Franklyn is set between the parallel worlds of contemporary London and the futuristic metropolis of Meanwhile City, and weaves a tale of four souls, whose lives are intertwined by fate, romance and tragedy. As these worlds collide, a single bullet determines the destiny of these four characters.
This badass looking UK sci-fi flick from writer/director Gerald McMorrow is in that Dark City vein and I dig it. Eva Green, Ryan Phillippe, and Sam Riley star. This one has "breakout cult hit" written all over it.

EDIT: The video would have gone here before NaziTube started kicking things up a notch and basically fucked us on all levels. My post will remain as my official contribution to this thread. I'll put the real video here if and when I find it again. Otherwise, seek it out.
Elton John - "I Want Love"
I'd been a huge fan of Robert Downey Jr. long before his comeback last year (even if his real comeback was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang). Still, I couldn't be happier for his success. This haunting video always got to me. Great song, too.

I'm intrigued.
Actually, so am I.

I didn't make it out to Gran Torino this past weekend and decided to skip The Unborn altogether. Next weekend I'm looking to start the year off proper when I finally get to see The Wrestler. I'm excited as shit to see that both as a fan of Mickey Rourke and Darren Aronofsky. Besides, the trailer was enough to almost bring me to tears. I'm avoiding any spoilers like the plague because I know most of you guys loved it! Anyway, I'll get to check that out before I head down to Worcester to cover a Cradle of Filth/Satyricon show. Hopefully when I get back home I'll have enough of a weekend left to see My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Botox Brothers for Life!
Not cool.
#456 Re: The Sunset Strip » What do you think were 2008's best horror movies? » 904 weeks ago
Honestly? 2008 was one of the most disappointing years in horror, at least for me. The Ruins was alright, I guess. Nothing to write home about. Mirrors was a real letdown, considering how much I've championed Alex Aja and enjoyed his other works. The best "dark" movie of '08 was ironically The Dark Knight. Yup, a half-decade on from the golden, comeback year that was 2003, horror was hurtin' pretty bad in '08. Here's hoping 2009 sees the genre regain some of its footing. I have high hopes. We've got new Friday the 13th, Halloween, and possibly A Nightmare on Elm Street flicks headed our way. My Bloody Valentine 3D honestly looks badass. Sam Raimi finally (finally!!) returns to his horror roots with Drag Me to Hell. Even the new Underworld prequel is looking damn fun.

I'm hopefully going to see both Gran Torino and The Unborn this weekend.
As for DVD, I recently re-watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind after quite a few years and it hit me just as hard as it did the first time. Jim Carrey's penultimate dramatic performance, bar none.

MTN is an abbreviation for the word mountain. It's even recognized by USPS. They're simply refocusing the brand onto the name Dew, which is what Mountain Dew was generally referred to as anyway. The adoption of lowercase lettering is just a stylistic choice. It's something a lot of companies have adopted over the last decade. It's more appealing looking to some. I think the fact that many people IM or text in all lowercase is merely a (convenient) coincidence. I also think more is being made out of the Pepsi emoticons (for lack of a better description right now) than needs to be. From what I've seen of the new designs that are coming out, I like them. It's actually rather minimalist and classy. As was said, I think Pepsi rebranding itself to embrace a constantly changing culture is simply good business. I don't think it's their intention to insult anyone's intelligence. I also think boycotting the brand over a packaging change is ... a bit much. As someone who only occasionally drinks diet soda, and then usually just as a mixer for other drinks, I think if the change in Pepsi's marketing is that offensive as it reflects the current culture, the culture itself should reflect on why exactly it drinks so much of this crap in the first place. Maybe if we all stopped drinking soda we'd be better off in the first place, rather than worry about how they abbreviate their brand names.

I didn't read past the first few posts because I'd really like to point out that promo and hype and two totally different things. The "promo" many are insisting this album had for a decade or so before it dropped is really hype. Now hype can be a good or bad thing, but it wasn't promo. It wasn't a conscious effort on the record label or band's part to consistently PROMOTE this album via advertisements, commercials, videos, etc. The only promo you could argue was two awkward tours spread across four or five years and they only really served as a greatest hits package and (at least the second time around) were done to continue funding the still not finished album. This album received no promo before its release, whether that be a week before or a decade before. It's receiving no promo now. What it had going for or against it was hype. Please, learn the difference.
And I agree with Gunslinger's first post.

A well-made look back at what many believe to be one of Hollywood's finest years in a long, long time.
