lash claimed that Axl got the idea for GNR recording the song after seeing a screening of the film

I remember that differently. They initially had the Stones version of the song but someone involved wanted to get GNR to cover it. Axl initially balked and then changed his mind.

I remember reading a Slash interview where he said he watched the movie with the Stones version and said he didn't understand why Axl wanted to do a cover, as the movie was "fine" with the original. I think he considered it a favor to Axl..

But anyways, you know what would have been cool? Opening the Not In This Lifetime tour with the song live...

Edit: Nope, apparently Axl really didn't want to do it either, before he saw he movie. The request came from Tom Zutaut:

I really like the record and wish they would play more of it live. Do Ain't It Fun or Since I Don't Have You already. They were singles and have never been played live. Would make way more sense than playing random ACDC covers...

My ranking:
Ain't It Fun
Down On The Farm
I Don't Care About You
Raw Power
New Rose
Black Leather
Attitude
Since I Don't Have You
Human Being
You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory
Hair Of Dog
Look At Your Game Girl

Both b-sides and outtakes in any era of the band.

Outtakes may sound a bit harsh, but yeah B-Sides. There was a reason both songs didn't make it on CD, and considering what else they had in store (at least instrumentally), it's hard to see that they would have been anything more than filler if they made it on CD2.

Slash & Duff have improved Absurd at least to the Bumblefoot version, but I still prefer Silkworms with the original Chorus over both.

With Hard School. Slash's additions made the song definitely worse for me. His lead melody sounds uninspired and boring. The Village Version may not have been perfect/finished, but showed at least more potential in my opinion. They also should not have Frank redo the drums either.

Great news indeed! I wonder if this version of Spanish Ballroom has vocals. I also haven't heard the clean version of Jerk before. I'll definitely check it out

No version that we know of that is...

Tommy talked in an interview about him working with Brian on Riad in the studio. Apparently Brian couldn't figure out his weird chords...

Perhaps sounds like Robin. Apparently Rhiad was the third song he worked on

It´s based on a phone recording from a GNR VIP afterparty. They played The General during that afterparty (i guess it was in 2010) and someone recorded a part of the song. These are the lyrics:

[Chorus]
Do you remember who did it?
Who did that to you...
Who would do this to you?
Who would do this to you? To the young!
Who would do that to me, boy?
Up to abuse, in fact you knew them
Who wants to lose?
To lose
Do you?

[Verse]
I've got hopes and dreams, and I must feel bolder
My hopes, my dreams have died
Now I rest my hate in the rumors as they're pushin' through
There's a child now chained to the bed now
To me it's time I'm always workin' and I'm gonna get out
I think it's high time you should fuckin' die, child
I think this time you've broken everything inside
I won't be ever satisfied
This is why, baby, you know I got you
[Chorus]
Do you remember who did it?
Who did, that to you...
Who would do this, to you?
Who would do this to you? To the young!
Who would that to me, boy?
Up to abuse, in fact we knew them
Who wants to lose?
To lose
Do you?

You mean these lyrics come from that same phone recording that was so bad that you could hardly hear the melody? lol

#48 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Will there be anything for Contraband’s 20th anniversary? » 200 weeks ago

Tie Your Mother Down was recorded during the Contraband era along with Surrender and No More No More.

Back then I thought they should change the name if they didn't continue with Scott, because Scott was such distinct element of the band's identity. Now I'm not so sure anymore. They should have went with Franky Perez after. He and Dave did some good songs, and he didn't sound so bad on Matt's short-lived Deadland Ritual project. He wouldn't have been a huge name like Scott, but more reliable and controllable.

What happened with JuJu Hounds and the Dolls?

That's also something I would be curious about. I remember that he wanted to help them out and played with them for a while, but I don't remember hearing anything about why it didn't work out...

Similar to your other reply - I could be wrong cos I'm old and this stuff is like 20 years back now....(scary when we're talking about VR!) but my recollection of it is the other way around....

I think Duff's version was that Izzy wanted to do it like a fun hobby project - write 8 songs add a bunch of covers and hit the road immediately and tour it - Izzy wasn't as interested as the others in building it into a supergroup big deal.
Izzy thought he and duff split the vocal duties and they just do a season of it kinda thing. But Duff was more like "if we do this we have to do it the right way" cos he realised what a big deal it was to get them all back together.

Anyway they hung out and wrote for a while, but when the decision was made to bring in a frontman Izzy figured that would lead to more rockstar drama rather than fun and he took off. Slash said it was because Izzy was still traumatised by Axl but he might have just been being a smartass.

Curiously they also said that Dave was still around when they were writing with Izzy, and he was a bit like "shall I make a discreet exit then" but that  they told him to hang out and we'll just jam with 3 guitarists. Slash said people don't understand his relationship with Izzy: Izzy's always the guy who is half around, he's never exactly in or out. He'll just be there sometimes. 16

That's how it happened. I remember reading an interview with Dave when he was unsure what to do when he came to rehearsal and Izzy was there. Duff had told him to wait and see, anticipating that it would be very likely that Izzy wouldn't stay...

Izzy just wanted to him and Duff to handle the vocals and bailed when Slash wanted a proper frontman...

It's a shame that he also never released the solo album he did with Slash & Duff on it (around the time of On Down The Road). The same with Duff's 2014/2015 solo album where Duff was super happy to be writing and recording with Izzy. There has to be tons of great material buried somewhere...

As far as Izzy leaving his band while going out for cigarettes. That was the Ju Ju Hounds yes. If I remember correctly they still had a gig of their tour left and were also somewhat in the middle of recording JuJu Hounds 2.
