By the rediculousness of pretty much everything involved with post 1995 GnR.  Forced isn't maybe the right word, but being completely honest requires some "negativity" about the situations that continue to unfold even after CD finally came out.

I applaud people like russ that can support CD, but also see the reality of the situation.  I think he sees both sides.  As a result, I have a lot of respect for what he says even when it doesn't necessarily agree with what I feel.  i think a lot of insight can be gained through people like russ.

I've stayed out of this conversation (and most others) for the most part, so don't make this about me.  Nobody has to look for something to complain about...most of the craziest CD era fanatics have complained about things.

sorry to pick on you, buzzsaw. i'm just sick of people complaining all the time. you guys have no idea what you're talking about.

I beg to differ.  See the post in this thread from russ - one of the people that absolutely loves CD.

The fact that Slash, Izzy, and Duff have a discography in that time period separates them from Tommy and Axl.  Really, whether you like the music or not, that's all it takes.

I looked for one on ebay awhile ago - there are fakes of all the albums - especially vinyl.

Axl's whole career has been about wanting it both ways...not sure why you'd expect that to change now.

Matchbox 20 was actually pretty big before Smooth.  Their first album is probably their best.  Smooth took them to a new level, but I'd bet their first album outsold CD, even when considering the different eras.

I think it's absolutely hilarious, and shows how hypocritcal some of these Slashites are, to coin Tommy's career as ZERO before GN'R (late 90's), when in fact GNR's former members were about 5 years off the freakin' radar too. Slash, Duff & Izzy were has beens, and to call them 'active' musicians, Tommy would be one too. Axl was the only guy even getting the occasional article, and that's only because the brand name Guns N' Roses still meant 'music headlines' back then.

Look up Slash articles.  I bet you find quite a few of them from 1995 - 2003.  In fact, I'm willing to bet there were far more Slash articles than there were Axl articles over that time period.

Remember, Slash is a media whore - he didn't disappear and suddenly emerge as one.  Axl said he's been spewing the same crap to the media for over 10 years, and we all know Axl wouldn't lie.  It is what it is.  If you think Slash disappeared during that timeframe, you obviously weren't looking very closely.

I had honestly never heard of the replacements until tommy joined gnr...i still havent listened to an album by them

tbh i thought the replacements were the dude who did the theme song for freinds 16 anyway its my understanding that aside from the midwest USA punk scene that they didnt have much of a following

I lived in the Midwest and never heard of them.  I don't think they had much of a following, period.  It's all good that they influenced some bands, but to me, that's like honoring whoever influenced disco.  I would think that whoever influenced whatever modern rock is should be shot, not honored*.
