary or Obama.
Just because you don't like seeing articles that portray Obama in a negative light doesn't mean they should be pulled. There are thousands of articles from wack-job left wing sites like DailyKos and Huffington Post that attack McCain and Palin if you want to "even" it out.

Stanhope is the shit. I think he's starting the downward spiral, but I've seen him twice and drank with him once and he' a cool cat. Definitely my favorite comedian.

I was very impressed with Palin. I thought she was going to look like a fool. While she was no college professor (and very few ever are) she held her own against Biden and brought up relevant points. Her answers were enough to suffice the intellectual elite, but they weren't meant to be.
Both her and Biden did an excellent job that serves to throw the spotlight back on Obama and McCain; exaclty where it should be.
#4084 Re: The Garden » Europe further up shit creek than United States » 919 weeks ago
Any attack on European soil will garner an American response. I personally believe a full out response. Europe is our closest ally and the American people would support the defense of their nation, especially against Russia.
You have to look at the bigger picture. If Russia attacked the EU, it would essentially be forming an alliance (maybe not written out, but at least spoken) with the middle east. It would be WWIII. There's no way America is going to sit around and watch Europe disolve. We have troops in almost every European ocuntry and are intsalling missle shields there as well. There's no way we'd let those assetts be taken.
From a logistical standpoint, it could certainly be done. We have Brigades back here on breaks and plenty of National Guard and reservists. People wouldn't get time off, but with the sense of importance that would coincide with such an attack, recruiting numbers would jump and the American people would rally behind it. It's highly likely the draft would need to be brought back. The excessive amount of casualties that would occur against the Russians would require more troop support. - This is what would make or break the US. Right or wrong, 99% of Americans feel no obligation to serve in the military anymore. Forcing a substantial portion into the military would have major repercussions. From a military perspective, the draft is always a bad thing in terms of quality of troops. There is never enough time to train and adapt them to military life and often they have lousy attitudes; which lowers morale and causes confusion which leads to deaths.
Militarily, I have no doubts the US would win any war; assuming we used everything we had. This opinion is further strengthed if we had the support of Europe. The question is what cost are we willing to pay for a decisive victory?

Indeed. I call dibbs on England and Germany helping us fight Russia, China and Iran. I can't forget our pals the Aussies ( Ilove you guys over here) to help out too.
Disband the European Union and only agree to alliances that benefit you, rather than rebuilding old Sovier Bloc countries.

Considering Obama is estimated to have an IQ around 140 and graduated from Harvard Law, I'd say it's pretty cut and dry that he is a smart man. Biden was elected to the Senate before he was legally allowed to take office and has remained there. You don't stay in Politics long unless you're savy and able to think on your feet- both indicators of intelligence.
The fact that they're educated is even more reason to respect their positions. It shows that they're well read and presumably able to entertain an idea without embracing it.

I'm more interested in how a person gets to a conclusion or policy agenda then the overall policy itself. Of course tehre are certain parameters I want people to work within, such as the constitution and the market. Palin may have the right conclusion on somethings, but how she gets there is completely ass backwards or worse, she can't explain why she holds that view.
That was my favorite thing to do in college. Go through the Socratic method with hardcore leftist and try to get them to explain why they advocated something. I certainly did the same thing with the Republicans, but called them many more names when they said some bible thumper bullshit or in the even rarer occasion, racist garbage.
Palin could have been a real breath of fresh air. I over esitmated her ability to deliver the most basic arguments supporting the Republican agenda. Some of the questions she bombs on are shit I could have answered in high school. If I were gonna try to play partisan games, I'd say she is just camera shy. But she had like 70 million people watching her at the GOP convention and she did fine. That just tells me she definitely can't think on her feet and maybe she can't think at all.
That's the one thing I can't knock Obama on. I may not like his policies, but no one can argue honestly that he and Biden aren't extremely intelligent individuals.
#4088 Re: Guns N' Roses » How many times have you seen GN'R live? » 919 weeks ago
4 times. Had plans to see them in 2002 in Columbus, OH and Pittsburgh, Pa, but none of my friends would go and I was too much of putz to go by myself. I'll never make that mistake again.
#4089 Re: The Garden » Palin flunks mock debates » 919 weeks ago
She's a total fucking idiot. Definition of tits hooked to a life support machine. People like Palin are the reason the Republican party is failing. Rather than well thought out and reasoned arguments, Palin is using emotional appeal, the trump card the liberals (and Bush to a much lesser extent) use to push through their agenda.
I respect McCain, but I got nothing for Palin. She is really a total dipshit who lives in her own little world. In the unlikely event McCain wins this election, Palin needs to be asked not to run as VP again in 2012. She can go back to Alaska and pop out more retards (cheapshot I know, but I say if you're good at something, keep doing it).
#4090 Re: The Garden » McCain still having a tough time looking Obama in the eye... » 919 weeks ago
Why do you buy into these stories? This is garbage spread by the Dems to make Obama seem stronger. Remember, Obama is viewed as the soft or weak candidate. McCain is the "warmongerer". If they can get people to believe that a man who spent 5 years in Hanoi Hilton is scared of Obama, then they can use this garbage to say the rest of the world would fear our might under Obama.
Who the hell cares if McCain doesn't look Obama in the eye or stays and chats. Did you ever think that maybe he doesn't like the son of a bitch? Let's be objective about this. Why would McCain have any reason to fear Obama? Is Obama going to hop across the table and belt him? This is all hype from Obama supporters trying to make themselves feel better about a candidate who in his prime, probably would get has ass handed to him on a silver platter.
