If you were 8 when AFD came out, it makes sense that you'd be geared more towards the 90s alternative music than the 80s Rock music.  Your most impressionable years were in the early to mid 90s.  I'm a little older than you - my most impressionable years were the GnR heyday, and as an instrumentalist, I was drawn to Slash more than I was Axl.  I loved Axl, but not at the same level I loved Slash.  I understand where you're coming from and even why you prefer the new band.

That little note explained more to me about you than the years you've been posting here.  Karma.

I'm not sure any GnR site is ideal for a Finckist right now, but I know you're not going to get a ton of sympathy here with the stance you're currently taking.

Right now, I think Finck may rank below Richard with GnR fans, and Richard doesn't rank very high either...

Well, then using your logic, Axl is responsible for the same thing for Slash and Robin never would have been in the band in the first place.

I watched it once while I was travelling for work.  It was ok if you're into that sort of thing.

I think he's perfect for Queen actually, but I'd still take him in VR.  At the end of the day, I don't think either will happen though.  Not long term at least.

It's not an insult if the original band didn't speak to you.  That doesn't mean it meant nothing to you or that you didn't like it, that just means it didn't have the impact with you that it did with others.  That's ok.  Some people got that with the new band (somehow).  I don't understand it, but I respect it.

Robin will likely never get the chance to shine in GnR, but that is is own fault as much as it's anybody else's.  He made the brutal first impression, he left before CD was released, and he ignored the fans.  I'm not sure what you expect as a result of that...

That just means the band never really meant something to you, which is ok.  To some people, the band and the music played a huge role in our lives.  You can't discount that because you weren't emotionally involved.  Others were.  Some still are.  There's nothing wrong with that.  I understand the people on the other side of the spectrum from me.  I don't always agree with them or get what they are saying, but I can relate to being passionate about the music that means something to them.  I respect it even when I don't get it (like the Robin love for example).

I have always thought of it as my favorite GnR album and probably my favorite album ever.  Surprisingly to some here, I love it because I think Civil War, 14 Years, Breakdown, Locomotive, Estranged, and YCBM are some of the best songs they've done, especially Locomotive and Estranged, so I can live with the couple songs that aren't as good.  The top songs elevate the album so much for me that it survives the weak songs.  When you just listen to the instrumentals, I think those songs plus GITR, and Shotgun Blues are terrific.  I could listen to that album as an instrumental and be just as happy if not happier with the results.

Slash may have hated some of the songs, but you wouldn't know it by listening to him play on it.  The band was so tight.  I think the people that listen more for the music tend to appreciate this album more than the people that lean towards the lyrical side.  Obviously there will be exceptions to that rule, but UYI II to me is musically the greatest GnR album overall musically, and I don't think it's even close to whichever one is second.

he was in the studio yesterday I believe.  All he does is work because bad things happen when he doesn't.

And there's nothing wrong with taking a swipe at Axl's promotion.  It's well deserved and it's only just begun.
