Sadly, the reality isn't very funny. You can go on believing whatever you want to believe. Let me know when you put the crack pipe down and accept reality. No video, no promotion, no anything could have saved this flop. The product just isn't that good even if you like it.
As for your Gilmour comment, there's a lot of truth to that. I'm glad you are starting to figure it out. Nobody is interested in his solo efforts (though I'm not interested in his non-solo efforts either). There are a lot of similarities there to the GnR situation. Keep looking into that and you'll see the light.

no...ID, you should not....to each his own Buzz. Your arrogance is quite a bit oppressive at this point and while you may have your minions on this board, your opinion to me still reeks of overall bitterness and disdain for the breakup of the old band. You, admittedly so on multiple occasions, have talked about how much the 87-93 band meant to you. It meant alot to me as well, but I find your constant degradation of the album to be way too heavy handed and personal to actually take the majority of your posts as any thing more than another semi intelligent blogger/internet geek. Your OPINION is still just that when it comes to judging the quality of the album and when it comes to YOUR definition of success. The masses don't always have it right my friend.
The masses have it beyond right here. And I'm not comparing Guns N' Roses to anything other than Guns N' Roses. The album is a failure in every way other than it paid off Axl's debt. Congrats Axl - you killed your band for the allmighty dollar. Who's the sellout now?
This has nothing to do with my love of the old band. TWAT is in my top 5 of GnR songs and is possible #1 - in fact, get Finck off of it and it probably is #1, so don't tell me I'm biased. It is what it is, and I am captain obvious. I apologize if that doesn't fit your agenda, but it doesn't change what it is. You think this album is getting toasted here...the little bit of talk that goes on at non GnR sites that I've seen has been far more damning than ANYTHING I've said.
The album is terrible. The songs aren't good, the mixing is terrible, the production sucks, the booklet sucks, it sold the majority of it's copies in the first week then dropped off the face of the earth, both singles flopped, no tour was done, no promotion was done, there's another new guitarist...I can keep going if you'd like. Your optimisim, while refreshing, is foolish. A crack whore wouldn't even be fucked up enough to try to defend this album as any sort of a success.
So you can call me biased if you'd like. That doen't make it true. I call it for what it is. Russ loves the album, yet sees things much like I do on every other point. Is he biased?

I didn't like Spoonman either...those are the only 2 I heard and I never bothered to check out anything else after that. Audioslave has some cool songs.

I love the album and I personally view it as a complete and total failure.
Enough said. You don't have to like that I'm right MisterID, but you should at least accept it.

I hate Soundgarden, but mostly because the horrible BHS guitar solo that doesn't fit the song in any way. Cornell has a great voice. I couldn't get past the music.

Who said the product was shitty? Isn't that a matter of opinion?
You're a fan of the old lineup, isn't that fair to say? You like ONE song from the new lineup, so I'd hardly consider you a fan of "new" GNR.
A lot of people said it's shitty. It is their opinion that it is a shitty product. That doesn't make them less of a GnR fan.
By liking ONE song, I'm ahead of a lot of people.

buzzsaw wrote:Why do you think BB didn't market it? Because they wanted to just give Axl money for nothing? I'm going to say no. I'll take answer b: they knew it wasn't going to sell once they heard the whole thing as well. They cut their losses.
How long was CD (the single) on the Top 100? Not the rock list, I'm talking the real Top 100. I bet never is the answer, if not, it was a very, very, very short time. How many albums do you think an Axl/Slash GnR album would have sold? That's the standard I'm holding it to. If you're going to be GnR, then you have to be GnR and accept the expectations that go with that. You can't just take the sales that go with the name and not take the expectations. You cannot have it both ways.
If by slow building you mean that 20 years from now people might say it wasn't as bad as everyone though it was at the time, then I might agree with you. If by slow building you mean the album will come back to the top 10 again, you're nuts.
Awwwww, look at Buzz being the authority on GNR... Your opinion doesn't matter, which is sad because you are an intelligent guy, but you're so jaded your logic regarding this band is completely warped, where everything is geared at this being a failure no matter what. You reach and reach and twist everything in a negative light. Which is your thing, so whatever. Its just no one can really ever have a real debate with you. Which sucks because you are a good poster outside this topic.
And as I read your response it finally hit me who you are...
Buzz, you are the Rush Limbaugh of the GNR world.
My opinion doesn't matter? Interesting, considering my opinion turns out to be right quite often. Nobody can have a real debate with me because they can't win. THAT is what's sad. You can claim all the successes you want, but when it comes to bring up the actual facts of the situation, they are going to be on my side. It's not negative, it's real. It never has been negative, it's always been real.
My posts on this topic are no different than my other posts on other topics. I look at everything from a reality point of view. I always have, I always will. The difference is that YOU are so biased about this subject that you refuse to see the reality that is so obviously sitting right in front of you. That is a you problem, not a me problem.

I downloaded the demos but haven't bought the album. I did buy TWAT for Rock Band, so in my opinion I bought the only song worth paying for on the album (even if it wasn't buying the actual song). TWAT is the only one on my MP3 player, the rest have been deleted. I tried it out and decided it wasn't worth more than $5 (if that), so I'll wait until it hits the bargain bin before buying it.
