#4221 Re: Guns N' Roses » finally a decent straight forward comment regarding CD » 905 weeks ago

That is the formula for one musician's release.  I take your point, but I think that this album doesn't need the promotion a standard album would receive.  I also don't expect CD to be sold at 15.99 either.  By cutting promotion cust to 1$ per CD and increasing the cost of the album to 17.99, Geffen will gain $5.10 per cd sold.  13,000,000 / 5.10 = 2.55 million records sold to break even.  As I said earlier, I expect CD to far exceed that number.  There will of course be itunes sales and other methods to make income as well.  The most important factor will lay in places like this though.  Members who openly admit they will download the album or share it need to be banned.  I know the whole napster thing left a bad taste in people's mouth, but this is the perfect example of how people sharing music can hurt the industry.  We're not talking about downloading a song that has already sold millions, we're talking about preventing an album from ever being released.  If CD fails commerically, there will be no sequent releases.  There is a difference between sharing leaks and sharing the actual album.

I don't see why not.  Let's assume it cost them 1$ per cd to create (I think it's actually lower than that).  CD will easily go double platinum.  Hell Velvet Revolver attained those numbers, so one of the most anticipated albums of all time should easily hit that mark.  At an average sale cost of 18$ per album, that would net 34 million in profits.  Obviously some percentage of this would goto GN'R, but very little as album sales is not how artists get the bulk of their paycheck.  Let's say 8 million goes to GN'R out of this number, which I think is a generous assumption.  That leaves 26 million to the record company.  Subtract the supposed 13 million already invested into the album, and we're left with 13 million.  13 million to promote the album.  This all of course doesn't include online sales and deals made with 3rd parties for licensing of the songs such as the Harley commerical.  I think CD will exceed my conservative estimate of 2 million in album sales, which will result in even more profits as I don't see them using the 13 million in profits already existing totally on advertisement.

CD will turn a profit.  I don't buy into the multiple albums idea.  I'm sure they have hours of canned recordings, but Axl laying down lyrics and mixing more than one album's worth of songs is a pipe dream.  CD will be a commerical success by objective standards.  But it will never live up to the hype that has continually grown around it.  This album would have to be nothing short of the greatest album in all time to justify it's perpetual delays.  Since music is subjective, CD could never obtain that title even if by many peoples standards it was.  For this reason, CD will be considered by many critics and probably some fans as a failure.  You can't please everyone.

Its strange how you pick certain parts of some of my posts, add your own little spin to it, and then try to pick it apart.

I wasn't referring to you James.  Take a deep breath and relax.  I was referring to Polluxm's belief that humans were guided by a higher intellect in our evolution.  It's not always about you.

How does it prove that?  Alchemy existsed and was believed to be controled by magic, thus easily explaining why a battery could exist.  If Aliens affected mankind, don't you think they would teach them a more efficient way of making a battery than the one shown?

No evidence of Atlantis exists.  Depending on whom you listen to, Atlantis may have existed along the North American Coast or in the Mediterannean sea.  There is no evidence of any lost civilization other than hearsay and a slight reference in Plato's Republic (it may be another one of his works, don't recall off the top of my head, and even still, no one knows if he referred to it literally or as a metaphor since he never claimed to have been there).

Why do aliens have to be involved for early civilization to make a very rudamentary discovery?  The chiese had fireworks and gunpowder during the same era and are equal in complexity to this discovery.

On as series of key Election 2008 issues, voters generally trust Democrats more than Republicans on most key electoral issues. At the same time, however, John McCain is trusted more than Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama on these issues (see national polling.

The Economy

Forty-eight percent (48%) trust Democrats more than Republicans when it comes to the economy while 40% trust the GOP more. Those numbers are reversed when real names are inserted instead of party labels. Given a choice between McCain and Clinton, 47% trust McCain more while 42% prefer the former First Lady. Given a choice between McCain and Obama on the economy, 46% trust the GOP nominee while 39% opt for the Democratic frontrunner. The economy is the top issue of Election 2008 and is considered Very Important by 79% of voters.

War in Iraq

Tracking polls have shown that roughly 6-out-of-ten Americans want troops home from Iraq within a year. However, only about one-in-four want the troops brought home immediately. The gap between those numbers is filled by Americans who both parties have a chance to persuade during Election 2008. Overall, when it comes to Iraq, Democrats are currently trusted more by 45% of voters and the GOP is trusted more by 43%. However, when it comes to the War in Iraq, McCain is trusted by more than either Democrat. Fifty percent (50%) trust McCain over Clinton while 40% hold the opposite view. Forty-eight percent (48%) trust McCain over Obama while 39% prefer Obama.

National Security

The broader topic of National Security is one of the few issues where Republicans have a generic advantage over Democrats. However, following seven years of the Bush Administration, the GOP advantage on this issue has declined. Currently, 47% of voters trust Republicans more on this issue while 42% trust the Democrats more. However, once again, McCain outperforms the party label and dominates against either Democrat. When it comes to national security, McCain is trusted more than Clinton by a 54% to 34% margin. With Obama, McCain's advantage is 52% to 31%.

Government Ethics and Corruption

This is the issue that breaks the pattern. Democrats are trusted more than Republicans by a 38% to 32% margin. Most unaffiliated voters don't trust either party on the topic. Here, Obama outperforms the Democratic Party label and is trusted more than McCain by a 44% to 33% margin. However, McCain is trusted more than Clinton, 47% to 34%.

Taxes

On taxes, Republicans are preferred over Democrats, 46% to 42%. McCain is trusted over Clinton 45% to 36% and by a 41% to 38% margin over Obama.

On average, McCain outperforms the generic Republican label by seven points when matched against Obama and by thirteen points against Clinton. The gap between Obama and Clinton is caused almost entirely by the difference on the issue of Government Ethics and Corruption.

This telephone survey of 400 Likely Voters per night was conducted by Rasmussen Reports April 21-24, 2008. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/- 3.5 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

#4227 Re: Guns N' Roses » New NIN video featuring Robin Finck » 907 weeks ago

Which one is Robin,  neither guitarist are playing a guitar, they're both a 5 string Bass?  Do we even have conformation Robin contributed to the album.  I still see no confirmation that Robn has "left" GN'R.  What we do know is that GN'R has no announcement for a release date fo CD or tour and virtually every member is playing with other people or working on a solo project.  Who's to say that if and when CD is finally scheduled for a serious release date and sequent tour is announec, Robin won't be there.  In fact, I refuse to believe that Robin would totally bail on GN'R as it would do much more for his career as an actual contributor on the album and all teh attention this album will garner than being a touring member of NIN.  More power to him if he wants to play with his friends and make some extra money while Axl fucks off.

#4229 Re: The Garden » so clinton is gonna win PA » 907 weeks ago

I just want to add that 43% of Clinton voters in PA said they would vote for McCain or not vote at all if Obama is the nominee.  Further proving my point that Obama is not guarunteed the votes Clinton brings in.  I'm assuming Obama would pick up PA in the general election, but with both NJ and PA being strong possibilities for a McCain pickup, it's looking more and more grave for Barack.

#4230 Re: The Garden » so clinton is gonna win PA » 907 weeks ago

I'm basing my opinion off of facts at this time.  Anything is possible.  However your opinions are based on gross assumptions.  Someone who votes for Hillary or Obama may not necessarily vote for the other in the general election.  Numbers don't lie.  All I'm saying is I'm ready to hear all the conspiracy theories come November when McCain is announced the next President because he won Ohio and Florida.
