Watched The Conjuring (3): The Devil Made me Do it.
Not as good to me as Conjuring 2 was which was one of my favourite horrors (even though it's new school not old)...but still watchable....but kinda plays more like a conjuring tv show would....awesome but lacking that epic vibe of the first couple....i miss James Wan behind the wheel on them....
#512 Re: The Sunset Strip » Ghostbusters: Afterlife » 250 weeks ago
Yeah there's a handful of things like that where it's kinda amazing that they didn't at least try stuff and butcher it more...
Like a combination of bob gale's blocking rights and michael J fox's illness made BTTF not continue.
But when you think Indy 5 is happening with a 79 year old Harrison, or how many Terminator sequels we had, or even stuff like AvP - it's kinda strange that Ghostbusters and Back to the Future are relatively clean still....
Another one is Masters of the Universe....I know they rebooted the cartoon now and in 2002...and that they fucked the original movie...but when you think how big a deal the 80s cartoon was to kids of my generation....and how easy CGI is now....it's sort of bizzare that they never made a proper version of it.

I like what slash has done with it.
Will be excited to hear it live with Axl.
My only thing is that hardschool was one of the more generic demos and in my mind nowhere near as songs like State of Grace or Perhaps etc.
But I'll take it.

Performance royalties are a thing in the usa, collected by BMI, ASCAP, and SESAC.

You don't have to pay artists to play cover songs at a concert. You only have to pay if you release them like on CD or digital music.
In Australia the venue pays an annual license fee to cover the songwriters of all music played in the venue - every artist submits a setlist and it's split between them at the end of the year. The cost to a big venue like a stadium is proportionally more than a small venue like a bar.
End result, Axl wouldn't have to pay pitman if he plays silkworms, but it would cause pitman to get paid (from the performing rights cut taken from the venue)
Thus if you had the right level of spite, you might withhold a song just to stop that happening.
Not saying Axl does this...but if he's as much of an asshole as I can be in the right mood then it's at least a possibility.

Yeah it's not like they can't...
But it makes me wonder...is Axl going to pick silkworms as the next single and send Pitman a few extra bucks? Maybe he doesn't mind I dunno....but i notice there's been no dust and bones for many a year and it's easier to sing than most of the songs...

I think it's one of Axl's most beautiful songs.
I see what you mean about it being out of place on the record, it's more of a UYI track, I would have been interested to hear it recorded around NR era.
Like i said about TWAT too - it would be interesting to hear a slash composition for the solo part - not just Slash covering the existing solo with improv like we mostly get live these days - but a 1990s Slash doing a fresh take to elevate the song....that would have been interesting.
That said it's a beautiful song.
The dance version with the scream vocals is kinda different but amazing vocally too. I love it in a different way. I hope one day the vault opens and there's more gems like this one - the fact we almost never heard that makes me think Axl could always have other throw away stuff that O love somewhere.

Always found this song incredibly inspirational.
I know the bucket solo is one that people love but I always felt this song needed more of an old school slash solo in the middle or something.
I appreciate how the quotes add together to tell a story, but at the same time for casual listeners I don't think they follow it and it just sounds like a lot of samples...in away I would have liked to hear this song with a whole different middle section.
I remember there's a live version where Axl sang a different high part in the last verse too which is one of those things where you hear it once and you want it ever after too.
All those 'notes' aside - this is actually a masterful song overall.

Yeah that's the other element....
It's like take your 4 albums....
then remove songs you don't want to play because of beef with a co-writer (eg Pitman/Izzy etc), then remove songs that are punishing to vocally perform too often (eg Twat screams), then remove songs where there is controversy (Get In The Ring, One in a Million), then maybe remove songs where you may have moved on from those emotions (Shotgun Blues), then limit how many times you want to ask Slash to cover Robin songs (maybe just 3 this setlist) then limit how many agressive songs you want in a row....(everyone take a step back)...then limit how many ballads should go together before it gets too samey....then consider the list of songs that the audience will require to be present and which ones of those already violate the above rules....then find a way to make that new for 30 years...
Not saying it can't be done...but I can see why they find it hard.
I think some of the fun of the covers for them is not only the change but also that they are reasonably critically free....like if Axl writes a new song we have to ask how this compares to AFD and if it's about Erin or Slash or whatever....but if he sings Sailing it just sounds cool
#520 Re: Guns N' Roses » Bring it Back Home, Too Much Too Fast and Hell House demos. » 251 weeks ago
I remember kinda liking that Too Much song...had a catchy old time feel to it that worked with Axl's voice...much like Since I don't have you does.
