I think some of the problem also is that despite those errors he's actually trying to be too faithful to them in a way....
It's like Axl trying to sing like scott would, I guess out of respect for the dead? whereas what we always wanted to hear was Axl sing them the way Axl would.
Like I want Angry 2006 Axl to get screamy in them or something...and make it his own the way GNR LALD isn't the wings version....the fun bit of GNR covers was how they made the songs GNR...

Yeah it makes me sad.
Like I always wanted to hear the GNR guys do the VR/solo songs and how it would improve them.
But my brain needed 2006 Axl (if not 1993 Axl lol) turns out by 2017 that VR is the better band

The clip from soundcheck was 14 seconds....I reserve judgement until we get a full performance.

Aside from my hope for a reinvigorated Axl....
If it goes the normal way you'd expect a couple of 'normal' shows to ease back into it anxiety wise.....then there will be a few shows where they start mixing it up a bit and having fun...probably debuting a new song or two - either original - or if they're not up to that then some new covers - before it eventually settles into a pattern and becomes a default setlist for the rest of the tour.
I hope it's some of those leaks we got though. I wanna hear like a "State of Grace" so badly.

I still think a guitar based version of silkworms could be cool. Would give it a zep vibe.
Like if you had slash doing that keys riff on guitar with a kinda a "whole lotta love" feel to it....and Axl in angry mode....
Not really into the techno version but I sorta hear a concept that would rock up well in there. Mind you unlikely it will ever happen now pitman has been banished to the outer darkness.

This is one of the songs I think improved.
I like that we got a bucket solo added (and some bumble touches) but we still got to keep the weird Robin solo too.
My only gripe with it is when Axl did it live at Rock Am Ring in 2006 he delivered the last half of the song with a ton of passion and venom in the rasp....basically kinda screamed it more....and although he does the same tune on the record...it feels restrained to me now....
That and i never liked the opening acoustic guitar much...but overall this is a great song.....when it gets rocking it really rocks...especially when Axl was channeling the anger that night.

I think any change is good.
When you think the CD era songs are the "new" material and we've been hearing most of them for 21 years now, and it's even 12 years in the case of "rare" stuff like "If the World" since it's live debut.
Basically changing up the list is good.
That said...we have to be realistic...the band has an Acoustic ep, 2 cover EPs and 4 records to choose from.
There's only so different shows are going to get from each other really.

Going by the theory in the movie Melancholia - people who are frequently distressed tend to handle a crisis better than people who are normally happy.
Whole world has been in crisis.....sooooo....Axl will come back revitalised like never before.
A new era will finally dawn.

Oh I see what you're saying.
It's a bit like with the horrors of the 27 club - as they say of the war deaths "age shall not weary them" etc.
We never got to see James Dean overweight, with a crook knee and post rehab #88 doing a charity gig well after his nap time.
So I mean, yeah UYI Axl for all the insanity of that tour was probably a top 5 frontman of all time.
It's a rough game to play that one though, I mean Quentin Tarrintino is only going to make one more movie for the same reasons, I feel we'd loose so much as a society if everyone chucked in the towel just to maintain a possible peak moment.
Like there's been a lot of Axl stuff I've really enjoyed over the years to go with the embarrassing stuff.
But it is frustrating too...like you watch stuff like Sailing in 2006 and realise the potential that didn't seem to get used.

I dunno...I maintain 2006 Axl still had a charismatic vibe.
Like he looked older, but in a kinda tasteful classic rock way....the braids weren't for everyone but I thought in this era he kinda rocked them.
The voice was a long way from prime yet he was doing amazing screams that were bringing the house down and the odd moment of sheer brillance.
The only problem was people didn't really care for the replacement band, and that it was a classic hits tour (handful of CD songs excepted).
I think the NITL reunion done in 2006 (which nearly happened what with the slash visit earlier) would have been a mind-blowing comback....or hell...even the CD stuff dropped in 2006 not 2008 and then followed up with a more material would have gone better.
I mean nothing will be like UYI tour....but I think 2006 Axl had a bit of petrol in the tank.
